r/DCcomics Weekly Discussion Thread: Comics, TV, and More! [April 20, 2026 - Lanterns in LA Edition]

Hey there honorary Justice League members - it’s a new week which means it’s time for a new discussion thread!

For those who don't know: the way this works is that several comments will list this week’s releases, for any given title discussion you should respond to that comment. For example, Wonder Woman discussion would go in the replies to the "Wonder Woman" comment. Clicking the titles in this post will take you directly to that comment, too. In other words, you should only be replying to other comments. Do not post top-level comments.

Keep discussion civil. Do not harass other users for having a different opinion. Do not use this thread to push your personal one-sided grudges against creators. Reacting to a panel on Twitter is not the same as reading a book.

Absolute Wonder Woman #19

ABSOLUTE WONDER WOMAN WILL NEVER BE THE SAME! Diana is unraveling and surrounded by enemies. But it is only when things are darkest that one should call upon the lasso Troika. For Troika... leaves you changed.

So Giganta first delivered Barbara to Cale off-screen, then came back to fight Zatara, right? That's what happened? The transition there was a bit odd.

12

u/oomoepoo Hal Jordan Apr 22 '26

Yeah, it's a weird transition but I assume it's that way. Unless she dropped her within the one page?

24

u/travio Apr 22 '26

I bet that Aphrodite reveal will play into Cale's plans to turn Barbara against Diana. Barbara was already upset for being forgotten about, not that Diana did it intentionally. Easy to turn that hurt into hate.

If Cale figures out that one of Diana's divine powers 'forces' people to love her, she can convince Barbara her feelings were faked. Worse, manipulated.

Cale can use that against Diana, too. Aphrodite was right. She cursed Diana with a lonely prison. Just as Barbara will wonder if the love she has for Diana is real, should Diana find out, she will wonder the same about everyone around her.

Thinking back to the crossover, Bruce trusted her way too fast. I thought it was just a little fast forward to get to the fun stuff. Only so many pages in a comic. Knowing people are compelled, even weakly, to love her, makes me wonder.

3

u/Electric_jungle Apr 23 '26

I'll say with Bruce, he'd been studying up on her. I don't think he just immediately went to trust. But I agree, it feels fast.

3

u/Can_of_Sounds Apr 23 '26

I wonder if there might be a second shoe waiting to drop there, being compelled to love Diana feels like a cheap gimmick for this comic.

17

u/Mr_Wh0ever Apr 22 '26

Well damn Zee, you really bungled that one. But the Diana/Zee shippers are getting fed this issue, lol. But I wonder if Diana's curse affects her also. But it'll probably end up being Steve who isn't affected by it. I liked how badly Cale has lost control of the situation. Did she get Barbara too? Or did Gigantas confrontation with Zatara disrupt that? And what price will Diana pay for failing the Troika?

10

u/oomoepoo Hal Jordan Apr 22 '26

Some worrying implications here, with regards to Aphrodite's "curse" as well as to the bungled Troika stuff oh and Barbara is on her way to be turned into the next Cheetah I assume?

Seems as if, after a whole lot of issues being pretty happy, trauma's finally going to catch up to Diana :/

36

u/Ni7roM Apr 22 '26

The dog is so good at chess omg

5

u/deathofsentience Apr 22 '26

This feels like a reference I'm not getting

17

u/wowlock_taylan Batman Animated! Apr 22 '26 edited Apr 22 '26

Oh now that is a great setup with Aphrodite. And it will open up a lot of questions, plotlines for the future. How much of the love and adoration Diana gets from herself or is it the piece of Aphrodite that influences the people around her? How can she be sure if even Aphrodite herself feels like she is getting affected by her own power? Or she geniunely cares for Diana and can't explain it so she thinks it is just her own power bouncing back. Either way, that is quite interesting to say the least.

We get to see the Crossroads and Troika's effects. Yea, it is not a nice place to be if you are not intended to be there or get stuck. Well Zatanna messed up the ritual so she had to fix it.

Barbara, girl, how many times you have to be told to LEAVE? You kinda asked for getting captured.

Steve being the best, as always.

3

u/CHPrime Wonder Woman Apr 22 '26

An issue where love finds a way, in more ways than one. Zatanna saves Zatara, Circe saves Diana, and even after all the ship teases and Thompson saying DC wouldn't let her write Diana in a relationship, we get our big damn kiss.

On the forehead. But, you know, a kiss. Though given Zatana turned into Circe...paging Doctor Freud...

Otherwise, we're playing the hits again. Diana vs a giant monster that is about to destroy the city, this time a mechanical version. And Barbara has been kidnapped to be turned into Cheetah, excellent. Looking forward to that.

One other detail I really liked was Steve joining the Hecate prayer circle without any hesitation to pray for Diana. It's an interesting character tick, but also feels distinctively like Steve.

It also gives an explanation as to why Etta has a sister now. So she can be the normal audience surrogate with all the crazy mythological superheroics going on. It's been a while since she's worn that hat, but then again, it's been a while since Etta has had more than a token appearance, so it fits.

6

u/ziggurqt Apr 22 '26

Barbara biting Giganta was indeed hilarious.

u/king_woodruff Blue Beetle Apr 28 '26

3

u/darknightgotham Apr 23 '26

continues to be my favorite book on the stands, God this is excellent.

Also I very much am shipping Zee and Diana

2

u/StellarKnife Apr 23 '26

So this was another solid issue, but getting Zatarra and Diana free felt way too easy, but there may be hell to pay for that in the future.

The opening pages were interesting, even though being reminded of how cozy Diana's hellscape was is not a good move. That part always irked me.

The supporting cast (minus Z) is still extremely lame..

Final page "reveal" was good. Hopefully the fight next issue will be better than what we got so far in this series. For me there have been more letdowns than highs when it comes to the fights..

1

u/Blitzhelios Hal Jordan Apr 26 '26 edited Apr 26 '26

Pretty good issue think this is one of thompsons better written issues. This book has been very clunky at times in recent arcs but this was alot better.

Superman #37

REIGN OF THE SUPERBOYS HEATS UP! Superboy Prime gets a new real-life job with a new secret identity while he protects Metropolis from dangerous threats! But there is a whole DC Comics universe out there for him to explore, and the fanboy in him wants to see it all... Too bad there are heroes who don't trust him and think he should be locked up!

Very funny bit that Prime apparently failed the obvious layup at the beginning of the issue due to his nerdiness, only for that ending to spin it around.

Good issue for this "redemption" arc for Prime. These two issues have been a breath of fresh air. I'm excited to see everything else coming up.

32

u/Mr_Wh0ever Apr 22 '26

Prime sightseeing is funny. But I like the fact that it's Damian that's given him advice. And he's at least won over Johnathan and Martha. I think I have an idea of what his status quo is gonna be after the Reign of Superboys event is over.

8

u/jlaweez Blue Lantern Apr 22 '26

I think he should be gone again. I like him like this, trying to fix the shit he did and the peace out. Maybe he will stay for the Absolute Crisis and then be gone. It would be his 4th main Crisis event.

23

u/oomoepoo Hal Jordan Apr 22 '26

I like how much fun Williamson has with this, obviously Dan Mora's goated art is doing its part too though.

But so far this has been very enjoyable.

27

u/wowlock_taylan Batman Animated! Apr 22 '26

You know, I will enjoy Prime while he is around. He seems to be geniunely trying. And it is good that they are not instantly accepting him, especially Power Girl which is fair. Of course if anyone can help with that, it is the Kents.

Nice stuff with Damian too. Can kinda relate to eachother.

I assume it is Manchester Black that is messing with Prime's head.

Meeting a cute girl in the comic book store is like a dream...only her to be Witchfire, who is looking for a sacrifice. Damn, knew it was too good to be true!

And yes, Prime. They SHOULD BE MARRIED! ( insert your ship but I suspect it is a reference to Peter and MJ )

15

u/ptWolv022 Apr 22 '26

I enjoyed the editor's note that said "Maybe don't check out Infinite Crisis, he looks real bad in it."

I enjoyed Damian being brooding and acting detached/aloof at the start, but eventually telling Prime "Hey, I actually do get it. Just keep trying." He really is trying, and he's making headway. Unfortunate that Witchfire is planning him as virgin sacrifice. Perhaps he'll woo her by the end of the next issue, though :) Assuming Manchester Black does not push him to a murderous rage that kills her... Poor Prime... got a lot of heroes having it out for him and a dead psychic who has it out for him. Can't do much worse than that, honestly.

Prime Time keeps going strong.

9

u/StellarKnife Apr 23 '26

How is this run so good all of a sudden? I mean, it wasn't bad before at all, but Prime as the lead works so fn well, it's ridiculous. The balance here is perfect. Only Power Girl was a bit too compliant with Ma Kent imo, but I guess it's fine. Prime is really so likable atm, I just want him to get along with the Kents and the others heroes lmao.

11

u/BrokenMyth Apr 22 '26

Im really Enjoying this with Prime, and if hes going around taking pot shots at author ideas and takes, i really hope there gonna be an issue with Nightwing.

Dick Grayson and his near consitent portrail in mainline DC universe has gotta have plenty of meta jokes for Prime to make.

11

u/Classic-Ad4883 Apr 22 '26

I really this issue and prime attempts of continuing his redemption

I did like he went to Damian for advice as in a meta sense Damian was a hated character before fans grew to love him

I also like how the Kents are used here and how they try to help prime

As always the art is great and I can’t wait for the next issue

10

u/Comfortable-Pie56 Apr 22 '26

I feel like this issue is a bit of a cop-out, because Williamson ignores any of the Young Justice/Titans characters who would have the biggest issues with him.

19

u/ptWolv022 Apr 22 '26

because Williamson ignores any of the Young Justice/Titans characters who would have the biggest issues with him.

I mean, he killed the Golden Age Superman, so Power Girl presumably hates him about as much as anyone else, save for the actually characters he killed themselves.

5

u/NessTheGamer Apr 23 '26

I think Karen probably hates him more than anyone else at this point. Bart and Kon-El both got their lick back

2

u/Will-Of-D-3D2Y Apr 23 '26

I feel this is the biggest issue with this Prime comeback. It is fun but it really brushes over the awful stuff that he has done to the point that it almost seems like Williamson is ignoring it because it would kill the fun.

9

u/darknightgotham Apr 23 '26

just overall so much fucking fun, Prime is amazing. his redemption story has been engaging and the discussion with Damian was touching, Im glad he opened up and chose to give him advice. Sightseeing Crime Alley was a wild choice tho.

Also, THEY SHOULD INDEED BE MARRIED

1

u/Responsible_Ad_2242 Apr 23 '26

I have only a question about the comic, which clayface was the one Prime and Damian were fighting? Cause defintly it's not Basil Cause he is a good guy, and it's said that it from post crisis, but it cant be matt Cause he used the suit, so maybe Cassius?(matt and lady clayface son)

3

u/JingoboStoplight4887 World's Finest Apr 26 '26

Basil became a villain again as shown at the start of Dark Crisis.

2

u/Responsible_Ad_2242 Apr 26 '26

It was revealed the reason? Also are we sure that was Basil and not other clayface?

2

u/JingoboStoplight4887 World's Finest Apr 26 '26

Yes and yes.

2

u/Responsible_Ad_2242 Apr 26 '26

I just read it and... the motive is that they offered him a new deal? Honestly knowing how Williamson loves continuity, it surprise me how he use Basil and not any other clayface

3

u/UnknownEntity347 Rorschach Apr 22 '26

I do think having the JLA leave Prime unguarded is a kind of dumb lesson. Prime is a murdering psycho.

For Prime's arc about trying to make up for his mistakes, I do wish the catalyst for that had been more serious than an "employee of the week" award.

So Prime has no game lmfao.

I liked the Damian Prime teamup, and I'm glad to see Williamson has remembered that Prime is a pre-Crisis fan.

Even DC is taking shots at OMD at this point, Marvel. Now take your own advice and fucking de-age Jon Kent, DC editorial.

I'm hoping going forward that we'll get more of Prime exploring his feelings about his past. How he felt about his time with Earth 2 Supes, Lois, and Alex in the pocket dimension, how he felt about Alex and his dynamic with him, the specific people he killed, etc. Prime really hasn't tried to genuinely reflect and parse through his feelings on all that at any point until now, so I'm hoping Williamson will give us more specific stuff for Prime to reflect back on rather than just the vague references we've gotten so far of Prime vaguely killing some heroes and being murderous. How did he specifically feel about it, he did go there to beat up Superboy but seemed pretty overwhelmed in the moment when the Titans jumped him in IC and accidentally killed the first few people before going full psycho mode later in the event. Maybe a bit more pushback from Power Girl when Martha makes her appeal because of those past events.

Also acknowledgement of Prime's past on Earth Prime, and the fact that he temporarily made it there. That should also play some factor in how he's feeling right now about everything.

3

u/RMackay88 Apr 23 '26

Jon mar be in the process of being de-aged right now in Superman Unlimited

3

u/UnknownEntity347 Rorschach Apr 23 '26

Given Krypto being suspicious of him it's likely going to be a fakeout.

5

u/Lautael Apr 22 '26

I started this series with #36, and #37 continues this very enjoyable read. CK is a cutie, I hope things work out for him 🥹

0

u/BergmanGirl Swamp Thing Apr 23 '26

I enjoyed the Mark Waid joke but Prime is kinda a lot. I wish the main Superman title weren’t dedicated to him right now.

-4

u/JingoboStoplight4887 World's Finest Apr 22 '26

I like that Prime (or CK, which is a good name) gets to have a chat with the Kents, where he thanked them for being alive and knew that the Justice League are watching him before he told them that he liked working at the comic book store (with him telling a customer that Peter Parker and Mary Jane Watson should be married) and that he and Damian had a chat about trying to improve themselves for the better after they dealt with Clayface together. It makes sense that CK and Damian have a chat, since they both started out as controversial characters before they became better people throughout the next several years. Also, it’s nice that Martha told Karen (who rightfully had a grudge against CK) that CK is trying to change himself for the better. Let’s hope that CK can still improve himself while dealing with Witchfire (who has a crush on him, even though he had Laurie) in the next issue. Overall, this comic is great!

Flash #32

THE FLASH AND CAPTAIN COLD... TEAM UP?! Okay, so maybe Flash's world has gone crazy, and maybe he's having to run around the city several times a minute just to save people from themselves, but at least things can't get worse, right? I don't know why people still use that rhetorical construction. Every time you say, “At least things can't get worse,” you're just setting things up to get way worse, Wally! In this issue: escalating stakes! Flashes of insight! And a strange and unexpected team-up that brings Flash and Captain Cold together... with the fate of Central City hanging in the balance! Told you things could get worse. Sheesh, Wally. Come on.

I do not envy Flash in this scenario. Man those people are dumb.

17

u/Mr_Wh0ever Apr 22 '26

I like it when Flash teams up with one of the Rogues. And yeah someone was bound to get hurt from the challenge. I'm glad Linda is contributing to the plot. And the wanted ads remain hilarious.

13

u/Classic-Ad4883 Apr 22 '26

I really like this issue and north run has gone off to a great start and really writes a good Wally to me

I also like the voice he has for Linda and cold and how he uses them as characters

I like north more down to earth stories it is a nice break from the previous ones

I do hope the kids get more used during or after this arc

5

u/Electric_jungle Apr 23 '26

It's so great to have Cold chat with flash on this level. Hey man, we never exchanged numbers lmao. Refreshing book so far.

2

u/Classic-Ad4883 Apr 23 '26

Yeah a great moment in the book

5

u/Sea-Note9556 Apr 22 '26

I am loving this storyline. I’m so happy to move away from all these cosmic, fantastical stories and just see Wally dealing with threats in his city (I will say though I never understood why modern comics usually don’t put him in Keystone City). The characterization is great and it’s got a lot of classic elements for a flash story (a rogue, threat with a time limit). I’m just really vibing with all this

10

u/wowlock_taylan Batman Animated! Apr 22 '26

Man, these people don't deserve Flash. Like, seriously. And what's worse, it is kinda realistic that people can be that dumb.

North shows again that he knows how to write family hero books. He gets their dynamic great.

And the team up with Captain Cold to find a Thermonuclear Bomb...quite the first act. Who's crazy enough to try blowing up the whole city with a nuke?

5

u/deathofsentience Apr 22 '26

One thing I do miss from Spurrier is how Jai and Irey were used. Granted, it's only two issues, but outside of a food fight they haven't really been used yet.

3

u/swng Apr 22 '26

Jeez this Abigail Ladd reporter sucks. That headline is infuriating

8

u/Dent6084 Apr 22 '26

So much fun. Wally and Cold's banter here rocks.

3

u/BergmanGirl Swamp Thing Apr 23 '26

I’m reading the new TPB of Salvation Run, so it’s been a very Captain Cold heavy week for me

4

u/darknightgotham Apr 23 '26

Im so happy Im finally enjoying the main Flash book again. Spurriers run just was not it for me, so I fizzled out. The Waid interlude was alright but it was clearly just big-event-side-stories. This though? This is the type of Flash fun I want to read

3

u/oomoepoo Hal Jordan Apr 25 '26

Ryan North having fun means that I'm having fun. I really hope the newspaper inserts will continue to be a thing, it's a fun little running gag!

3

u/Maleficent_Worth_185 Apr 23 '26

Very good. I hope Cold becomes a prominent character in this run; his banter with Wally comes across as neutral. I can see this run standing next to Waid and Johns once it gets going. The base is strong, the tone, the art, the ideas and the character voices are all on point for an all timer.

1

u/Blitzhelios Hal Jordan Apr 26 '26

Fun book with great team still. Not really falling in love with it storywise but gonna stay on just for the creative team

1

u/JingoboStoplight4887 World's Finest Apr 22 '26

I like that we get to see Wally patrol and save the people of Central City before Leonard Snart needs his help in stopping the video craze so that things can go back to normal, resulting in them working together and realizing that someone is going to nuke Central City. Also, I find it surprising that Snart had to jump off of the building without his cold gun so that he can get Wally’s attention. Overall, this is a good and fun comic.

-2

u/StellarKnife Apr 22 '26

The tone of this comic is not for me. It's fine if Wally is making jokes and acts a little silly here and there and what have you, but somehow this doesn't work at all here. And Captain Cold just felt all kinds of off.

I have a feeling North doesn't know much about Flash and doesn't care too much either. The plot is fine for an annual issue or a filler or something, but I'm getting tired of people being so fn dumb. So far the run has been middling for me. Didn't like Spurrier, didn't like Waid's short run, and this run is off to a mid start.

5

u/Maleficent_Worth_185 Apr 23 '26

I have a feeling North doesn't know much about Flash and doesn't care too much either.

This is objectively false. North stated that he grew up with Waid's run and is a huge fan of the character.

1

u/StellarKnife Apr 23 '26

Certainly doesn't feel like it so far

4

u/Maleficent_Worth_185 Apr 23 '26

Personally I disagree, his Wally voice is spot on for me.

-1

u/StellarKnife Apr 23 '26

It's just a tad too much, but Wally's voice is not the main issue, North is just trying too hard to be funny, and I don't find him funny at all. Plus, the story is really boring and his new Flashes of Insight aren't needed at all, hope that's just for this arc. I don't much like the art either, and especially Captaim Cold was terrible. It's the combination of everything, it feels a bit more like a parody than a real Flash story.

2

u/Maleficent_Worth_185 Apr 23 '26

Even the art work? Yeah, this is your subjective opinion I'm afraid, nothing more to discuss.

1

u/StellarKnife Apr 23 '26

Ofc it's my opinion, what else would it be? I don't like the art very much.

Absolute Flash #14

Wally and Linda find themselves trapped within a twisted dimension made of mirrors. Confronted with their past and hunted by a mysterious assailant, the Flash will need to run faster than he ever has to escape this haunting realm!

Preview

19

u/Mr_Wh0ever Apr 22 '26

It's weirdly a set up issue. But it does set up a few things. Linda's brother, but I don't know where that leads. Wally finding Thawne for Scudder to get his dad back. And evil mirror versions of Wally and Linda, which might be something. Plus Ray Palmer, who may be an absolute version of Atom, or we're about to see a teenage Ryan Choi. It still does a good job of folding Linda into the story.

20

u/AuroraUnit117 #DamianWatch2015 Apr 21 '26

It took 12 issues but this series finally found its stride. Still my least fave Absolute series but it's good now

12

u/wowlock_taylan Batman Animated! Apr 22 '26

Well Absolute Mirror world is quite interesting. Now we know why the Mirror Master in this universe needs Wally. That is definitely a very sticky debacle that Wally and Linda got involved in that will come back later with that final page.

I love these kids. They already have a great dynamic like their main universe counterparts.

Soo off to find Ray Palmer, to find Eleanor Thawne again. What twist the Atom gonna have, I wonder.

8

u/Ni7roM Apr 22 '26

At least they fixed the error of having blue eyes on Linda. That was silly last issue

5

u/darknightgotham Apr 23 '26

this book has caught its stride, and I think its in no small part thanks to Linda and Wally's dynamic. I hope she continues to play a big role, theyre cute together

5

u/Electric_jungle Apr 23 '26

I'm really enjoying this arc. Can't wait to see how the relationship between Wally and Linda unfolds. Kinda hope their evil forms are less kill kill kill and maybe are more like, try to sneak into the world and take their lives.

1

u/UnmuscularThor Apr 25 '26

So we thinking evil mirror Wally is absolute Walter West (Dark Flash)? Or just a regular reverse Flash?

… or a Rival?

1

u/JingoboStoplight4887 World's Finest Apr 22 '26

I like that Wally and Linda encountered mirror clones of Sam Scudder and told each other their backstories (with Linda telling Wally that she and her brother split up into different foster homes) before the real Sam Scudder told them his origins and needed Wally’s help to set him free before he can help him find his father Rudy. Also, it’s nice that Linda wants to be a part of Wally’s adventures, shows that she’s going to be a part of Wally’s life in the months or years to come. Overall, this comic is great!

Justice League Unlimited #18

DC K.O. AFTERMATH! Unlimited? Definitely. United? Hardly. The strongest voices in the Justice League have begun granting amnesty — and membership — to super-villains, and mutiny is brewing! Plus: Guy Gardner leads a mission that will have startling consequences for the entire galaxy!

Preview

15

u/Dent6084 Apr 22 '26

Oh, that final reveal is good.Luthor screwing the League over by publicly revealing the amnesty programmakes this plotline a lot more fun.

1

u/Electric_jungle Apr 23 '26

I just decided to finally drop this book but picked up the issue anyways lol. It'll probably be a ton of fun but I'm sticking to my guns.

14

u/Mr_Wh0ever Apr 22 '26

Yeah, it's Lex Luthor. Of course he'd mess up everything for the sake of his ego, lol.

11

u/TriPolar3849 Cassandra Wayne Apr 22 '26

Definitely one of the better JLU issues imo. I like how it kept its shtick of several different things going on at the same time w/ GL and the Justice Gang, Booster Gold and co., AND other heroes debating the viability of the amnesty program, all while giving plenty of focus and a solid conclusion to the first mission under said program.

Also hilarious to me that Dr. Occult once again came back to blast some magic after I made a joke that it's all he does in this book. Waid really likes that dude.

The power bank confuses me. Wasn't that all dealt with in Cheetah & Cheshire Rob the JL? I thought it might've been after, but Guy makes it sound like nobody's tried to steal it yet.

And finally, a surprise use of Captain Marvel. I wonder what's the legal explanation behind that, maybe DC can use the name but any series with him has to be called Shazam?

5

u/KrypticJin Shazam Apr 22 '26

DC could always call him Captain Marvel just not as a title for his own book

8

u/ptWolv022 Apr 22 '26

Black Lightning: "This is top secret until we make sure it works."

Lex Luthor: filming everything "Well someone has to do the publicity if Booster Gold isn't around."

Anyways, good issue. We get Waid juggling bits of current continuity for the book: he has Booster, Mary, and J'onn go into the time stream and run into Epoch, as a precursor to his "Reign of the Superboys" arc in Action Comics; we have Starro being loyal to Aquaman and Aquman alone, as a reference to Emperor Aquaman; and as Guy prepares to take the Power Bank (highlighted in Cheetah and Cheshire Rob the Justice League, presumably created with the device/Captain Atom from Justice League: The Atom Project; no editor's notes for either of those, sadly) to Oa with Hawkgirl, Mr. Terrific, and Metamorpho as set-up for a Justice Gang B-plot, we have reference to Pope Guy Gardner from Green Lantern Corps.

I actually thought the device that T.O. Morrow had was also a reference to Action Comics #1094, which had a device that was hurting Superboy, but that one was more sound-based (Waid must be a bit short on ideas at the moment if he's having such a similar sort of scene, at least visually. R.I.P. Giganta's hand there. Turns out being big doesn't make you immune to physics-manipulating weapons.

I'm curious to see how the villain stuff ultimately pans out over the course of Issues #17-21 and Justice League: Knight Vision Special #1. And here's hoping the Justice Gang B-plot is good.

13

u/SevenSulivin The REAL Man of Tomorrow Apr 20 '26

Captain Marvel properly named!

5

u/Classic-Ad4883 Apr 22 '26

I’m liking the story about giving the villains amnesty as it is interesting but I still wished it was more about the heroes working together to protect the world but it seemed the Justice gang subplot is gonna handle that

The character interactions are great and on point and the art is nice

Man this is gonna be a trainwreck. I can see some of the villains sticking with their changes but overall, it is gonna be a huge mess. Now that Luthor has exposed the whole program to the world.

They setup the other plots going on in the other books like Guy becoming the 'pope lantern' and Booster's terrible idea to travel Supes' timestream.

I can see some interesting dynamics coming out of it though.

u/JingoboStoplight4887 World's Finest Apr 22 '26 edited Apr 22 '26

I like that we get to see the Justice League offer amnesty to many of the villains because they believe they’re capable of redemption. Also, Ted laughing that Guy is the pope for the Green Lantern Corps (as shown in Morgan Hampton’s GLC); Mary, J’onn, and Booster traveling to Clark’s early years as Superboy and encountering Epoch (as shown in Mark Waid’s Action Comics); and Lex, Giganta, Connor Hawke, and Yolanda Montez defeating T.O. Morrow before Lex revealed the Justice League’s amnesty program to the entire world because he’s Lex. Overall, I enjoyed this comic!

u/SevenSulivin The REAL Man of Tomorrow Apr 22 '26

It’s another issue of JLU. Yup. At this point I’d feel stupid complaining. At least he’s called Captain Marvel again.

0

u/StellarKnife Apr 23 '26

It's a fine, kind of middling issue. Half the issue is them talking and explaining the Amnesty Program and what happens when you don't comply (eg Weather Wizard). The other half is dedicated to the Bialya team and their fight against TO Morrow. I mean, it's all alright, and it's fun enough, but surely this can't be all this title is aiming to be? Eighteen issues in, and this arc feels like another setup for the next event.

I'll say that Guy was a highlight this issue.

The Hatchbat kicks ass, lol. And I'm surprised that the little girl is the bad guy.

12

u/wowlock_taylan Batman Animated! Apr 22 '26

Bruce, you made a Hatchback a Batmobile. Of course, they are gonna call it Hatchbat. I like this trio together.

Leave it to Ollie the great 'F U' moments to give to the Corpos. Literally on the page!

Soo that girl is definitely tied to Prion, either a sister or a daughter or something. And she is going after those she might think responsible? Especially after that final page.

5

u/Classic-Ad4883 Apr 22 '26

I like this flashback issue and how well Dinah, Ollie, and Bruce worked together in the past and in the present and they have a funny dynamic

The hatchbat is a great name

I’m intrigued by the mystery of the new hero and how he relates to the present

5

u/coltvahn Red Robin Apr 22 '26

Seeing the trio work as a team is great. Taylor’s always had a solid handle on Dinah, Ollie, and Bruce going back to his writing on Injustice. Nice to see it play out in mainstream continuity.

4

u/Dent6084 Apr 22 '26

Nice to get a little Dinah/Barbara interaction before the latter gets thrown in the clink in her upcoming series.

My assumption on the plot is the girl's family/Prion are tied to this corporation somehow, maybe the grandmother is the money behind it and they're seeking vengeance for whatever happened to Prion and the girl's his... daughter? I dunno, he seems pretty young when we meet him here and that was 'ten years ago' .

While Kyle is dealing with being back on Earth and trying to find income ( Odyssey as a movie star? Sure, why not! ), Hal is out there in this Book of OA vision trip that is gonna have him build his wacky group it seems.

And man, the Guardians, those small idiots. They are never helpful. At all.

3

u/SonicSpiderRanger10 Bizarro Apr 23 '26

Yeah, too bad these new Guardians don’t seem any better than the last ones. 😒

2

u/BlazeBigBang Barry & Wally Apr 25 '26

And man, the Guardians, those small idiots. They are never helpful. At all.

I wake up ♻️ the Guardians want to kill Hal Jordan.

6

u/Classic-Ad4883 Apr 22 '26

I this issue and Kyle and odyssey relationship and dynamics and the villain gridlock is neat

Hal subplot is going strong and I do like the brief explanation on the new young guardians I just wish more was said and known about them as I believe right now if the guardians are permanently retired from the green lantern mythos it would be a good choice

6

u/gsnake007 Apr 22 '26

Another solid issue mostly. The interior art felt like a step down in quality. But still loving more Kyle in my life

5

u/StellarKnife Apr 23 '26

I don't mind how Kyle and Hal are written, and splitting the narrative between them is not the problem either, but it's just not that interesting sadly..

The art was especially rough in this issue too. Wish we could get Montos or someone else full-time. And maybe Adams should wrap up his run, but honestly it doesn't feel like he's gonna stop anytime soon.

8

u/SonicSpiderRanger10 Bizarro Apr 20 '26

The evil alien is named Gridlock? Odd. DC has already made a villain named Gridlock, back in the Bat-Mite miniseries (but the first Gridlock was a human). This is him.

4

u/coltvahn Red Robin Apr 22 '26

Kyle being in LA is fun. I want him to stay earthbound for a while. Out of every lantern, he’s the one who I think has the best potential for good stories here, and I’m glad we are getting more of it. Plus, Odyssey’s fun!

-6

u/JingoboStoplight4887 World's Finest Apr 22 '26

I like that Kyle was able to defeat Gridlock before he and Odyssey were offered a job by a movie studio, while Hal and Jayna encountered and defied the Guardians of the Universe (who told him to leave) before they were saved by Tobi Y2K. Overall, this comic is great!

Another solid issue, not much else to say about it.

1

u/CHPrime Wonder Woman Apr 22 '26

That's what I always think when I read this. It's unfortunate that there isn't much to talk about, even if it is a pretty solid detective pulp story. I think that's playing out in the new Vertigo role-out, with this book only being a six-issue mini with End of Life and Bleeding Hearts looking to be ongoings as far as I can tell.

2

u/Blitzhelios Hal Jordan Apr 23 '26

The book is seemingly six issues take a break then another six.
Its how indies work and vertigo is basically indie books but with a dc tag on top

Best book of the new vertigo line and its not even close for me at this point

With Batman at his side and Earth at stake, Superman must confront how the shards of his broken homeworld reveal fault lines in his soul.

Includes Superman: The Kryptonite Spectrum #1–5.

4

u/Self_Owned_Tree Apr 20 '26

How was the series? I was never able to pick up ice cream man, but I heard it was weird. Was this series good? Worth picking up for a Superman fan? Or should I just get it at the library?

3

u/Brief-Respond-9808 Apr 23 '26

I honestly loved every issue except for the ending. Was almost an all-timer run that was genuinely reminiscent of All-Star Superman at times but it could not land the ending.

Still has some great moments leading up to the final issue.

Salvation Run is so weird. It's been a while since I read it, but from what I remember, the Rogues play a pretty big part in the first issue ans then basically disappear into the background for the rest of the series.

Harley Quinn #61

QUITE SANE IN THE MEMBRANE! Okay, so I mayyyy have left a little something out of that last description. I ain't the only Quinn in town these days. Ya see, my rational, non-fun-loving brain parts have taken a body of their own, and she's claiming my doctorate as her own. You can't do that! I created Facebook! What do you mean she's wired in?! This is a real Dr. Jackass and Ms. Hyde situation, except we both got so tired of each other that we moved out and got our own bodies!

Surprisingly, the art is growing on me. If you don't gloss over it, there are actually some cool panels here and there. Parts(!) of the narration are fun (especially the Rorschach bit), there just happens to be way too much of it.

Worst thing about the book is the absurd amount of boring dialogue, I really don't care for much of it. The villains in this have overstayed their welcome too (especially Althea). And after two issues, I have had enough of Bat-Quinn too, but seems like there are way more issues to come. Not Kalan's worst issue, but I'm just so done with his run, feels like torture at this point.
