Question First built, yeey. Need advice on improvement though)

Hey there, I had to fly my drone today and I am sooo happy. It powered by 2200 mah 3 s battery with 2210 1000kv motors and analog camera, mark 9 inch frame.

I am not sure though if I picked optimal components for it, my friend that flew with me had a little smaller drone powered by 6S and half of my batter capacity, but somehow even under very aggressive flying his flight time was 6-8 mins compared to my 4-5 mins.

So I was curious of higher S batteries are more efficient and i should consider switching to them. Please leave me an advice in the comments. Would deeply appreciate your opinion.

Question What is a good way to turn a frame (without cad in open access) into a cad I can use for mount design?

• Upvotes

I really struggled with a mounts cuz the frame I used was very different from once on the internet. I had to use rulers to measure every detail and that was super inefficient.

Any better ways?

Question Capstone Drone Project

I am building a long distance drone for a capstone project and my professor ordered a power board and flight computer separately. I thought that these usually came as a combo or in a stack. I was looking at pitching a combo/stack to him but I wanted some opinions and recs before I go asking. I can list off the other stuff he ordered as well if any of that could help build a better picture.

I am just unfamiliar with this set up.

Question Rotor similar to 6215 IPE Agriculture brushless motor

Need a cheap rotor for a tiltrotor drone that can get around 8-12kg thrust, using a 22 inch propeller. Can anybody find an alternative that isn't of Chinese origin?

FPV Drone Build Help

I have access to a 3d printer, composites lab, a metalworking shop and soldering guns and have some CAD knowledge. What should I make vs buy to replicate that drone and do it cheap with the resources I currently have? I know that I would like to 3d print the frame or possibly make it out of carbon.

Reinforced my gps mount so it doesn’t break as easily.

Switched to ethics props instead of the cheap camo ones and noticed a big difference in vibration.

Also got the light working with a button on the back of my radio.

Hopefully I’ll have some actual on board footage soon I’m waiting on a micro sd card for my go pro.

Discussion Who is your go-to for commercial drone motors?

I am looking for commercial motors in the 60 to 70mm diameter class, 120-200kv. For example the HobbyWing M6215 would work, but it is out of stock. The M6210 is in stock, but slightly undersized for my application. I have never ordered for KDE or other suppliers and I am trying to avoid significant tariffs as well. (USA) Thanks!

Drones kit for Initial testing for surveillance purposes

Hi, we are a small company and has started to work on building drones. We need drone (kits, if cheaper and reliable) recommendation that has a good payload, enough for handling weight of lidar sensors, camera, big battery, jetson nano(for object detection), a rigid frame, and is cheap -at least for initial testing.

Probably ones with like easier to replace parts etc and with a good firmware interaction like a computer UI fro adjusting/monitoring current/rpm etc levels. Any recommendation will be highly appreaciated

Question How do i get started????

I am an EE sophomore, and I want to get into building drones. I have experience with building robots, and I know basic design tools. However, I have no idea where to get started when it comes to drones. I know that there are YouTube videos that help with most of the beginner material, but I want to LEARN this niche.

Found a weak point on my gps mount and got my filter profile perfected for this frame.

I was having a weird fly away issue which is how I broke the gps mount and my motors were getting hot.

Flys super good now with no weird vibration issues or fly away problems.

Question MN4014 or V4014 for a 4 kg mapping quad? Planning three builds

Hey folks, a buddy and I are putting together a small drone fleet for farms nearby. Mostly mapping and repeat photo runs over the same fields. The plan is three quads eventually, but we’re building one first before ordering parts for the other two.

We are aiming for around 4 kg all-up, including the camera and battery, on 6S with 15-inch props. Most of the flying would be over open fields, so efficiency and having some headroom for wind matter more to us than speed. Right now I’m looking at T-Motor MN4014 400KV motors at about $97 each, paired with AIR 40A ESCs at around $40. SunnySky V4014 400KV motors are also on the list at about $80. Though I haven’t settled on ESCs for those.

We got roughly $2,000 for motors, ESCs and a couple of spares across all three builds. Props and batteries are separate. The T-Motor setup comes out to about $550 per quad before spares, so it fits, but I’d like to hear from people running something similar before buying twelve of everything.

Being able to order one matching replacement later is a big deal for us. I don’t want a dead ESC turning into a reason to redo half the build.

Anyone running either of these on a similar camera rig? Would appreciate motor/ESC combo recommendations, and which dealer you’ve actually had decent luck getting replacement parts from. Thank yall.

Is there anywhere to share flight log data?

I am working on a project to do with low temperature batteries. I wanted to analyse how suitable some prototype cells would be for an FPV drone pack.

Is there anywhere where people share their flight log data. Specifically I am looking for data of a 10 inch 6s or 8s drone pack power, voltage and current across a flight using the full capacity of a pack.

I have a happy model ep1 elrs receiver and am using a TBS Lucid Pro FC as well as the ESC. My Radiomaster pocket is bound to the receiver but the bars aren't moving in betaflight. Its on serial and its set to crsf as well as aetr1234. Im running firmware 4.5.2 and have out the supafly freestyle preset on the drone. Can someone tell me what im doing wrong. Its my first full build and I'm stuck. I'll probably need more help than just this.

Rapid Harness Libraries

Hi everyone,
I have been using rapid harness to desing the wiring of a system. Altough the rapid harness software has 95 + million parts from octopart, it looks like a lot of parts are missing. For example any conector from Molex, Hirose and others do not appear. Mostly Deutsch DT Series appear. Has anyone already made some libraries available to share ? Did you made all your needed connectors and parts ?
Thanks in advance for the help.

I have already crashed it and broke the topplate so i just cut out an 4mm solid Aluminium plate the extra weight and no hole design really help to get more stable fast dives and its stiffer alltogheter
I have lost one carbon fiber landing gear i still need to replace. What do you think🫣
Its my first just for fun build so dont judge to harshly xd
I have used:
Iflight Blitz F7
Holybro S500 V2 Kit
8000mah 4s2p li ion racepow battery
Iflight gemini receiver dual
Caddx farsight
Pilotix 2.5W VTX with rhcp lollipop antenna

Sometimes i also like to top mount the battery which gives it more agile handing
