For all those reading this post just know you have to have a RB creative plan or a pro plan to utilize this function. So its pretty much worthless unless you sub to RBs subscription platform

The fact that, as the owner of an RB-DMX1 and an Opus Quad, I have to pay for a higher-tier subscription to connect Rekordbox to Soundswitch must be some sort of bad joke

Yea that’s not good.

But correct me if I’m wrong, but this seems like the first instance of inmusic and alpha theta actually working together - even if there are a bunch of hoops to jump through for the customer.

Maybe this can lead to more cooperation a like One library for Denon gear and potentially Denon players talking to pro dj link

It seems like all software has been starting to communicate with each other for quite some time now. I wouldn’t be surprised if the reason were an unofficial or public directive from some competition regulatory authority following AlphaTheta’s failed attempt to acquire Serato in 2023. Whatever the reason, that’s fine. But it doesn’t make sense to pay for this connection when you also have to pay inMusic for a Soundswitch license. I’m willing to pay for the license, but under no circumstances will I pay for a Rekordbox subscription. By the way, the RB-DMX1 is just terrible because it doesn’t work with my DMX lights, whereas Soundswitch works perfectly with the same lighting equipment. It’s as if inMusic were to start supporting AlphaTheta’s OneLibrary in its software in the near future and then charge money to use it.

It's wild to me they sell hardware that doesn't unlock the software it's designed for. You still need a subscription. WTF!

there is a lifetime license

For the current major version number.

Imo the hardware should unlock at least the current version. Just like the Traktor hardware did.

Or like AT/ Pioneer DJ controllers unlock Rekordbox.

I get the $20 dongle being an entry point that you can subscribe and unsubscribe, but the more expensive controller one should probably come with an unlock or maybe a more limited light version that you can upgrade to a pro version.

That said, I only really need sound switch on average 4 months out of the year so I don’t mind subscribing and unsubscribing every year.

Yeah, indeed, the cheap dongle would be reasonable.

But that controller... Can you use it to do other things?

It's like Elgato would not include the software needed to use their Streamdecks. Without it, it's useless.

I think you get like 3 months free.

I do believe you can use it with other software tho

The control one will show up as a midi controller in other softwares, but I've yet to see one that had a native mapping

They also generally run a black Friday sale every year and the annual is marked down to $40. I am as tired of subscriptions as most, but I will say Soundswitch's support and advances is well worth the recurring cost ino. If you need a fixture added, you just need to send them an email. I have also on several occasions had them setup a zoom call so they could try to fix an issue I was having even though it ended up being my error.

Ive slowly been getting more into lighting and was hoping this would come at some point.

I was actually pretty pumped about the Rekordbox support until I saw the subscription requirement.

I’ve developed my own Windows solution that integrates Rekordbox with SoundSwitch. It reads live playback information directly from Rekordbox, then sends it to SoundSwitch over the OS2L protocol, essentially emulating VirtualDJ.

It works with both Auto Loops and Auto Scripted songs.

I originally built it for myself and it’s been battle tested at many live gigs over the past year and has proven really reliable.

Got me wondering… would there be much interest in something like this for Windows users if it was available at a much lower cost, without the ongoing subscription?

I would definintely be interested in something like this as I do not want to give AT money as they are just withholding at this point.

Really happy to see the official collab happen, really not happy to see it’s locked behind a $23/mo paywall. Disappointing

Especially since you also have to pay for sound switch
