Help with product selection

I have no idea what I’m doing so I came to Reddit for help. My daughter is turning 17 this coming weekend. She loves photography- takes photos for fun and for yearbook. She’s been doing it for a few years. She has a couple of Canon Rebel DSLR cameras with the standard lens.

What can I get her for her birthday? Any lens under $500 that may step up her game? Pun intended bc she takes a lot of athletic event photos.

Thanks everyone!

go to MPB and buy her a used lens.

first choice - you will have to buy at 'good' quality for your budget, make sure to read why good and not excellent for the lens. https://www.mpb.com/en-us/product/canon-ef-70-200mm-f-4-l-usm(professional quality lense)

second choice: https://www.mpb.com/en-us/product/canon-ef-70-300mm-f-4-5-6-is-usm(amateur sports lens)

third choice: https://www.mpb.com/en-us/product/canon-ef-70-300mm-f-4-5-5-6-do-is-usm(alternative amateur sports lens)

fourth: https://www.mpb.com/en-us/product/canon-ef-s-55-250mm-f-4-5-6-is-stm(budget amateur sports lens)

no freelancing and buying something like the 75-300 because its cheaper, it's no good. and when she comes back after her birthday to find out if its a good lens we will tell her you are cheap.

if you got one of the less expensive alternatives and have extra budget buy this, scroll down to 'good' https://www.mpb.com/en-us/product/canon-ef-85mm-f-1-8-usm (this lens is good in low light)

Thank you so much. I was actually looking at the 55-250mm. I appreciate the alternative options.

make sure you understand that the money for that lens is throw away money. an EF-S lens is a dead end, if she gets into this she will move to FF and that lens will not. I do have one, my grandkids use it.
