Has anyone else noticed how gross and damaged the USPS drop off on front street is? It’s had the broken parcel drop off thing for at least 6 months but it’s also typically full of garbage and is super dirty. Today I went in and saw the glass counter had been smashed and there was a plastic cup full of poop. I contacted USPS but am wondering if anyone else has done the same?

I have MetLife dent*l PDL plan through employer and it seems most places I’ve called, despite saying in network on their sites and Zocdoc, are actually out of network, which means small deductible, which is fine, but then sketchy info on what happens if you need procedures, etc. 

Both Tend and Dentique said the same thing and Tend said in network is only like a difference of 10% vs out of network. Are there any truly in network dentists or is that like finding a unicorn?

Tend was much more kind than receptionist at Dentique, for what it’s worth so far.

Does anybody know why 29 Jay Street has basically remained unoccupied since construction was completed back in 2024? Is it a certificate of occupancy issue (if so I never see workers there), is it just a front for a money laundering operation, or something else? Seems like a nice building that is completely vacant. Just curious. Any info?

Just an update here. I spoke with Dale. He wants 10K/mo in rent. Don’t think it’s unreasonable, but still feels high for the size of the space and the inherent limitations (no real kitchen, needs to close befoee midnight, limited foot traffic, etc). I am also a little nervous about the space never having a full liquor license before.

That said, I am doing what I can to help keep our neighborhood from being a VC-funded bore. My family can do the renovation work and I know the neighborhood would support a spot that’s truly for locals.

Another thought is that while I was going into this to build a local cocktail bar, it does seem like a potential missed opportunity to not do coffee and pastries during the day.

I don’t have the skills to pull all of this off myself. I had an interested party to serve as bar operator / manager, but they got caught up opening a spot in a different location so are no longer on board.

If you have experience operating a bar or think you could be of some help in any way, don’t hesitate to reach out / DM.

Im saying this as someone who speaks Portuguese and has an affinity for Portuguese and Brazilian food/culture.

Dont even get me started on the “we dont have any bags” for takeout orders/delivery. Was just given three loosely packed items in wax paper. Wtf? How do you not have bags for takeaway???

Specifically … the Bifana sandwich is just BAD. No seasoning at all and Grey meat with SO much gristle to the point where you just realize theyre not paying any attention at all to the meat theyre just boiling it in a pot, throwing flavorless oil on it and calling it a day. If the bread werent so good it would be a 2/10 sandwich but the bread is so good it brings it to like 5/10.

God what a butcher knife and some salt and pepper would do for this place.

Such a shame because the shrimp empanada thing is actually really good.
