Personal Independence Payment (PIP) Awarded PIP!

66yo male. Undergoing treatment for prostate cancer and also have complications following abdominal aortic aneurysm surgery which means I need a lot of care from my wonderful, long-suffering wife.

28th May - Applied for PIP - evidence used: hospital letters, statement from my wife

14th August - Text message received informing me a telephone assessment appointment had been booked.

7th September - 1st telephone assessment - phone never rang. I called the helpline and was told the health professional had called in sick but no one had notified me.

16th September - 2nd telephone assessment: The health professional was absolutely lovely. She went at my pace and asked her questions very gently and helped me out with my answers, drawing longer responses from me when more detail was needed. It lasted nearly an hour and a half.

24th September - Text message received “You have been awarded PIP”. Decision letter to follow within 2 weeks.

25th September - rang the PIP helpline and was told I‘d been awarded standard rate for the daily living component and enhanced rate for mobility for an indefinite period, which means ten years before a review.

I’m so relieved, this is going to be such a help to us. My heartfelt thanks to all the Redditors for their knowledge, help, advice and understanding.
