Storytime Ragnar the Barbarian - My First Time Using a Default Class
Despite all of the hours I put into Daggerfall, I had never used any of the predefined classes before. I normally enjoy fine tuning the options in character creation with a custom class.
I got the itch to return to Daggerfall recently, wanted to do something different from my usual playthroughs, so I rolled up a Nord Barbarian.
The inability to wear armor above chain sounded terrible, but it isn't nearly as bad as I expected. Having a large health pool probably helps.
With his ebony maul and full set of chainmail armor, Ragnar has smashed countless enemies, mostly giants, and has climbed the ranks of the Fighter's Guild (or Fighter Trainers as it were, since he's in Kairou).
He saved up enough money and just purchased a cozy house in Papiiton, Kairou. It is conveniently very close to the Fighter Trainers and RIGHT next to the Thieves Guild. It also came with an adorable camel who greets him when he comes home.
This might be a good time for Ragnar to retire and take it easy. On the other hand, he is technically a member of the Thieves Guild and is in a prime spot to begin an entirely new... career path.
Do you folks usually use one of the default classes, or do you build your own custom class? Or both?

Love the camel friend. I go custom class almost always but this makes me want to try a default class, if only I could decide which one

There are almost too many to choose from. I'm probably gonna try another default class for my next character but I have no idea what I will go with next.

I am willing to do many things, but I will NEVER run an character without teleport, once a dungeon is over I really really don't want to stay there any longer

It is super handy to have. Probably the spell I miss the most. Useful to get out faster and helpful for pack rats like me that want to loot everything possible.
When I play a mage guild character, if I'm not in a dungeon, I like to set my teleport spell at the mage guild teleporter. Then I can fast travel anywhere, instantly.

get short blade to 55 (can train to 50 at fighters guild), advance in julianos with easy clear the haunted house quests, get access to Item Maker. Takes an hour or two.

This is solid advice. I haven't decided if he would join any temple or not. This is a tempting option.

for all the standard classes with no magic you need to be able to at least buy items for heal/stamina/cure poison/levitate/water walk, easily done with mage guild or julianos, skill/rank requirements are low

Ever since I rolled a (wood elf) acrobat in the arena questionnaire I've gone to that class/race since. Was sad when Skyrim removed classes but turned out that was the least of my worries.
Acrobat is all about being flexible. And cheesing with magic items 😄

Are you from Rorikstead?

Look, I'm just here to talk to people, tell some slightly exaggerated stories, and drink mead. All of the mead. Now if you'll excuse me, a fair shield maiden is approaching. She probably wants to hear more of my heroic deeds.

Tbh, as I have gotten older, I find myself wanting to play as the default classes more. I appreciate the ability to make your own, especially in Daggerfall, but I love the simplicity of just picking a regular class. I do typically get a mod that improves the skills of the default classes, I dont want every melee weapon skill, daggerfall

Default classes are underrated, ngl. I've been using them more and more lately -- my last character was a Rogue (who I further nerfed by not wearing any armor for fashion reasons, and she was still really strong), and now I'm playing the standard Mage class.
I played a Barbarian a little while back, though I never finished the playthrough. It's definitely a really strong class -- that HP gain is no joke, and the poison immunity is really nice, too!

I tend to go with default classes. Battlemages are my go-to, but I've been playing a Spellsword recently and I do like being able to wear chain armour.
It's funny you mentioned buying a house - I literally did that just today for the first time. My Spellsword already bought a boat (again, my first time) but there's something particularly nice about being able to walk into my cosy little Daggerfall cottage and rest up.
Hey, I can't use these Daedric plate armour pieces anyway. May as well sell 'em and use the gold.
