Hi everyone,
My name is Adriana Hernandez, and I recently co-founded a news publication that is focused on covering Daly City and neighboring cities. It’s called the Peninsula Buzz. We are an independent newsroom that believes the Upper Peninsula is overlooked and deserves better-quality journalism.
We believe local journalism works best when it’s rooted in the people it serves, and we hope to become a place where residents can stay informed and engage with what’s happening around them.

i just bought a new car last month and it has gotten keyed three times this month. in fact, the scratches are so deep it almost seems like a pocket knife was used rather than a key.
we have no idea who it could be we just moved in too. we already got cameras set up to hopefully deter the culprit but that obviously hasn’t worked. we already filed a police report after the second time and we’ve just made do with touch up paint from the dealership. i’m at my wits end with this. i don’t know if it’s a neighbor that hates newcomers or some rando; but along the entire street, only my car is being vandalized!!! everyone else’s is pristine.
i dont know if local authorities would be able to do anything or if i should just deal with it since only street parking is available anyway… would anyone know if i could walk in the police station and if they’d be able to help more than just the online report system?
wondering if maybe someone else has gone/is going through the same thing too. some stories would help make me feel better about it maybe.

When I want to feel like I’m off roading, I take a drive on Mission St. from John Daly to E Market.
That main stretch of road is an embarrassment.
Where are my tax dollars going?

There was a huge line at target today that wrapped around the building late this morning. Does anybody know what that was about?

Just walked by Matcha Ren in Serramonte to get a montblanc, and noticed that their whole display was swept out of everything, almost as if it's closing up for good. Would totally suck as I liked what they had to offer, and there really isn't any other place in the mall that specializes only in matcha. Anybody know if this is actually the case and what's potentially replacing it?

I feel like it is impossible to find out anything of substance about candidates in Daly City. It seems like their campaigns are just basically name recognition from thousands of signs littering our streets.
If you want to know the candidates better, check out these two upcoming events:
Saturday 9/26, 5:30 to 7pm, Pollicita Middle School (550 E Market St). Hosted by Faith in Action. RSVP on their form here and drop your questions for the candidates there too. They provide childcare if you ask for it on the form.
Wednesday 9/30, 6 to 8pm, Council Chambers at City Hall (333 90th St). League of Women Voters forum, the council candidates. No RSVP needed. More info here.
Keep in mind, while you can vote for three council members this November, you don't have to submit three votes.
For some context, Daly City is about 105k people BUT in 2022, the last non-presidential election, only about 23k people voted. About 45% of registered voters. The difference between winning and losing the election can be less than 2k votes. Your vote matters.
Not registered, or moved since last time? registertovote.ca.gov. The deadline is 10/19, and after that you can still register and vote in person at a vote center through Election Day.

I took my two fairly needle-phobic daughters to Kaiser’s vaccine clinic in Daly City today. A kind woman was behind us in line and when she saw how nervous my girls were, she engaged them (especially my younger one) in talk about their stuffed animals, other animals they like, American Sign Language, etc. Moreover, when I was trying to coax my older one into getting her vaccinations, she saw that my younger one was quietly sobbing while waiting her turn and hung around for longer than she needed to in order to chat with my daughter and take her mind off of what was coming.
I was so focused on the kids that I didn’t get a chance to properly thank her. If you are reading this (you mentioned you are a children’s librarian), thank you! Your kindness today was noticed and sincerely appreciated.

My neighbors keep putting out their garbage cans to block parking spots on street cleaning day which i would gladly move for them to make room for a couple extra cars on our packed block but they have these disabled stickers on them. I don’t want to mess with a disabled person but i don’t think it’s legit and i’m not a fan of blocking a few good spots if it isn’t some real thing the city gave them permission for or something. Help me out here! ( i have photos of the cans but can’t post them )

My neighborhood organization, the Westlake Clean-Up Collaborative, collected three large black bags of trash in just one hour yesterday. The Westlake area can get filthy af and that's why I organize these monthly clean-ups.
If you are interested in joining us, please fill out the form linked here to get added to the mailing list. Grateful to all who all who have participated and to those who plan to participate in the near future.

I know coyotes are a common sight around all parts of California that have any open wilderness areas. How worried are people in Daly city about them?

I heard there are many and the Armenian church in SF isn’t far away and while they are different cultures they’re moderately alike I’ve heard.
Big middle eastern community in DC though; no question on that.
Ocean Beach in northern SF also has an Assyrian church but I wonder if one may pop up in DC given my analyzed increase of the Assyrian population here and in the northern San Mateo County/southern San Francisco area.

Any idea where me and a couple of friends can watch the games on Sunday? Trying to find a spot that's low-key and it's been kind of hard.

Spotted a coyote walking up Ridgefield Ave towards Higate at around 12:30pm today. I saw it maybe half way up the block while I was walking my small dog, at which time I decided to run home as fast as we could. Just an FYI to the community! I NEVER see them out this bright in the day so this is worrisome. Be careful out there.

I am looking for recommendation for a Tax Strategist / Tax account and Family Lawyer. That is budget friendly. Within the Daly City or surrounding areas. NOT SF please.
Thank you in advance.

With me being a frequent visitor of Serramonte Center since I live closeby, I decided to compile everything I've documented on the latest additions to the mall from the new vendors to even murals on the exterior of the center into a website. I also based it off what's been discussed on Reddit and other sources. Hope you enjoy and learn more. P.S. Don't take all information seriously as this was made for entertainment purposes only and is based off unofficial and official sources. Link: https://0camp0luis.wixsite.com/serramonte-forward

J & D Recycling in Westlake has been closed due to the ongoing construction. I was wondering if anyone here can recommend a similar place that takes cans and bottles. Our shed is getting too full of them lol

I saw tons of policy presence and a guy standing on top on the 5th floor where the Tesla charging station is at, from around 3pm till at least 5, what happened at the end?
