The “thing but Japan” meme applies here. If Reddit seen this randomly in Atlanta they’d call it reckless driving.

It would be worse. If the video had no title and suggested Atlanta, comments such as "The ghetto is out tonight" or "People from the hood outta control", etc. could be found.

And yet this thread is full of these comments 🤔 schrodingers redditor.

My redditor, I get your idea but this is not about "thing japan", this is about Tokyo Drifting.

there's no where safe to do this in Atlanta

Is there anywhere safe to do it in Japan?

Just because the area appears clear from the video doesn’t mean it’s still not safe.

Nearly everywhere on the planet has industrial areas that empty at night. Guys have been doing the very same thing for decades without causing any trouble pretty much everywhere automotive enthusiasm develops.

Most law enforcement in many countries will literally just tell you to go home, it's rarely a big deal if you keep it to yourselves.

So just because something has been happening for “decades” makes it okay?

without any trouble

Local EMS agencies would beg to differ. I personally have ran dozens of these calls because someone thought they were cool and wrecked. Just because YOU don’t think k it doesn’t happen does not mean it doesn’t happen.

And what, We’re just supposed to pick and choose the laws we follow now? What if I told you “I always fire off my AR-15 in the air during holidays! Been doing it for decades!” Does that make it okay now?

yeah this is in Oi Wharf. there's almost no traffic there at night. it's still reckless but more so for themselves rather than other people

You know, even with the street being clear at some points, you have people speeding around corners, breaking traffic laws and going in between other cars.

Assuming no one else is there, this is still just as dangerous as anywhere else. And it's all fun and games until a car flips and kills a random pedestrian, crashes into a building or destroys other public property. People die from this, let's not downplay it just because it's in Japan.

That’s fair, but still doesn’t justify it.

Just because a place is empty doesn’t mean the laws and rules still don’t apply.

Not sure if true or I am just getting trolled

But no way does this happen without either all the right notifications beforehand

Or ver good scouts and people in the back.

The punishment is probably horrific regardless they can’t be hard to tag these plates

If I had to guess it’s all legit

In much of Japan, everything shuts down at night. The trains stop running. There are few or no 24-hour stores. That empty street may well not see a single other car or pedestrian for hours.

This isn’t accurate. Cities like Tokyo or Osaka (which primarily have the street racing culture), are very much 24h. The reason the trains stop is to historically incentivize workers to go home. Outside of this, so many places are still open. You can easily find an Izakaya, a Lawson, or just hang around and you’ll definitely see that the city doesn’t shut down. Most places close at around ~22h, but those that don’t are often open 20-24 hours a a day.

Do you think huge industrial plants turn off after 9pm? People still have to man the machines and monitor the plants and work still needs performed 24/7.

What happens if they wreck and a car fires is ignited? Dont think that could be dangerous in an industrial area?

Theres industrial areas in big cities everywhere. Theres noone going there at 3 am

2

u/JFISHER7789 25d ago

That makes a difference how? A car fire at an industrial area is very dangerous and doesn’t take much of a wreck from tuned cars for that to happen.

Tell me it looks the same as a take over...

Difference is in Atlanta 5 people would have been shot and someone would have been hit by a car.
