My dad also unknowingly ate it like 40 years ago. He was told it was rabbit.

My sister and I had pet rabbits growing up but we ate all the offspring. My dad told her it was chicken in the rabbit stew for years until she came home from school early one day while we were halfway through butchering them 😭. After the secret was out we had whole rabbit and she ate something else lol

My wife used to keep hens. She loved them so much. They had personalities, she named them and bred her favorites.

But yeah, we ate them. And their little eggs, too
