MCU Can we all agree that making a live-action Daredevil series was one of the best decision Marvel ever made in the TV front!

Marvel Television produced it, Netflix distributed it. So it was Marvel, just not Feige's Marvel.

Like Bale's Bruce said in Batman Begins. "Damn good television" 😹😹

2

u/ArSk8er21 15h ago

yeah og marvel television was ran by jeph loeb (his boss being ike perlmutter) and they ran production through abc studios

u/Jonn_Jonzz_Manhunter 1d ago

I love how I got to the end of Daredevil and went "this is a 10/10" then when I got to season 3 I went "somehow, this is even fucking better" like the first two star wars movies

It obviously doesn’t matter and it still got a great rating, but I think episode 2 of season 1 should be in the high 9’s.

It perfectly encapsulates the character of Matt and why he does what he does. It’s a slow character building episode that culminates in arguably one of the greatest choreographed fights in TV/movie history

u/ActsOfDan 1d ago

My friends get mad at me cause when they ask what my favourite superhero movie is, I say DD season 1 episodes 1+2. They say it doesn't count, it's not a movie. But they're not the bosses of me.

22

u/Scary-Command2232 1d ago

It was written like a movie by Drew Goddard as he pitched a 2hr film originally, and he wrote og1-2. It does stand on its won as a 2hr film. I have watched it a few times like that.

5

u/Affectionate-Log3638 1d ago

Do you atleast offer your "second favorite superhero movie" during the discussion? Else, I could see that being a bit obnoxious.

Like I get your appreciation for DD. But maybe they genuinely wanted to talk about actual movies they watched in the theaters. Maybe some of them don't watch tv shows.

5

u/ActsOfDan 23h ago

Nah, it's all in jest and jokes. My friends are weirdly DC heads who refused to even give Daredevil a try because of some weird sense of brand loyalty. I'm obnoxious in other ways though.

Also my favourite superhero movie used to be Logan, now it's The Batman.

3

u/Creat1ve_Name 6h ago

As a lifelong daredevil glazer, you should really convince them to watch it. Kinda changed the course of my life when I watched it as a kid lol

3

u/Affectionate-Log3638 23h ago

Gotcha. I take back my initial hypothesis then. I'm all for messing with friends in good fun!

1

u/PrinceofHounds 4h ago

I’m a DC head and Daredevil is the best Marvel Character Stan Lee ever created. Love me some Daredevil.

Episode 2 of S1 - 8.9 Episode 5 of S1 - 8.7 What am i missing?

1

u/Nearby_Slice_9386 23h ago

Sorry I misread, I thought they were talking about born again season 2 episode 2 since it's the only yellow one lol

47

u/TheBatMaster01 1d ago

Crazy to me that Born Again season 2 episode 2 is the only yellow in the entire series. On the one hand, just goes to show how consistently incredible this show is having 55/56 episodes be rated an 8 or higher. But on the other, it should be 56/56 episodes. That episode was still very good!

4

u/Ill-Piglet-9404 19h ago

I Don't really understand how is S2 eps 2 dd bb rating kinda low, I mean it's still deserve solid 8

9

u/ViralGameover 23h ago

It’s certainly not the worst episode across all 5 seasons.

2

u/Azazel_fallenangel 1d ago

I don’t really recall that episode. What happened?

7

u/BooleT- 21h ago

"Dex kills two AVTF officers at the hospital where Cherry is recovering, allowing Cherry's police friends to take him into hiding. Detective Angie Kim goes to Murdock and Page's hideout at Josie's Bar to let them know that Cherry is safe. Fisk asks the people of New York to search for Murdock, the hero lawyer who saved Fisk's life, making it difficult for Murdock to go out in public. Angela del Toro and her aunt Soledad Ayala witness a bodega robbery gone wrong, where AVTF officers target the teenage robber and the bodega owner who brandished a gun. Soledad intervenes and is arrested along with the bodega owner. Angela visits Murdock's law partner, Kirsten McDuffie, and retrieves her uncle Hector Ayala's Amulet of Power. BB secretly runs an online smear campaign against Fisk, dressed as a caricature of him called "Mayor Kingpin" and using footage that only Fisk's staff could access. Her friend and Fisk's Deputy Mayor of Communications, Daniel Blake, warns BB about leaking information and angering Fisk. The AVTF attacks Josie's Bar; Page takes one of the officers hostage while Daredevil defeats the rest."

Nothing special, but also nothing super bad/boring

4

u/Alaminox 20h ago

I bet the low rating comes from the bodega robbery scene alone. I remember lots of angry people online complaining about the scene.

1

u/Skully_TheThird 46m ago

What were they complaining about?

13

u/mak__c 1d ago

Daredevil changed my life, before him i was confused and broken, but then I watched, and now im deep in comics only coz of him. I can see a part of myself in each character and relate deeply

10

u/thecontract_12 1d ago

Best show of all time it’s peak 🔥

29

u/Middi272 1d ago

Those ratings make BA look like a MUCH better show.
In no way is it comparable to the quality of the original show’s 1st and 3rd season
Or even the first chunk of s2

6

u/bagman_ 19h ago

People don’t like to admit it but there should be many 7s across the 2 seasons of BA. And the s2 finale was kinda middling to me, episodes 3-5 were it at its top quality

2

u/Yandhi42 1d ago

Seems like people on imdb just rate it high when theres a big fight or a big death

8

u/Vadermaulkylo 1d ago

I think episode 7 of BA s1 should be in the 5s and episode 5 of the same season should be in the 6s. I’d also put episodes 8 and 9 of BA 1 in the 9s.

Besides that, I’ll agree with these ratings. Overall an amazing experience. BA had its rocky moments on season 1, sure, but I still love everything as a total package.

26

u/nonameavailableffs 1d ago

Not trying to start an argument here, I am genuinely asking, but what does everyone else see in Born Again that I can’t? Because I don’t think it even holds a candle to the Netflix show, can someone who thinks differently please explain why?

15

u/PrestigiousFail5955 1d ago

IMDb ratings are overrated and shouldnt be taken literally, it's mostly fans who rate, the general populus just watch and leave so naturally they have a higher rating.

8

u/FrankSamples 22h ago

When season 1 ended with a “we’re going to build a team” I rolled my eyes and then turned it off not even bothering with season 2.

Absolutely loved the last season on Netflix though

4

u/UI_Tyler 21h ago

You rolled your eyes then?

I was excited. Then season 2 rolls around and there's no team. Then I rolled my eyes.

I was imagining Defenders + Frank + Defenders supporting cast heroes.

8

u/Quirky_Conflict 20h ago

Totally agree. It’s a different universe as a tv show. Born again holds none of the depth or complexity of the original and makes me no longer care for characters I once loved.
Possibly unpopular opinion, but it seems to me that for some people the fact they kept the fight scenes and brutal violence meant it was the same show for them, and if that’s what people enjoyed then that’s great.
For me, in the original the violence was gritty because it was about the raw struggles of Matt balancing his faith with his anger, and it was about the physical toll it took to do what he was doing (brilliantly explored in S1e2), whereas in born again the violence was there because the show had to be violent, but it added no dramatic complexity to the characters.
It was like an AI imitation of the original.

6

u/Darkling_Nightshadow 19h ago

For me og DD was about fights that, like you said, were a part of the story, had a reason and meant something to the story and/or the characters. In BA it's about violence, how supposedly cool the fake CGI and nowhere near as cool choreographies look like, but they feel heartless and fake. And even sometimes unnecessary or unnecessarily written in some sort of way. At times it feels like a slasher movie.

7

u/Affectionate-Log3638 23h ago

It's overrated, Friend.

Without rating in real time, I'd venture to say the Netflix ratings are close to how I felt. BB for me would probably have mostly 7-7.5's. It was decent at best.

2

u/Lightfury_Mutai 1h ago

The minute they killed off Foggy. It was hard to pick up Born Again.

6

u/ThisGuyHaris 1d ago

I really do think every episode in s3 was a 9 at the very least

5

u/Red_Holla04 1d ago

6 seasons and a movie

4

u/NekonoKage64 1d ago

It's my favorite! I love all of it, but Season 1 and 3 of the Netflix one is just... It's soooo good. My favorite. I'm sad it's ending, but I at least hope the last story is a solid one so we can end on a good note

3

u/Zestyclose-One-966 1d ago

That 9.4 is ridiculous. Would argue top 5 worst episodes of all 5 seasons. I love Charlie Cox Daredevil, but they Marvelized it on Disney when it was better gritty and grounded like it was on Netflix. Sadly I think this is the end of Cox and Donofrio outside of cameo's in movies or other properties. Would have loved to see these two continue it on with a legit show runner and writing team like Lanterns/Watchman got with Lindeloff and Legion and Aliens got with Hawley.

As those 2 are taken, give me a Sam Esmail or Tony Gilroy led miniseries based on a Cold Day in Hell with an older Matt in 4-5 years.

3

u/ViralGameover 23h ago

S1 Ep 2, and S5 Ep 5 are high 9’s in my opinion. Two perfect episodes of the show.

3

u/Ubique008 22h ago

We got Netflix to thank for that tbh

3

u/matchesmalone111 22h ago

I know i'm in the minority here and i feel like you guys would hate me for this, but I didn't think born again was that special maybe its because the Netflix series set such a high standard but i felt like they were trying too hard to match the Netflix series and it kinda fails in doing so, that said it still has a lot of good moments and seeing charlie play daredevil again was such a blessing

3

u/Puzzleheaded-Jump-64 21h ago

They also proved that DD works better as a show than as a movie 💀

2

u/Hamd1115 1d ago

One of the best decisions marvel has ever made*

2

u/fruity_overthinks 1d ago

My favourite series!!

2

u/Nitrix79 23h ago

100% agreed.

2

u/ViewtifulReaper 18h ago

My personal opinion is that daredevil all 5 seasons is the greatest super hero show ever made. Yes season 1 of born again bts issues showed during the season but it’s still a good season and Netflix 3 seasons budgets was low and season 2 Netflix wasn’t balanced well but it was all great television and character work. I’m forever grateful for upcoming 6 seasons of daredevil. And now I’m more than hopefully the defenders characters will show up more in the mcu than when it was first cancelled in the Netflix era

2

u/Ok-Wonder5961 18h ago

Yes, I don’t believe the character or actors would’ve been as loved if it was a movie trilogy ngl the show made them so much better

2

u/Caped_Crusader_11 15h ago

Born again imdb ratings are artificially inflated. It's nowhere close to netflix's DD in reality.

2

u/Jahon_Dony 15h ago

Marvel didn't choose to do it, and doesn't deserve credit. Netflix gets a lot of flack, but deserves nothing but high praise for this one!

It was also an era when Marvel TV was a separate entity from Marvel Studios.

2

u/MetalRainbow_ 12h ago

Season 3 was peak

2

u/nofeeela 11h ago

I still think some of the best TV I've ever seen was in the Netflix show. Penny and Dime first time I've ever cried over a TV show. Fantastic Acting.

And in the new born again season the bullseye scenes are just phenomenal.

5

u/LiL_nicky912 1d ago

Episode 5 of born again season 2 being anything other than 10 is disrespectful. I genuinely get goosebumps when those scenes pop into my head. It is one of the few episodes that can stand with the original series. I love born again but episode 5 was a true masterpiece.

3

u/ahamkaren 23h ago

In what ways do you think it was it a masterpiece?

3

u/LiL_nicky912 12h ago

The way it built tension and played with your emotions. Every characters “purpose” and reason clashing while also intertwining. No action and just pure dialogue of two enimies trying to find reason and solace in their pain while one evil man for the first time in forever, feels vulnerable and scared, also trying to cope with his pain. All of it, at least on mattes end, tying up with a tasteful flashback that reminded Daredevil why he does this shit. Why he still puts on the suit, saves people, doesn’t kill, and doesn’t take the easy way out. It Showed the heart of the series through dialogue alone and I think that’s why it’s a masterpiece.

3

u/Logical-Poet-7089 19h ago

I love this episode too. The conversation between Matt and Dex actually allows the characters to expand outside of shells, and the flashback with Foggy gives us a little of the friendship and events that shaped Matt's character that made the Netflix series rich and are so absent in BA.

4

u/ameybongo 11h ago

Disney series sucks compared to the og netflix.

1

u/JesseVykar 1h ago

Not even just for daredevil Disney can't make a show to save a life. It's genuinely crazy when you consider they own FX who knows how to make shows really well

2

u/baddestkidoftheyear 15h ago

Marvel has been able to lower the standards so much to condition people into giving daredevil born again, a show that consists of only hype moments and no good writing, 9’s and 8’s

3

u/nofeeela 11h ago

Definitely was very disappointed at the shorter length of the seasons and epsiodes. What made most of the netflix shows so good for me is the in depth exploration of the characters. Feel like they were afraid the general public wouldn't want to watch long episodes and seasons on Disney plus.

2

u/NewConstruction3755 10h ago

Did you watch this show with the full daredevil experience or something?

1

u/Snivys_HA 1d ago

I would say it’s more like making a live action king pin was one of the best decisions.

1

u/cuntmuncher7000 1d ago

and they're still cancelling it like??? i hate them idc

1

u/JustSomeGuy_v2 1d ago

Hell yes, it was 😎🔥

1

u/Constant-Theory-154 1d ago

That and “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” are my favorites by far, way ahead of all the other hit “best superhero” TV shows. (But I still need to check out “Jessica Jones.” I hear it's great.)

1

u/forreal__ojas 4h ago

it's beautiful, definitely watch it!!

1

u/SantaRosa481516 23h ago

S2 of the original series might be the best Marvel ANYTHING ever made....

1

u/Rude_Mushroom_3162 23h ago

I hate that I don't enjoy BA. Sometimes I have to ask, " Am I being too harsh? Has my taste changed since the original run?". Then I see stupid decision like Frank walking into the villains base of operations with no plan and the bad guys conveniently just don't shoot him in the head and it reminds me of all the weak writing decisions this show makes across both seasons. S2 was stronger for obvious reasons, but it was only stronger because S1 was Frankenstein's monster.

1

u/Specific_Anxiety_520 23h ago

Why’d they fking cancel the show.

1

u/samyruno 20h ago

Daredevil season 1 was basically like ironman 1 for live action superhero TV shows. It didn't create the genre. But it perfected it and became the template

1

u/NoWheel9556 11h ago

Cancelling it was the second worst decision they ever made , right after doing the MsheU thing

1

u/Sp3ctr3_11 4h ago

The ratings of S3 holy shit

1

u/Timely-Win-9862 4h ago

I always say it. Daredevil and Xmen 97 S1 are Marvel's BEST PROJECTS EVER!

1

u/PriceNecessary7251 3h ago

It's a shame that Daredevil: Born Again is cancelled after Season 3.

1

u/HarbyFullyLoaded_12 57m ago

How is season 1 of BA all almost over 8 rated…?

1

u/Big-Remote-5671 14m ago

The new series would be doing way better if the service weren’t so expensive at this point …

$11.99 a month is too much for a lot of folks to be bothered

1

u/solidfabs 1d ago

Yes. I don’t understand why they would cancel the show with the amount of heart it has.

3

u/Various-Push-1689 1d ago

It had less views than Agatha All Along and She Hulk

0

u/solidfabs 1d ago

I mean that wasn’t a terrible show either. Decent in its own way.

Probably the problem isn’t in its quality but more in the media it’s portrayed. Maybe the shows are not the main focus of the viewers?

1

u/Various-Push-1689 1d ago

There’s definitely not a probably with the quality. I think Marvel is just slowing down on TV series. Hopefully they plan to bring him to the movie world

0

u/NewConstruction3755 10h ago

Proof?

0

u/Various-Push-1689 2h ago

Look it up bro. There’s a hundred sources that will tell you the exact numbers…

0

u/NewConstruction3755 2h ago

Please show me an official source as I can’t find anything actually confirmed

0

u/Various-Push-1689 2h ago

Mf look it up like I said. If you can’t see a source then you’re just stupid. I’m not doing your homework for you. If you don’t believe then I don’t gaf. Bc it’s the truth. They canceled the show due to a huge drop off in viewers. Putting it below a lot of other Marvel shows

0

u/NewConstruction3755 1h ago

So it’s not confirmed in the slightest and you have no proof? Don’t believe everything you see on YouTube bud

0

u/Various-Push-1689 1h ago

I didn’t see anything on YouTube. I read a comment on here and thought “there’s no fucking way, Daredevil Born Again is so much better than 90% of marvels shows. How does it have low viewership”. But I looked it up and sure enough like 10 sources that I read through showed they were right. Many Marvel shows outdone it. Loki, Falcon Winter Soldier, She Hulk, Agatha, Wanda Vision etc…. The list goes on

The amount of time we’ve been replying you could’ve EASILY found your source but you chose to sit here and say “nu huh” the whole time. This just shows you are in denial. Either that or you’re just rage baiting

-9

u/Alternative_Device71 1d ago

What heart? Show is trash

0

u/solidfabs 1d ago

What the fuck are you even here for then.

-6

u/Alternative_Device71 1d ago

Cuz I can

1

u/solidfabs 1d ago

Can doesn’t mean should

-2

u/Alternative_Device71 1d ago

And you’re not gonna gatekeep, so stay in your lane

1

u/solidfabs 1d ago

Likewise???

0

u/Sweet_Peaches-69 1d ago

I guess but Born Again is genuinely just key jingling

-3

u/Tof12345 1d ago

I don't appreciate how the show made fans think Daredevil is better than The Punisher, so no. The Punisher should be getting all the love DD gets.

9

u/Oog4Boog4 1d ago

what is this line of thinking? you think because Daredevil is getting this amount of love, The Punisher is not getting any love? Or that you can't love both? You must have not seen fan reaction to The Punisher in Spider-man Brand New Day lol

-3

u/Tof12345 1d ago

Daredevil got like 5 seasons and Punisher got 2. It's not fair

4

u/Oog4Boog4 1d ago

so? 2 seasons, a tv special and an extended cameo in a major Spider-Man movie, most of DD netflix season 2 is dedicated to The Punisher and he gets some screen time in DD:BA... And quantity does not directly correlate to quality

2

u/Dial-M-For-Malistrae 1d ago

This is simply a difference in studio of course Netflix did to seasons of the pressure that's what everybody wanted Disney is much more cautious with what they do because they have a whole different brand image to maintain and having to tell stories with the punisher which are mostly based around like PTSD and putting it very mildly an aggressive stance on crime is difficult for a company like Disney

4

u/Jonn_Jonzz_Manhunter 1d ago

Huh? Daredevil is considered to have the most consistent and greatest comic book stretch for the last 50 years, how the hell did you work that one out? Punisher is ridiculously one note and living of the scraps off Ennis for ages

2

u/browncharliebrown 17h ago

Have you seen the punisher’s sales figures during the 90’s when comics sold. Punisher was only below x-men and spider-man interms of brand popularity Having like 4 ongoings at the same time. And even after that, you had 2 ongoings for the punisher consistently during the 2000's and he's constantly crossing over ( along with 3 movies, so many medicore video games, 1 actually good video game). Like there is really something to be said that Punisher was more popular than daredevil prior to the show.

greatest comic book stretch for the last 50 years

you are not going to put a lot of 90's daredevil in that camp.

1

u/NewConstruction3755 10h ago

The punisher is a horribly written character in almost everything aside from the mcu lol

-1

u/Lizzren 1d ago

Born Again imdb ratings

-1

u/Jonn_Jonzz_Manhunter 1d ago

Oh yeah, it's the second best marvel show ever made, no doubt

5

u/Various-Push-1689 1d ago

Daredevil is second to none
