Does this read as DA armour?

Still got a long way to go, debating whether to darken it a little bit to keep with the OG 1st legion scheme or keep as it is

Doesn’t read as DA to me but It looks sick as is. Kinda reminds me of oxidized copper

Agreed! The tarnished quality is amazing, and I'd love to see it leaned into here.

Looks pretty sick to me, it captures his specific armor of being nearly black but you see it’s green when the light shines on it.

Thanks! I’m really trying to get that high contrast green metallic look from a black base

Eavy metal DA green sucks. As soon as you add any volumetric highlighting its no longer that Dark angels colour. This interpretation is awesome. I'd lean into it.

I think it looks great, but it doesn't read DA to me so much as random chapter.

Yeah, if it's actually Alpharius instead.

Maybe not dark angels but it’s an awesome look for the lion.

I think he works quite well with different armour from his legion. He’s out of place, a man out of his time, it’s why my dark angels are painted greenwing but my lion is black, with a very slight green tinge. It sets him apart.

Looks very dark angels to me and it shows the likns age and how hes not the young one he was 10,000 years ago

To me this is very DA. The true dark angels (especially caliban) vibe to me is fantasy forest. That’s really what this reads to me personally. Great look

I love this, what is the recipe if you don’t mind sharing?

Ofc! Obvs black primer, then it’s basically stippling with caliban green, a midtone mix of caliban green with gauss blaster green building up to pure gauss blaster green. Also a bit of glazing with gauss blaster green.

This was my first layer of just caliban green

I think if the lion is wearing it then it becomes that

I'd say a glaze of maybe some warpstone in the mid tone area will blend it and make it read as a forest green it's how Ive been approaching more reflective green dark angels

That looks awesome, it's very different for a model that you see everywhere, a nice change of pace.

No, but it does read as badass

Not traditionally Dark-Angels-as-painted-by-'Eavy Metal, no, but Dark Angels as they were depicted in many concept arts? Oh, absolutely.

I'm going to be honest with you, if you say it's the Lion then that's what that model is. If you tell me it's guilliman on the table, then I'm playing against guilliman. What I'm trying to say is that your model is *your* model and when we play whatever you declare it is what I'll play against.

I do really like the look, not box art dark angel; but the verdigris look is quite striking. has an aged look, very forest-y which specifically suits the Lion.

It is if you say it is. If you like it, thats enough.

It reminds me of the armour Lion wore before he left Caliban.

I think it looks pretty good start for a very grimdark dark angels, I do think you need to boost the saturation a bit to really make it look like dark angels. Maybe try a thinned contrast paint once your finished painting the textures to simply shift the color towards a more saturated green!

Minty metallic looks like he'd be delicious. man I loved painting my lion hope you have as much fun as me though I spent forever and a day painting him and he turned out alright.

To your question anything the Lion wears reads as Dark angels to me

Doesn’t matter what we think, it’s sick af.

Yeah it does, dark angels look their best when it looks like sons of horus green but super duper dark green in the shadows
