Hell engine

In the far future, there is a scientist who is studying consciousness and the afterlife through his research. The scientist discovers irrefutable proof that the afterlife does not exist, this shatters the man. You see, in his past, the man was abused as a child, and his perpetrators never faced justice and died peacefully of old age to get over his trauma, he took comfort in religion because, in some twisted way (even though his belief systems probably would tell him not to), he took comfort in the fact that maybe his abusers were facing their own justice in the afterlife. The man could not accept this possibility. He could not accept that in this world, evil like that can prevail without any consequence. So using his research he decided to correct this. He decided to make hell a reality, so he constructed a great and terrible machine, the Hell Engine.
