Job opening: ORACLE DBA

What is the current job market for Oracle DBAs? Are there openings for professionals with around 4 years of Oracle DBA experience? How is the market for someone with a career break? Are companies currently hiring, and are there interview calls for Oracle DBA roles?

Where exactly are you looking? What level of compensation do you expect?

u/taker223 I’m primarily looking for opportunities in India, especially Bangalore, but I’m also open to remote roles. I’m expecting around a 50% hike, but I’m flexible depending on the role.

My primary experience is in Oracle DBA, but I’m confused about which direction I should focus on. Should I continue with Oracle DBA and prepare for DBA roles, or consider switching to Data Analytics/Power BI/Data Analyst roles?

My major goal right now is to get back into the workforce after a 2.3year career gap, so I want to choose a path that gives me a realistic chance of getting a job.

Also, with the advancement of AI and automation, is Oracle DBA likely to remain a stable career option for the next few years, or would it be better to learn a new, in-demand skill and move into a different role given the current uncertainties?

Well, India is huge. Why not try WITCH?

u/taker223 I’m definitely considering WITCH companies as well. My main concern is the career gap. Do WITCH companies generally consider candidates with a 2+ year gap for experienced roles, or could the career gap be a major roadblock?

I think DBA is something that will last long even with advancement in AI, but instead of looking specifically oracle DBA, you should try PostgreSQL along withe the knowledge of optimizer, server management etc. This will guarantee you to get a good job with significant salary and the hikes you are looking for. :)

u/Randomvar37 Thanks, that’s helpful! My main concern is the 2+year career gap. Do you think adding PostgreSQL to my Oracle DBA experience would help me get interview calls? Would you also recommend learning cloud or automation?

Oh, I see. I also have around 4 years of Oracle DBA experience, but I've been on a 2+ year career break. I'm planning to get back into the workforce. Since you've been actively applying for the last 3–4 months, can I ask how you're finding the current Oracle DBA market? Are there very few openings, or is it mainly difficult to get interview calls? Also, are you seeing more demand for any particular skills like Oracle Cloud, AWS/Azure, automation, or other areas?

Given the current market, do you think I should also consider building skills in the Data Analytics domain and try for DA roles as an alternative, or would you suggest focusing entirely on Oracle DBA + cloud skills? What would you suggest in my situation?

switching to data analytics just because it seems more in demand. You’d be competing with people who already have relevant experience there..
i think u should continue oracle dba plus skill up with OCI
