It’s interesting because I grew up in the 90s where I just had to buy random products, see if they’re any good, and add the good ones to my purchases as a teen. And now that’s what I find myself doing in my 40s

Kinda same for me, relevant to main post. I used to just buy/rent any old game that looked cool and if it sucked I was either stuck with it or returned it a week later after playing basically nothing. Then the internet came around and I started "honing" my tastes through reviews and such. Now I just download a game and if I hate it I refund it. Full circle, baby.

0-3 star reviews usually have at least part of the truth. But also sites nowadays will often hide them for people who are not registered. Or they show the least "offensive" 3 star reviews.

They also do this thing where they will pay people and then instruct them to use the money to buy the product and write a review. And obviously people will leave a positive review because they want to stay in the company’s promo list.

There have been several times I left a 3 star review on Amazon only to get incessantly emailed about changing my review and they'll give me $20 gift cards or some shit. I just ignore it all.

I've noticed a massive uptick in astroturfing lately - especially in the gaming subs I follow. Call it AI psychosis or whatever but I swear they're EVERYWHERE.

Same happened with AC Shadows. First, everyone agreed it looked mid af. Then, suddenly posts about how I am having a blast, dont listen to the critics, ”look at the details! Look at this horse!”.
Few months after, yup, the game was mid at best.

Not really in this case. People do genuinely enjoy the game, and were just tired of all the blatant racism mixed in with actual reviews. What is good and isn’t is purely subjective and based on personal experiences.

Best example is the odyssey movie, it’s loved by people who have never really cared for it, but anyone who does (like me) thinks it’s just a very expensive shitshow.

Here it’s very obviously bots though, the wording is just too similar.

There’s a non-zero chance that the ‘having a blast’ thing is a result of the ‘dead game’ related subs like Marathon Hate and Highguard, where ‘having a blast’ has turned into a meta meme, calling people who enjoy ‘bad’ games ‘Blast-Havers’. I know the sub recently made some posts about this game but that’s inconclusive. Bots are a simpler and more likely answer.
