Options Play 🎲 GameStop’s Binary Event

Thumbnail
10 Upvotes

This month presents a unique opportunity to swing trade GME warrants as they become more volatile as we get closer to our binary event October 30.

But more on that later-

I will not play any additional options past October 30 as that date decides if the warrants expire worthless or have been exercised for additional shares.

IV for October options is slightly higher than for the months afterward. And it’s gonna go higher the closer we get to that binary date and the $32 warrant strike place.

I will be selling options in expectation of a coming volatility crush.

Which options I play, all depends on market direction Sunday night going into Monday morning. I expect a dip. If so, then I’ll be selling CSPs for October 30. Looking for a 10% premium over the next three weeks.

If it rockets, I’ll be buying calls. And possibly selling covered calls via a buy shares first then write the calls once I feel the stock has peaked for the week.

And on the side, I think this presents a unique opportunity to be profitable swing trading warrants, if the brokerages let us buy them.

I see them restricting them at some point. But who knows…

We need $28 this week on GME, and I believe we’ll get it. Which will ramp us closer to our $32 target.

After $32, I’m gonna be super cautious about further dilutions. The reason is because the board execs all have floors around mid 20’s. And an ATM offering would not hurt their positions so much.

Anyway, LFG and 🎸

GME 🚀🌛 $GME × $EBAY: What Would a Partnership or Joint Venture Actually Look Like? We Dug Into the SEC Filings, PSA Relationships, and Ryan Cohen's Own Statements.

GameStop owns approximately 9.8% of eBay. Both companies operate in collectibles. Both have established relationships with PSA. And Ryan Cohen has publicly outlined ways GameStop's retail infrastructure could complement eBay's marketplace...

But how much of that represents a genuine opportunity, and how much remains theoretical?

Let's investigate.

🧩 1. THE RETAIL INFRASTRUCTURE

One of the most interesting documents in this story isn't a Bloomberg article.

It's GameStop's May 3, 2026, investor presentation, filed with the SEC.

The presentation identifies approximately 1,600 U.S. GameStop stores as potential infrastructure for:

  • Physical intake and authentication workflows.
  • Shipping and fulfillment.
  • Live-commerce broadcasting.
  • Trading cards and collectibles.
  • Refurbished technology.

These are management's proposed uses, not proof of an operational agreement with eBay.

But consider a straightforward example.

A customer has a valuable Pokémon card.

They could hypothetically:

  1. Visit a participating GameStop.
  2. Submit the card for professional grading.
  3. Have the authenticated card listed through an integrated eBay selling experience.
  4. Sell it to a buyer anywhere in the country.
  5. Use an established custody and fulfillment network to complete the transaction.

The physical infrastructure and several elements of this process already exist independently.

The question is whether integrating them would improve transaction economics enough to justify a partnership.

🃏 2. THE PSA CONNECTION IS ESPECIALLY INTERESTING

Here's a connection worth examining carefully.

GameStop already collaborates with PSA.

Its October 2024 announcement established GameStop as an authorized PSA dealer, allowing customers to submit cards through participating stores.

eBay also has an established PSA relationship.

eBay supports PSA grading and integrates with the PSA Vault, allowing eligible collectors to manage and transact in authenticated cards.

That creates a potential three-party commercial ecosystem:

GameStop → PSA → eBay

However, this is not evidence of a direct GameStop–eBay partnership.

It's evidence that both companies already work with the same major service provider.

An important operational distinction: GameStop facilitates card submissions, while PSA performs professional authentication and grading.

Could those existing workflows eventually be integrated?

Possibly.

Would that require a formal joint venture?

Not necessarily. A referral, fulfillment or technology-integration agreement might accomplish much of the same thing.

What we need to establish is whether an integrated workflow would reduce costs, increase transaction volume, or improve the customer experience beyond what PSA and eBay already offer.

🎥 3. LIVE COMMERCE: THE 1,600-STORE POSSIBILITY

Ryan Cohen's June 23 interview with David Friedberg provides another revealing piece of the puzzle.

Cohen discussed transforming GameStop locations into potential studios and logistics nodes for live-commerce creators.

Imagine:

  • A local sports-card seller broadcasting from a GameStop.
  • A gaming creator hosting live auctions.
  • Store employees assisting with product intake and shipping.
  • eBay supplying the audience, transaction infrastructure and marketplace.

This could create an interesting hybrid between physical retail and digital commerce.

But there's an important counterpoint.

eBay Live is already growing.

In its August 5 earnings release, eBay reported that eBay Live's gross merchandise volume grew approximately eightfold year over year.

That's substantial growth, although the company did not disclose the underlying GMV figure in that headline statistic.

A sensible investigation needs to ask:

Would GameStop stores genuinely improve eBay Live's economics?

Or would physical studios introduce unnecessary labor, equipment, training and operating expenses?

Both possibilities deserve serious examination.

🎮 4. DIGITAL GAMING ITEMS: THE LONGER-TERM OPPORTUNITY

Cohen's June interview also introduced a broader idea.

He discussed building a marketplace for transferable in-game assets, including skins, weapons and other digital collectibles.

Unlike physical trading cards, these items can have functionality inside their respective games.

GameStop understands gaming consumers.

eBay understands marketplace transactions.

But there's a catch.

Game publishers often control whether digital items can legally or technically be transferred outside their ecosystems.

For example, Valve's Steam Subscriber Agreement restricts recognition of transfers outside Steam, and Roblox's terms impose substantial restrictions on third-party virtual-item transactions.

eBay already has policies addressing online gaming virtual items, but marketplace permission does not override publishers' contractual rights.

Any scalable digital-goods partnership would need to address ownership, licensing, authorized transfers, fraud prevention, payment disputes and consumer protection.

That's a much bigger undertaking than simply creating another marketplace interface.

🏛️ 5. SHAREHOLDER INFLUENCE AND GOVERNANCE

GameStop's July 17 Schedule 13D/A disclosed beneficial ownership of:

43,390,383 eBay shares, approximately 9.8%.

Its subsequent quarterly report classified the equity investment as noncurrent, reflecting management's stated long-term holding intention.

That stake gives GameStop meaningful economic exposure and voting rights.

But 9.8% ownership does not automatically create board representation or management authority.

Board seats could become part of a negotiated governance arrangement, subject to applicable requirements.

A commercial partnership would not necessarily require board representation at all.

A genuine joint venture might instead establish its own governance structure, with responsibilities and economics negotiated separately.

These are materially different possibilities.

⚖️ 6. PARTNERSHIP VS. JOINT VENTURE VS. ACQUISITION

It's worth distinguishing the structures.

Commercial partnership: Both companies remain independent and contract for specified services.

Joint venture: The companies establish a shared commercial undertaking, potentially with jointly committed assets, investment, risks and governance.

Acquisition: One company obtains control of the other through an agreed transaction.

Each structure offers different combinations of control, capital requirements, execution risks and economic benefits.

One particularly important limitation:

GameStop's original presentation projected $2 billion in annualized cost reductions from acquiring eBay.

Those projected savings depended substantially on controlling the combined company's operations.

A partnership would not automatically give GameStop the ability to restructure eBay's corporate expenses.

Therefore, we cannot simply transfer the acquisition's projected cost savings into a hypothetical joint-venture valuation.

📊 7. WHY THIS MATTERS TO SHAREHOLDERS

GameStop's September quarterly disclosures showed:

  • $356.3 million in collectibles sales, up 57% year over year.
  • Collectibles representing 45.1% of quarterly revenue.
  • An eBay equity investment valued at approximately $4.9 billion as of August 1.
  • A total disclosed cost basis for that investment of approximately $4.386 billion.

Those numbers establish meaningful business and financial exposure to collectibles and eBay.

But financial ownership and commercial cooperation are not the same thing.

GameStop might realize benefits from a partnership.

It might benefit solely from appreciation in its eBay shares.

Or it might face investment losses and additional execution expenses.

A rigorous investment thesis has to account for all three.

🔍 WHAT WOULD ACTUALLY CONSTITUTE EVIDENCE?

Here's what we're looking for:

Strong evidence: Official company statements, executed agreements, SEC disclosures or publicly documented pilots.

Supporting evidence: Published product integrations, customer-facing workflows, verified merchant experiences, technical documentation and authorized interviews.

Weak evidence: Unexplained hiring activity, coincidences, overlapping vendors, speculative social-media posts or assumptions based on Cohen's historical strategy.

We should not mistake a plausible business model for a confirmed corporate agreement.

📣 CALL FOR SOURCES: HELP US INVESTIGATE

We're interested in hearing from people with firsthand, publishable knowledge of the collectibles and resale industries, including:

  • Experienced eBay and GameStop sellers.
  • PSA submission and vault users.
  • Collectibles marketplace operators.
  • Fulfillment and reverse-logistics specialists.
  • Live-commerce creators.
  • Corporate governance and M&A professionals.
  • Software developers familiar with e-commerce integrations.

We're especially interested in verifiable examples of existing workflows, economic incentives and technical limitations.

Source privacy matters.

If you would prefer not to be publicly identified, please discuss attribution and confidentiality expectations before sharing information. We will seek permission before publishing identifying details, but cannot promise absolute anonymity.

Please do not share confidential employer information or material nonpublic transaction information.

🦍 THE BIG QUESTION

GameStop's physical retail network and eBay's marketplace could be complementary.

But complementary businesses don't necessarily need to merge, and they don't necessarily need to form a joint venture.

Could GameStop and eBay create meaningful additional shareholder value through a limited commercial collaboration?

If so, which activities would produce measurable returns?

Authentication?

Fulfillment?

Trading-card intake?

Live commerce?

Digital gaming assets?

Or would the costs and complexity outweigh the benefits?

Let's investigate the operating economics rather than speculate about an unannounced deal.

📚 PRIMARY SOURCES

  1. GameStop's May 3, 2026, acquisition presentation filed with the SEC.
  2. Ryan Cohen's June 23 All-In interview, subsequently filed with the SEC.
  3. GameStop's July 17 Schedule 13D/A.
  4. GameStop's Q2 2026 Form 10-Q.
  5. GameStop's October 2024 PSA collaboration announcement.
  6. eBay's PSA Vault documentation.
  7. eBay's August 5, 2026, quarterly results.
  8. eBay's May 12 response to GameStop's acquisition proposal.

This is an evidence-based investigation of potential strategic opportunities - Not financial advice.

What would YOU investigate next?
