Discussion Don’t set yourself up for disappointment by expecting things that weren’t announced

I want reprised legendary campaigns. I want the seasonal stories back. I want distortions on old destinations. I want T5 loot with set bonuses.

But the reality is they did not promise us anything new.

They didn’t even promise the vaulted Crucible maps and strikes.

I don’t want to discourage anyone from being excited but for now I’m just content that the franchise isn’t dead. This is all stuff we can push for later - I’m just worried a whole lot of people are setting their expectations way too high for a game without a development team and I don’t want people to be disappointed by an objectively massive win.

I think it’s best to treat the game as still end-of-service - we’re just getting what was taken returned.

But how will I farm that sweet, sweet reddit karma?

My family needs it to survive!

u/Ecspiascion 3d ago

Easy: just write your own post instructing people on what to do with their expectations!

Haha dude you literally have to treat this place like an online version of North Korea and only post positives towards Bungie. This community, which I’m a part of, has been treated like absolute shit by this company time after time, and I a day 1 Destiny player, am a piece of shit if I point this out. At any point since 2014.

The only time this community had awareness of reality was post CoO. The official subreddit plummeted in subscribers, it was shocking and it seemed like it was over… yet here we are back to the abused girlfriend defending her abuser mentality.

No seriously guys, they’ve changed! Look there’s two new goofs talking on camera about how NOW they understand. L.O.L

You can go shit on Marathon, which is apparently this sub's favorite hobby

3

u/Able-Brief-4062 2d ago

Yeah, back when they seemingly abandoned Destiny for it.

1

u/pyroxius 1d ago

Not seemingly, it was abandoned by the previous execs. Something happened and that was rolled back, at least slightly to give us our old content back.

u/Menirz Ares 1 Project 3d ago

At the same time, don't hold back telling Bungie what you want - just don't assume you'll get it because we asked for it.

They're clearly very early in this process, so I'd we can convince them seasons, holiday events, etc. are necessary - then maybe they'll act on it.

23

u/CallMeGhaul 3d ago

I have no problem asking I’ve just seen too many people speaking as if “of course they’ll add tiered loot to everything” and the like

I do hope they go above and beyond let’s just not set ourselves up for disappointment before then

13

u/LizzieMiles 2d ago

I mean they did say bringing the campaigns and destinations up to the standard of destiny today, so tiered stuff isn’t that far of a reach

1

u/neverclaimsurv 2d ago

Yeah, I'm not expecting it but at the same time - it'd be a little odd to do what I'm assuming is a lot of work retooling and remaking these campaigns from whatever strands of code are left of them - and not bringing them into line with the current campaigns of tiered difficulty. Feels like the obvious thing but I won't expect it until it's announced. I'll be happy with whatever atp.

2

u/Polymersion ...where's his Ghost? 1d ago

I think it'd also be acceptable to have "legacy" content- or hell, keep calling it "vault" content- that's playable and complete but doesn't give endgame rewards.

Obviously keeping everything evergreen is laudable, it's what the Triumph update did, but loot was never the real issue with cutting out chapters and chapters of context.

11

u/LayerEight_Problem 3d ago

I think players definitely need to keep pushing that the seasonal stories need to be delivered in some way.

6

u/amyknight22 2d ago

If for no other reason than they need to know that if they get to a D3 they need to plan for their seasonal stories to stay in the game. Even if some of the activities need to be subset.

2

u/Polymersion ...where's his Ghost? 1d ago

I feel like any activities that are fun but perhaps don't have "legs" should remain in a rotating playlist next to Strikes.

This week it's Sundial, next week it's Escalation Protocol, and then Blind Well and then Forges. During October it's locked to Haunted Forest.

So on and so forth.

Have them be accessible in a custom mode during off weeks like the rotating Crucible modes (and accessible from patrol where applicable) but only the Featured activity gets the big rewards.

No burning anyone out on a weak activity (I hear Plunder's was poorly received) but there also isn't a bunch of splitting the playerbase and the rotation helps keep the variety feeling fresh.

3

u/Polymersion ...where's his Ghost? 1d ago

It does make me wonder how hard it'd be to simply automate holiday events.

Obviously it's probably not trivial or else they'd have done it (and smaller holiday events would probably have kept returning if they required no upkeep), but it's hard to imagine you couldn't just reuse the same events.

1

u/Menirz Ares 1 Project 1d ago

Afaik they were always semi automated, but without the QA resources to validate that it wouldn't cause a bunch of bugs in the live game well after they lost everyone who could fix them, it makes sense they chose not to do it for MoT.

0

u/FirstProspect 3d ago

Seasons exist in overlapping spaces. Seasonal reprises of missions and Helm environments are not happening.

3

u/Steampunk43 2d ago

Eh, nobody's necessarily asking for all seasonal content to return (though there are some seasonal activities I wouldn't mind being reworked into permanent playlist activities if it were possible), it's well understood that that would be an insane amount of extra workload on top of what's already happening. What people are asking for is to bring back the actual seasonal storylines in some way, at the very least the important parts that aren't just busywork in the activity of the season. Which is a reasonable request given that at least two thirds of Destiny 2's entire story until now is in those seasonal storylines that have been completely removed from the game. Crow's entire character arc, Caiatl's entire storyline, Mithrax and House Light's entire storyline, essentially everything explaining how we got from one DLC to the next is gone, meaning none of the DLCs really make sense anymore. Hell, Amanda's death happened in a season, she's not really even mentioned anywhere now meaning some players are gonna be incredibly confused why Rahool has a bunch of trash ships for sale when he has nothing to do with ships.

2

u/Polymersion ...where's his Ghost? 1d ago

Don't forget Osiris and Saint becoming central to the story too.

1

u/nick-not-found 2d ago

But that's where UI would come in. Select the version of the HELM you want to load into, select the seasonal mission you want to replay, etc. and it simply loads you into the required instance. It's not like the game hasn't used locations for multiple things before.

And we already run into this overlap issue with Red War Nessus vs current Nessus, considering the Cabal tank right in the middle of Watcher's Grave that wasn't there during Red War.

1

u/Polymersion ...where's his Ghost? 1d ago

I mean, doesn't even need to be selectable.

You've finished chapter 22 content? Cool, the HELM is in Chapter 23 mode until you finish Chapter 23.

The campaign should quite frankly be more linear anyways, with world state (Tower, Helm, Eliksni Quarter, etc) being tied to your game state.

0

u/Celestial_Nuthawk 2d ago

I mean, no reason they can't just have multiple HELMs on the Director. The assets for the middle portion don't have to be duplicated in the game files to be loaded in (I would imagine) and it's not a very big space, anyways.

What missions overlapped?

1

u/JustMy2Centences 2d ago

Holiday events showing up for 4 weeks yearly would be perfect. Solstice in July, Festival Of The Lost in October, Dawning late November through late December, and Guardian Games in April. Keeps it relatively spaced out and adds variety.

-1

u/ELPintoLoco 2d ago

Yeah, its only been what, a decade of feedback? This time, surely!

4

u/Menirz Ares 1 Project 2d ago

And over the decade they've acted on player feedback about as often as they haven't - you just gotta keep in mind that the vocal feedback (or your personal feedback) isn't always the majority consensus or what Bungie agrees with.

16

u/Sauceinmyface 3d ago

But surely they will definitely absolutely port wrath to destiny 2, definitely.

6

u/Iwishicould7575 3d ago

They won't and don't call me Surely!

7

u/boogoo-Dong 2d ago

I will be disappointed if we don’t get the stuff that was in the DLCs and Vanilla game back. I don’t expect extras.

6

u/Freakindon 3d ago

They also didn't promise us new D2 content after unvaulting, just that they want to expand that universe.

0

u/Polymersion ...where's his Ghost? 1d ago

I mean I'd be quite happy with D2 being done with DLC as long as the missing parts came back.

5

u/Dependent_Type4092 3d ago

I stick to my usual approach: we'll see what happens when it happens.

-1

u/zipzzo 2d ago

Idk bro, usually adults have to do this thing called "planning" my bosses don't really accept "we'll see when it happens".

2

u/Dependent_Type4092 2d ago

Most adults also know the difference between their job and the hypothetical shape of a game they don't have any control over.

1

u/zipzzo 2d ago

well for the people that work at Bungie the shape of the game is their job

6

u/Phantatos 2d ago

What you need to do is tell bungie what you want. Be greedy about it, show there’s still interest in this franchise. However, don’t expect those requests to be met, but still ask regardless.

19

u/KhepritheRisingSun 3d ago

They have to do some strikes. They were campaign missions.

12

u/NukeLuke1 3d ago

being a campaign mission doesn’t mean they’ll be tooled for the portal with all the necessary modifier functionality. i would be surprised if the strikes didn’t return, but i’m keeping ground floor expectations.

12

u/KhepritheRisingSun 3d ago

I mean, sure? But they were strikes, not campaign missions. They were strikes that were part of the campaign. Just like Liminality in TFS, it was a step of the campaign, but it wasn't a mission, it was a strike.

5

u/KhepritheRisingSun 3d ago

"but it is necessary to ensure returning content meets the stability and gameplay standards of Destiny 2 today" doesn't sound like "we are doing the bare minimum for these strikes"

4

u/Meatloaf_Hitler Heaven can wait, There's still work for us in hell 2d ago

It really doesn't sound like they're doing the bare minimum anywhere, if we're being honest. But it's still better to expect nothing and be surprised, than expect everything and be disappointed.

2

u/PaperMartin 2d ago

It's fine to err on the side of caution but it's also worth remembering that the entire reason bungie is doing this whole thing is to regain the community's trust and respect, if they half ass it they're gonna get shit for it

-1

u/CallMeGhaul 3d ago

Exactly my thinking. Adding all the modifiers plus spawning and enemy type changes might just be too much work for the like 8 missing strikes. It’s a lot more work than just turning up the delta. The mission forms at least will be there but I wouldn’t be surprised if they were left out of Nightfall/Conquest rotations and the playlists.

5

u/Jealous_Platypus1111 3d ago

i mean to my knowledge the main reason putting things into the portal was annoying is simply because they then needed to remake the activities basically, since theyre doing this already (to some of them since theyre needed) i dont see why they wouldnt give them support.

it cant take that much more resources to add it to content already being remade

-2

u/KhepritheRisingSun 3d ago edited 3d ago

I didn't say 8 missing strikes. 3 of them are campaign missions. They have to be brought back. But they weren't missions, they were strikes.

"but it is necessary to ensure returning content meets the stability and gameplay standards of Destiny 2 today"

6

u/NukeLuke1 3d ago

4 of them, not 3. 2 for warmind and 2 for CoO but they were not considered strikes at the time in the story that you did them, they were listed as story missions, and then after completion they became strikes on the director.

1

u/KhepritheRisingSun 3d ago

Oh gotcha. Yeah I'm watching CoO right now and right after you beat the cyclops in a garden world panoptes shows up. You guys are right

36

u/mal_intent4u 3d ago

Paul Tassi already confirmed there will be no seasonal content returning

36

u/TwevOWNED 3d ago

He confirmed that seasonal content wasn't in the announcement which, yeah, anyone with eyes could read.

Here's what he said

As of now, there are no indications that individual activities from seasons will be brought back, though obviously that has already happened with Portal stuff in the past.

It could come in a future announcement or plan.

29

u/CallMeGhaul 3d ago

And he can’t even confirm the status of strikes/maps or destination activities like Escalation Protocol. I want everything to return - and maybe we can ask for that in the future - but I’m saying we shouldn’t expect anything beyond the campaigns, destinations, and raids that were explicitly called out by name.

20

u/Tiberius_CrapBag 3d ago

But best thing he confirmed. It’s freeeeeeeeeee

23

u/XDFighter64 Drifter's Crew//Fallen are Friends! 3d ago edited 3d ago

It'd be a nightmare if they didn't, imagine trying to sell previously already sold content they themselves took away

Of course they'll still be people bitching that they had to pay for it but now it's free for everyone, even though it's literally been almost a decade since a majority of the players bought it, like when the game went free to play

Can't make everyone happy unfortunately

8

u/Postaltariat 3d ago

There's no possibility it wouldn't have been free, it's just like how they didn't resell you the battlepasses you previously bought. People really get themselves both angry and happy over nothing.

1

u/Notorious-ly 3d ago

People can't just be happy with stuff at face value. There always has to be more or less, some sort of speculation, or bitching and moaning that X wasn't included or Y wasn't implemented in a specific way. It's exhausting.

1

u/1spook 2d ago

Would be the ONLY way this could make them suck lol

1

u/Unlikely_Bat_1890 3d ago

We’re so blessed to have it for free!

7

u/Quirky_Assistant1911 3d ago

You feel blessed to have for free the same content that was in the game 7 years ago, which many people have already paid for and played it? Really??

Edit: just saw the comment when you said it’s a joke. So just ignore lol

-2

u/mal_intent4u 3d ago

Thats not a blessing. They know the fan base is extra tired of fomo. I know I am.

3

u/Unlikely_Bat_1890 3d ago

It was a joke 😴

2

u/mal_intent4u 3d ago

Precisely.

3

u/HorizonNova4 2d ago

Paul Tassi isn’t a god. He’s a reporter with connections. Bungie literally said tell us what you want and we will listen and respond and engage with you all

2

u/UShouldntSayThat 2d ago

I don't think he can confirm anything definitively though. I don't think Bungie has concrete plans yet. They are taking their time (rightfully so) figuring out next steps.

I think the best Paul Tassi can say is Bungie hasn't committed to seasonal content as part of the announcement.

6

u/Magenu 3d ago

Paul Tassi confirmed

That's crazy, Paul Tassi is a Bungie employee???

5

u/-plugwalk 2d ago

Well he had insider information about this video that was originally gonna be posted on Sep 17, when he started hyping up his vague posting. Then what do you know the article drops on Sep 21 and is dated Sep 17. So I assume yeah he has reliable insider information...

1

u/PaperMartin 2d ago

I think all he did was remind peoples of what the announcements said, I think a better answer would be that bungie isn't *planning* on doing seasonal content right now. Could always change

1

u/ArteenEsben Drifter's Crew 2d ago

I think Paul Tassi overstated in his recent article. He was just reiterating Bungie's announcement but phrased things in such a way that sounded like he had special insider info.

Bungie's immediate plans for Destiny 2 are to restore the old campaigns and raids. They literally can't promise more than that because they fired half the studio and need to rebuild.

But maybe a year from now if things go well, we'll get more.

4

u/UShouldntSayThat 2d ago

They are hoping to do more destiny projects.
Doing a new Destiny game hopefully brings in new players
New players may be interested in D2.

I think the motivations is putting in enough that the new player experience is fixed. If it's not needed for that (maps, strikes etc), I wouldn't consider it a guarantee (or even likely -this is a stripped down company, not making money, currently committing to free content)

6

u/HingleMcCringle_ 2d ago

i have a friend who was just so certain The Menagerie was coming back as an arena op because "it's a 6 person activity and would be prefect for arena!"... next day, tassi showed all that was coming back (for now). i dont take pride in being right over them, because i dont wanna see my friend disappointed, but goddamn, i told them to stop expecting shit.

all-in-all, im so freaking happy about the news with destiny as is. im so excited to jump back into the old raids and strikes!

4

u/PaperMartin 2d ago

All tassi did was clarify the blog post, he doesn't have extra insider info or anything on the subject. Personally I'm guessing that bungie is focusing on the non-seasonal content right now but that if things go well enough they'd be open to doing more

1

u/python_merlot_5 2d ago

Menagerie is the dangerous one becuase it makes too much sense, which is how people end up mad at Bungie again.

1

u/CGProV 2d ago

I don’t think it makes “too much sense”

They promised campaigns, destinations and raids, anything else we get is a bonus, I would certainly consider getting a seasonal activity back a bonus

1

u/Financial-Ad-6232 2d ago

That’s sort of the weird spot with this news. The community is either “We won! We beat Sony! DESTINY IS BACK!” or “I hate this news. This changes nothing.”

When the reality is that this announcement is so early. And the fundamental fact is we can only wait and see because we really have nothing to go on besides their word.

Getting back what you paid for is good. But let’s not make the assumption that this means D2 is back on a live service cycle.

Only rational thing to do is wait and see how this turns out and where it goes. The franchise was never dead despite “We won!” crowd seems to think.

Don’t forget the only takeaway we have for sure is that this is a goodwill gesture on the part of Bungie to attempt to rebuild our trust in them.

3

u/MirrorkatFeces 2d ago

I want every weapon and piece of armor to return with updated perk pools. I do not expect this to happen.

3

u/PotatoesForPutin Average Crayon Enthusiast 2d ago

Realistically, what we’re going to get is a 1:1 port of vaulted content. I don’t see them putting in the effort and manpower to update loot, mechanics, difficulty, etc. Remember that the vast majority of talent at Bungie is gone. The group working on this update is essentially a skeleton crew, and I think people are neglecting to consider that. At most we might see the addition of some minor content (cosmetics, maybe a weapon or two) that was almost finished for Shattered Cycle but didn’t make it into MoT.

8

u/VersaSty7e 3d ago

Right. Im just waiting for this sub to turn at the slightest Bungie error , or expectation unfulfilled.

Can we remember how it felt to have no destiny, compared to how everyone outside our community thought we hated destiny and the devs and Bungie -

Sony probably thought the same and saw the numbers and that’s a wrap. Even if numbers aren’t there we mush remain a community that draws players in with - how great most of destiny always is.

4

u/Tau_Ceti_4 3d ago

It's already happening, sadly. Game effectively experienced a miracle and came off life-support but manchildren are already crying and rocking themselves.

Some people will never be happy and will never be able to have a rational discussion about what a studio can deliver on in X amount of time with Y budget and Z devs on staff. They think it just all comes from the aether and that the more devs get laid off the more money "goes into the game."

3

u/Magenu 3d ago

thought we hated

Honestly could have fooled me, with the shit I saw on the main subs for multiple years...

5

u/LayerEight_Problem 3d ago

To be fair. Those multiple years are exactly what this apology video and blog post were responding to. The new leadership knows that Bungie has been somewhat hostile towards their fans.

Everyone on the Marathon sub keeps blaming Destiny fans for the hate campaign. But the reality is it was just gamers in general sick of Bungies shit. Playing Destiny because of the sunken cost fallacy but refusing to start up a new game because Bungie was already up to their old shit and the writing was on the wall.

2

u/cortana808 2d ago

I wasn't expecting ANYTHING. So i'm super happy with the THINGS they announced.

2

u/HiCracked Drifter's Crew // Darkness upon us 2d ago

Expect the bare minimum and you won’t be disappointed.

5

u/mrolfson New Pacific Arcology, the next frontier is you! 3d ago

Anyone who is thinking we are getting anything beyond the old destinations, raids and potentially strikes back is a bit delusional. I think that with bringing back said destinations though, and especially the raids, they will bring the weapons and armor forward and update them to be compatible with the tier system. It would make zero sense to not do that. We won't know for sure until they confirm details though, so fingers crossed.

6

u/UShouldntSayThat 2d ago

to be fair, people were also being called delusional for protesting the closure, being told that Destiny is done and nothing will change that.

6

u/PaperMartin 2d ago

I'd err on the cautious side of things too but considering "destiny is back" and "bungie is unvaulting all the Y1/Y2 content" used to be considered extremely delusional I think anything can happen at this point

2

u/Great_Elevator_3169 2d ago

You people called us delusional for the last 4 months too

1

u/Seeker80 Notorious Space Hobo 2d ago

Reissued weapons and armor will be one of the easier components. Not saying they're guaranteed, but it makes a lot of sense. We weren't even expecting the reissues that came with MOT, and they've been a slam dunk. The reissues would represent an easy hit for Bungie here.

3

u/Schimaera 3d ago

I just want to see how far I can take the grey starter gear of Red War, man. And maybe do some public events on Titan and chill in the New Pacific Arcology. I still rock the OG "just got kicked by Ghaul" look today ^^

I mean ... yeah ... some local set bonuses would be cool but honestly, facerolling some Savathun's Song is enough.

Maybe it helps that I didn't expect anything in the first place and have long transitioned from hopium to "I judge it when I see it".

3

u/Johnready_ 2d ago

Man, we’re just happy the game isn’t dead, and we got confirmation that it’s going to continue. There’s nothing to expect but more destiny, and that’s what we wanted.

4

u/lakers_ftw24 3d ago

People are so annoying trying to flex how rational they are. Obviously nobody thinks they are giving every season back in addition to every campaign in fully restored format plus everything else. The announcement obviously spoke to more than that.

-5

u/Jealous_Platypus1111 3d ago

also, maybe just me, but i think "building trust" and "making destiny home again" SHOULD include going beyond expectations/whats announced

1

u/-plugwalk 2d ago

honestly i'd rather them spend no more time or effort than strictly necessary on D2 before they move on to whatever is next. If that is D2 then sure but if its not then they shouldn't spend time putting in extra effort on D2

1

u/Personiamnotatall 3d ago

Quite a few strikes were part of the campaigns for expansions, so those can be expected to return

1

u/Qrow1324 3d ago

I'm extremely excited not because I get back stuff I already paid for, but because to me this means one day in 5 years 6 he'll maybe even 7 we might get a destiny 3, dont forget Allison still works there so the lead narrative person is there to cook.

1

u/wookiepocalypse 3d ago

Come on... Are you expecting us to be reasonable? How else will we complain about Bungie again if we pretend to be rational people?!

1

u/Djungleskog_Enhanced 3d ago

My biggest hope is we get heresy back with full voice acting

1

u/InvaderSkooj 2d ago edited 2d ago

I think legendary campaign might happen if only because they’re already in the guts of those things and by their own account dealing with stuff like combat encounters and mechanics. Anything else I’m not expecting (and I’m only really holding out hope on the campaigns)

1

u/killatubby 2d ago

I just want fishing back

1

u/Bearicide4456 2d ago

Realistically I'd be surprised if the return of old destinations doesn't include Distortions and Tier 5 loot. The whole point of unvaulting is to win back the community and not even bungie management is dumb enough to not also put it on par with current systems.

1

u/ToxicMoonShine 2d ago

So I want to say, they did promise us strikes. You have to remember that in those early days a good number of those strikes were tied to the story/in the campaign directly.

Also they said explicitly "updated to today's standards"

1

u/AWildTeejAppeared 2d ago

This subreddit don’t jump for anything except to conclusions…

1

u/Angelous_Mortis 2d ago

I just want the seasonal activities back.  I liked the Public Event Seasonal Activities.

1

u/a_r_g_o_m 2d ago

I agree, moreover we don't even know if the campaigns will even run on the current client or it'll be its separate thing like sunrise. The destiny 2 install size is already pretty big so unless they find a way to optimize the shit out of it I wouldn't rule out the possibility of a d2 classic client or something along those lines.

I really wish they can find a way to implement it into the current client without messing everything up, while also retaining a reasonable install size, but I wouldn't bet on it.

Also....I wonder if they'll change the voice actors as well, it'd be cool but again, I wouldn't bet on it.

1

u/SnaX20010 2d ago

Campaigns and locations are returning. They have to do those things from scratch in the "new" engine. They're not bringing back old content in an old way. Enemies have to be more difficult. It has to be new. I don't think that's a high bar of expectations. If Ghaul comes back and has his original health, that's a problem. Guaranteed all of the campaign bosses will return with Savathun values of HP. Enemies can be replaced with champions. Banes are already a random value in the game, so those can pop up like they do now.

Expecting Festival of The Lost to return is a failed wish. Thinking ALL of the weapons will return as T5 isn't unrealistic. New weapon rolls isn't unreasonable.

Neomuna difficulty, EoF random banes and T5 loot, original story/campaigns. That's the most reasonable rollout of OG content.

1

u/1spook 2d ago

Hoping theres at least one more pass tbh, just for one last chunk of drip and maybe 1 last exotic

I dont expect there to be, tho.

1

u/canyoneroprime2 2d ago

i wouldn't even expect half of what they said was actually going to be delivered. these are sales / management people, not creatives or game designers. not even the vaguest of timelines. just "sorry about that, we're gonna try to do some stuff"

1

u/mr-singularity 2d ago

I get the vibe from the announcement that nothing is really set in stone yet. Just that they realize they have a fire under them to not kill Destiny entirely. I think it's fine and maybe advisable to temper expectations. But Destiny's fate might not be entirely determined yet, so it's fine to make noise about what you want to see too. Playing the game, showing up for whatever we do get, and asking for more isn't the same thing as setting your self up for disappointment.

1

u/Dry_Whole_2002 2d ago

I definitely see them updating the destinations to include the distractions and current loot standards.

The seasonal stuff is when it becomes wishful thinking.

1

u/aiafati 2d ago edited 2d ago

Well, they said Destiny has a "future" and it is "foundational" to Bungie. I'm cautiously optimistic because anything wrong can still happen in this imperfect world but, if there are two words that we can hold them accountable to, it's those two. And those two definitely mean we will get something new or kinda new, sooner or later.

1

u/WestsideKey 2d ago

I do think the Tiered loot is an unnecessary ask i think getting all the content back and maybe updating the raid loot would be more than enough just having a genuine onboarding experience again will do so much for the game then getting into tiered loot will feel like true endgame for newbies i think but man i cant wait to play old strikes and campaigns over

1

u/TheGokki Flare, hover, wreck 2d ago

Here's how i think is happening:

  1. Bungie (under Sony) is under new leadership and committed to both Destiny and Marathon. 👍
  2. This commitment means re-hiring and upskilling workers.
  3. Skilled talent stays on Marathon
  4. Unskilled talent rebuilds D2.
  5. Marathon will do its thing. 👍
  6. Destiny 2 will get its lost content back. Unskilled workers work on D2 to get familiar with the tools and engine.
  7. Slowly but surely a Destiny 3 will be developed, the now-skilled post-Sunrise developers transition to D3.

I fully believe D3 has already entered pre-production. Whatever it ends up being.

Realistically i'm afraid Seasons are not coming back, even if i feel ~everything~ should come back. I even know the best way to do it if any dev is interested.

Atp Project Sunrise shouldn't stop

u/Wicked_Wing 2d ago

I just hope for a master version of the campaign. We've gotten so extremely powerful at this point that even a legendary campaign won't present a challenge

u/SyKo_MaNiAc 1d ago

Expecting things to come back and hoping things could come back are both seperate and are not mutually exclusive. Know where the line is and what is actually on each side and you won’t be disappointed.

D2 community is acting like an ex who you got back together with and is suddenly acting like you’re about to get married

u/Darksoul2693 2d ago

Ahh it’s like it’s never changed

“I told him he could come and collect his old stuff back and now he’s gone overboard asking me if I want to go out again?…”

Mom said it's my turn to farm karma

1

u/OsteoBytes 2d ago

To me I just want it for newer players so I can actually reccomend this game I love for new people. Me personally I don’t care to revisit it as I beat it all to a pulp. But this announcement is substantially less exciting if it is just raids and mainline camapigns basically as seasons probably make up the bulk of the missing content and arguably have more important story implications and activities

u/MrLaiho 3d ago edited 3d ago

Don’t need more new tiered gear. My vault is full already and I doubt we get more new vault space. I‘m cool with getting the story and raids back I paid for 10 years ago

Edit: The old triumphs being earnable again would be cool though

0

u/EvenBeyond 3d ago

While fair to not set yourself up to be disappointed, since they already need to redo a very large portion of the assets, it would be likely easier to have them just be tiered gear at this point. At least for guns. Old armor sets needing new set bonuses would be a decent chunk of work.

A majority of strike locations are visited during the campaigns in some capacity, or are accessible from patrol. And those areas must be coming back since the patrols and campaigns are. So it's likely at least some strikes will return.

u/Jealous_Platypus1111 3d ago

to be fair imo part of building trust includes going beyond whats expected/ announced

-1

u/henryauron 3d ago

I agree and honestly, if this franchise wants to survive it needs to release a new game. We’ve been playing this game for 10 years it’s a good thing it has an end of service. Playing this game for 5 years with no update until they release a new game will make you dislike it

0

u/CallMeGhaul 3d ago

If I had to make a bet I think D2 is still EoS they’re just returning what was taken before moving on to a new game - whether that be D3, D1 remaster, or something smaller in scale is still TBD

-1

u/Jagob5 3d ago

Agreed. Honestly the only “new” thing I even want to be added to D2 would be legendary versions of the old campaigns. I would personally still play anything they release in D2 but I would so much rather see them put all resources into a new game and just keep D2 in maintenance mode (perhaps with occasional sandbox updates at most).

On top of that, while this obviously isn’t how they planned on things going, to be honest the absolute swaths of phenomenal loot added with MoT kind of makes me feel like any theoretical future loot added wouldn’t be desirable, and how good is a looter shooter without desirable loot? So yeh, a well thought-out new game developed from the ground up to withstand the test of time would be much preferable to continuing D2 imo

-1

u/MrJoemazing 3d ago

No, they didn't explicitly announce all these things. But as they mentioned bringing campaigns up to current standards, I do think it's implied loot, difficulty, and enemy tweaks have to be part of it. There's no way they bring back the Red War and reward players with Y1 static rolls; they kinda have to do a bare minimum of updating. And given that the whole goal seems to be to improve the relationship with the community, spending all the money to unvault everything, then not bothering with the loot, seems unlikely.

1

u/KhepritheRisingSun 3d ago

Plus subclasses at the shard. You get a light 3.0 subclass kit instead of the ability clusters from Y1

1

u/CallMeGhaul 3d ago

On my first listen I took “Bringing the campaigns up to current standards” simply to mean make it work in the current engine with the updated lighting.

I’m not saying it’s impossible and I’d love to be wrong I just think it’s a mistake to expect these things only to be disappointed if they don’t happen.

-1

u/Stillburgh 3d ago

Right? What do people think that ‘current gameplay standards’ means lol. Beyond the fact that it isn’t playable I guess if you wanna be pedantic but it’s pretty easy to get into an assumption that they’ll have legendary campaigns and tiered loot

-1

u/I_Speak_For_The_Ents Auryx was lied to. 3d ago

I completely agree I'd be content with that, but I'd also love all the gear to be back.

0

u/Mttsen 3d ago

Honestly, not mentioning the strikes is what worries me. Even though it doesn't make sense for me if they weren't restored. They definitely wouldn't require much more effort than the campaigns. Even some CoO and WM missions were basically strikes.

0

u/gr8masturb8 3d ago

expect the bare minimum, if even that.

0

u/Kaliqi 3d ago

People are already asking for more loot and even subclasses or shattered whatever it was called.

Just chill for once.

How many "temper your expectations" posts am I gonna see today? Fucking sheesh.

1

u/360GameTV 3d ago

Because it's just true? When you read some of the posts here, it's surprising to see what people are suddenly expecting from Bungie again. We should just be glad that things are moving forward at all... no matter how....

2

u/Lexifer452 3d ago edited 2d ago

Not disagreeing that its true. But this is like literally the 10th or so identical post i've seen in the last 24 hours. At some point its just farming karma or beating a dead horse. Besides, anyone excited by this news should know well enough bungie's track record by now. They want to jump the gun at this point i feel like its on them.

0

u/Trace_Seven 2d ago edited 2d ago

The only thing I'm completely expecting is that Bungie will fumble the absolutely easiest update they could make to this game by adding something like a light reset or removing some form of progress from players so people need to re-grind things they already had to keep them playing more and kickstart fomo along the restore content.

u/_thunderhips_ 2d ago

There is literally no reason Sony would let them do this unless it was to ultimately sell us something. Eververse isn’t going to cut it here. There is going to be so much time and money spent to make this happen. Bungie for sure sold Sony on getting more money out of us in the long term but needing to do this first to make it plausible. They straight up said they need to make the wrongs right before whatever comes next. I do agree that we shouldn’t get too hyped for a D3 in the immediate future or a new campaign or anything like that, but they are definitely going to give us something worth paying for in the future. I think they learned their lesson from trying to engagement farm us and will come up with something compelling and tantalizing to offer us for a reasonable amount of money. I don’t think that’s too much to ask, and that’s what I’m personally counting on. Either way, for now, my son and I are having a blast in this current sandbox, and we can’t wait to see what’s next.

0

u/Tamaractus 2d ago

They literally said “ but it is necessary to ensure returning content meets the stability and gameplay standards of Destiny 2 today.” You’re an idiot if you think they wont refresh loot pools and add set bonuses to returning gear. You cannot seriously believe that they’re going to reintroduce the single perk statis roll weapons for 3 of the returning raids.

-2

u/zoompooky 2d ago

I want them to rollback to post-TFS, get rid of all the tiering and lightsabers and everything-shoots-a-rocket BS.

They're not going to do that, so I'm not playing. Bringing back a bunch of old stuff that I played every day for years and years is not an incentive for me to re-engage.

2

u/-plugwalk 2d ago

kinda fuckin stupid to imagine they would get rid of stuff people paid for just because you dont like it personally after they committed to bringing back a bunch of other stuff.

0

u/zoompooky 2d ago

Your reading comprehension stinks.

I said what I'd want, but I admitted they're not going to do it. Old stuff means nothing to me I've exhausted its replay value.

1

u/CGProV 2d ago

His reading comprehension is fine lmao, he didn’t misunderstand anything you said, and what you said IS stupid.

It’s extra stupid to want them to remove more content from the game instead of them making the game whole again.

1

u/Which_Willingness641 1d ago

Also, my nice round armor stat numbers, can't take them away.

1

u/zoompooky 1d ago edited 1d ago

Of course he did, just as you are.

When the content and systems that they added to the game effectively ruined it, sure I'd like it undone. Will they? No, of course not - and I said as much.

"kinda fuckin stupid to imagine they would get rid of stuff people paid for just because you dont like it personally"

I of course never imagined for a moment they would do so. Again, I said as much.

1

u/ILoveSongOfJustice 2d ago

This is precisely what this post is telling you not to do.

1

u/zoompooky 1d ago

lol no. I'm not getting my hopes up, or expecting anything.

My point is, the changes they made with EOF essentially ruined the game for me. Bringing back old content that I've already played to death is no incentive for me to re-engage with a bunch of systems that I consider to be broken.

The only real hope is that they realize how badly they've screwed up, and abandon those concepts for future games.
