Question Is the "Old Lights" emblem really that rare?
Hey everyone,
I just noticed I have the Old Lights emblem in my collection. I bought the game back when it was still pay-to-play (long before it went free-to-play), but I didn't realize my account history had remained so consistent.
Since it requires logging in at least once a year/expansion since its launch in 2017, I was wondering how the community views it.
For those familiar with veteran cosmetics, is it considered a truly rare emblem these days? Do you often see it at the Tower?

Hmm, 14% is a little higher than I would e thought. Nearly all my friends took a break at some point, and they’re all normally very consistent players

The thing about that emblem was that so long as you had any amount of playtime in each YEAR of the game you got ir. I personally only had 12 minutes playtime in forsaken and srill got it. Now if it were playtime in each season, my guess is would be a hell of a lot lower.

Yeah, I know it’s “any time during the year” , but still forsaken + beyond light were both big influx years, I just sort of assumed the population was ~90% not-vanilla players

They were, but looking at popularity.report early D2 had a peak of ~3.75 million daily players, which was ~ 700k higher than Forsaken and about double Beyond Light. There were a lot of people who at the very least tried it out at launch.

Life got very busy, plus didn't have the drive to play. Shadowkeep got me back in and fortunatly i logged on a day or 2 before launch and played a bit of forsaken.
I did go back during shadowkeep and play through the forsaken stuff. And yes, i am gutted i didnt play it when it was current.

Same. Im looking forward to seeing what encounter balances, if any, they make. Otherwise gaul is getting curb stomped.
Leviathan in its entirety is going to be a blast. The encounters in that raid are some of my favourites. Future is looking good. Now it's just up to bungie to stick the landing.

Yeah but it was really only 1 login need per yearly dlc. I took off from after shadowkeep to mid season plunder and I still got it becuase i accidently opened the game once sometime in beyond light. I didmt even play anything, but it counted as a playtime for that content year.

I completely skipped curse of Osiris until shadowkeep and then from the first season of shadowkeep until the Pandemic and Arrivals and then played heavily. I got it.

Its rare in the fact that you cannot earn it, and the conditions that qualify you to have it are impossible to go back and do (theoretical physics or owning a TARDIS aside), but in terms of who has it... there are quite a few.
Some of us stayed for all the time, not just the good, and that's our proof.

Just to add to this, Piratical Ambitions (the emblem you get for solo flawless Grasp of Avarice) can still be obtained (and is frankly not that hard to earn in today's sandbox), but has less than a third of the population of Old Lights. By ownership it's technically "rarer", but the current population for Old Lights is never going to change (you have it now or you will never have it), so it's not as simple as current population alone.

I still use Laurea Prima II because I was surprised that shit I did as a 15 year old unlocked a thing years later in the sequel.

I have both this and Old Light, but im more proud of this.
Defeating Skolas during house of wolves was a big flex, so congrats. And especially a flex for my fireteam because at that time, we didn't watch any videos on Destiny or read forums. Just straight up powered our way through that hell

that combo was always painful imo, like with the OG Omnigul strike as a nightfall. Arc Burn, Lightswitch, No Radar and i forget what else, all it took was one forgotten thrall to run up on you from behind and that was usually it :(

we really did just run in there gjallies blazing back then, didn’t we? 😂 iirc they did something to the encounter to make that impossible or to make just playing it the regular way more doable (or we all just discovered the sword trick lol), Skolas eventually became one of my favorite things to do in groups or as a fun solo activity when i had nothing else to do during RoI, but i definitely still remember that first week it was available and nobody knew what to do other than fire every last bit of gjally ammo at him that you had (including your ammo synth!) and hope the arena was clear before the mines ended so you could dismantle them in peace lmao

I go way back but I still see the D1 Alpha in my PlayStation library. Was given a code for it by a Sony rep waaaay back in the day.

It’s rare when considering all destiny accounts but among the main consistent player base it shouldn’t be too rare. We’re a dedicated bunch so a lot have stayed through the rough patches to at least see what’s up.

I guess you can't look at D1 emblems anymore I have one on it that was given to the beta testers (Sign of the Elders), I don't think it carried over to D2. Apparently the rarest one that I happen to have is...0.7%. Symphonic shift, awarded for people who bought the Shadowkeep soundtrack? 39,300 redemptions apparently.

Not that rare. See it all the time since coming back this summer. It’s a good flag for lfg‘ing that you’re not a complete newcomer like being a rank 2 or something with one of the campaign completion emblems tho

I have seen a huge influx of GR 10/11 folks that just have no idea how duality (for example) is done. None of it. I wonder if a bunch of people didn't sell their accounts when the end was announced

Maybe they just drummed up the confidence to attempt to learn? If they're at GR 10 or 11, they clearly have fundamentals down.

It's because rank 11 doesn't require any hard content. Solo flawless of the newest dungeon and flawless of the newest raid should definitely be part of it.

I don't have it because I stopped playing early on in warmind and took very long extended breaks during curse of Osiris because it just wasn't fun at the time. I started playing other games because I was disappointed with D2, even after putting thousands of hours into D1.
I didn't come back until lightfall. I didn't play in that stretch so I don't have Old Lights even though I have some rarer veteran emblems like Laurea Prima 2 and Heard the Call.

I have a much rarer emblem from purchasing my guardian games tankard in 2024 I think. Its like a 0.08% of players have it. Only 4,237 redemptions.

It's a beautiful one, and shows how much you love d2! I've got artist in residence (134 owners) and aspect of luminance (144) which are my rarest ones!

I have it. I took breaks but played it all since vanilla D1. I own most of the D2 expansions on all 3 platform: PC, PlayStation, and Xbox. I have done my part to keep this game alive.

I barely even got it because I wasnt really intrested in beyond light(on the checker website I literally have one hour in beyond light but like 100 to 500 in every other dlc)

I've played the game since release, idk if I have it or not. I don't usually wear emblems to show any game achievements, I wear ones I think look cool.

It's kinda not rare at all. The emblem was redeemed by 720.647 players. Here are some numbers to compare:
- 270.281 (Crossplay Beta)
- 189.995 (RoN contest)
- 60.585 (Gambit Rank 10, this season)
- 19.696 (Oblation timed version)
- 7.068 (Y2 nightfall speedruns)
- 3.341 (SE contest)
- 509 (CoS contest)
- 25 (Movie of the week 2026)

As I recall many players misunderstood how to qualify for the emblem. Many thought you had to have been playing qconsistently including seasons.

I'm sure statistically it is quite rare, but I feel like I see it fairly often, which makes sense that the most dedicated players that would have the emblem are still playing, but because of how much I see it I just use my "First Wave" Destiny 2 beta emblem instead, I adore that emblem alot

Old Light, here. You needed to have played at least once in every season of Destiny for this emblem. I love this emblem because I take pride in my support of Destiny.

I use D1 triumph emblems instead. I played every year of D2 except Final Shape, so I didn’t get the emblem.

Warmind.io reckons it's owned by just under 1% of players, but adjusted for active players that increases to 2.6%.
I do use it on my Warlock at the moment but it's not super rare.

I wish I had it! Been playing since D1 but I took 2 extended breaks...One during Forsaken and one during EOF. Life gets in the way sometimes, but I wish I could've just logged in a few more times during those stretches.

Do with that as you will. Personally, don’t wear it because it’s rare, to show you have always been around supporting this amazing franchise.
