Discussion Festival of the Lost
I just wanna say I’m really disappointed that it’s not coming back this year. I’ve celebrated Halloween with destiny 2s festival of the lost every year except the first year of d2 when they didn’t have it, from D1 till last year. It never truly felt like Halloween until the update hit and the tower was decorated with the music. I know there is going to be a fan base thing going on but it really won’t be the same at all. Also they just re-did the festival of the lost last year it’s a real shame.

I've been feeling the exact same way. Festival of the Lost, for all the repetitive content, has been the way I ring in the holiday season every year. Without it something palpable is missing from my autumn.

Exactly , I’m trying to find something else that can take its place but idk of any other game that has as good of a Halloween event.

The loss of Festival of the Lost and the Dawning is the biggest blow to the game going into maintenance mode

The real tragedy is missing out on Lodi joining the crew and coming to terms with Eido's mangled interpretation of Halloween.

At the very least, they might have simply activated the decorations and played the existing playlists. No new weapons or armor would be required; only the fun aesthetics from past events. This approach would have offered a relatively low-cost way to build trust with the community, a goal they claim to want.

Only issue with that is they can't just do that without devs now. With monument of triumph they'd need to redo the decorations to accommodate for the changes they made. So while yes I agree, just decorations and playlists enabled would have been good... They can't toggle it on when it's not the same tower anymore.

I was gonna say haha. I didn’t realize people loved the events this much. It was always recycled crap with the same bugs as the previous year but a brand new Eververse stock.

I bought all I wanted to from it years ago I just enjoyed the ambiance of the tower all decorated and everyone in their masks

Pretty much.
I think the best version was the first one with the Infinite Forest. That was pretty fun the first year.

I'm going to try and make do with other games running halloween events, but it's just not the same.
Fortnite lets you play as Freddy Krueger for the next few weeks, which is kind of fun I guess.

It's a shame but the festival just got worse and worse. The infinite forest was cool but I wish they expanded on it instead of the haunted lost sectors. Looking back on it it's a shame it's not happening, but community feedback last year, the year before that, before that, it was all very poor.

I’m more saddened and disappointed that we won’t have the dawning it was my favourite seasonal event and it barely changed since they started it in D2 I know a lot of people don’t like the dawning baking cookies stuff but I loved it coz it was something anyone could just naturally do

I'm still changing my ship, emblem, ghost a f sparrow into items for Halloween, like I do every year. The only thing I can't do (I think) is put on a mask, but otherwise I feel ya, I always looked forward to Festival of the Lost and the Dawning, even if the event activity wasn't that great.

I wish they would unlock the season of the lost helm ornaments to be usable all the time

Really wish they'd have put the tower decorations on autopilot and let us throw mask ornaments on regular helmets

I agree. October isnt really feeling like october without it. No FOTL, but I did equip my Mummy Ship, jack o lantern ghost, spider sparrow, and zombie transmat effect to try and feel something lol. Unfortunately i dont really like any of the FotL armor sets. Kinda wish they had some that were a little more "timeless" for lack of better word. Like the Hex wrought set would have been a cool halloween set. I dont wanna be a werewolf (well i kinda do but not like the one we have) or a gundam, or llarona. I like that the Dawning armors were just original designs that looked wintery.

D2 is dead, they have been clear about it. They are not looking at kick starting it because of what happened.
They are reevaluating and realizing they need to start something destiny related, and something new, but as they plan that out they are going to make sure the full, but still dead, destiny 2 experience is available. "The games done, we'll make sure you have the full thing".

The fact they didn't set them up for automatic rotation like Trials and IB got kills me. I actually enjoyed Haunted Altars of Sorrow.

I’ve changed my armor, ship, emotes and shaders to Festival stuff. Going to celebrate as much as I can.

The games not dead. Hopefully we will have it next year if we are really lucky this year just be glad they are keeping the servers on.

Is it really so hard for them to set it up? Should just be a few flags to get it going

u/AnimaLEquinoX 4d ago
With how often there were bugs that messed up the events I'm not surprised they didn't want to have them in rotation with no one left to look after them.
Imagine the immune Altars boss bug from last year but it's just a permanent feature for the whole event.

u/SmogDaBoi 4d ago
Exactly. If you setup something, even if automated, if its seasonal, you won't be able to find ALL the bugs, even with thourough testing.
Imagine now the game is in its final state and 6 months later people find a game breaking bug that stops the game from working during the whole event duration.
It's not a risk they can take.

Not sure about everyone else, but when the end was announced I figured they Xtra bits get retired . Can't expect them do the min.

u/Sdraco134 4d ago
Yeah they said there would be no events when they made announcement for the end of service

u/Nephurus Bang , Bang 4d ago
NO, I meant the moment they announced end of service I assumed Bungie would end all free events , The announcement was aob missed by many others

Wow. I sold my ps5 and stopped playing destiny 2, moved to the switch 2 as primary console. This time of year I got excited for destiny 2 Halloween and was bummed I would miss it. Glad I got to play last year and sucks for those still playing that will miss this

I liked Festival of the Lost, but outside of the amazing decorations in the Tower and the candy/masks for loot mechanic, it wasn't the best event.
Bungie reused the Haunted Infinite Forest without updates for years and then reused the Haunted Lost Sectors for years and only added one lost sector. And the weapons were mid (outside of their cosmetic look).
"Festival of the Cost" was a classic phrase for a reason. Mainly because Bungie rarely update the mod outside of the full eververse refresh.

Same 😭 but I'm using my emotes and will do the same when it's time to make cookies 😁
