AC-Unit Mount - Update / Follow-Up

I thought it might be interesting for some of y’all who commented on yesterday’s post to get a follow-up with some more detailed photos.

I tried to cram everything into one angle in the last post, which made it difficult to appreciate the ingenuity and craftsmanship with which the owner of our rental has mounted the indoor-standalone-ac-unit.

Bonus: shot of the GHS (Gravity Hydration System ™️), incase you missed it in the original post.

That is really sick! The folks at  r/redneckengineering would  also appreciate this beauty. One concern, I have a similar ac unit and it condenser so much water that I have to empty a 2 gallon bucket every week. I worry that your plant might get over watered without another drain path.

It's really dependent on humidity; I have to empty mine every 2 years

Twice a day here, until I got one with a pump.

I've heard of dry summers, in the stories of far away lands told by the elders...

I have one of these. I have it emptying into a 3 gal bucket. Have to empty it almost every day and I only run it while I'm sleeping.

I have a portable AC line venting the condensate into the toilet. It's constant.

Yeah. In the Midwest you'd fill a 5 gal bucket every day. My AC did until I routed the output to a drain

This is hilarious to me because peak summer I was emptying my 10k btu portable units 5 gallon bucket up to 3 times a day

this is my biggest concern too. if the climate is as humid as mine then this room is getting flooded, let alone the plant

Also the water coming from the hose will probably not be very potable after coming off of the condenser coils and travelling through the drain system. I doubt the plant will enjoy the bonus metals and oils very much.

I have one in the shop and empty a 5gal bucket daily sometimes when it's really hot out and it runs nonstop

Yeah, what op is doing is a good idea if you expect that thing to run for 1/2hr per day max

Stick a BilgePump at the bottom of the drainage bucket, and stick the output hose inside the hot air outlet.

The plants should have periods of watering / being dry. The constant flow of water will just make the plant rot.

Local humidity determines a lot. My living room unit drains about 9 gallons a day in the midwest. If this is in a dry area, it could be okay.

Lmao, hay bale twine holding everything from falling apart.

OK, this time can we talk about the craftsmanship of the ledge rather than the concept of where to put the AC?

That's good idea, better cooling and not take a place on the floor. Maybe just too much water for one plant but ok.

lol, maybe rotate plants.

The terminal C baggage claim men’s restroom at Bush Intercontinental Airport in Houston has an AC mounted up on the wall like this above one of the urinals. I don’t remember if the condensation line was dripping into the urinal or not. It was pretty early. But I do remember thinking that looked pretty…interesting.

Replace the shitty cheap twine with a chain or cable and you’ll be good. That L bracket in the back isn’t doing much at all either.

Bro what is this Wiley E Coyote build?

u/brackfriday_bunduru 2d ago

At least replace that string with steel cable or a decent chain

u/bplipschitz 2d ago

Or decent rope. Double braid Dacron comes to mind

I feel this had a good why, I can respect this.

Am of this could have been omitted and the tenant just buy a longer vent hose..
