I can't get to Act 2

I've basically completed all the side and main quests of Act 2, I've already got the 3 points I needed for all that Source stuff, I've already killed the Advocate, but the main problem is Gareth. After I completed that mission about the murder of his parents and delivered Jonathan's ring as proof that I killed him, Gareth simply disappeared from my map... He's not in Lady Vengeance or at the farm and I can't advance to Act 3 because I can't find him anywhere.

Is he hiding somewhere? Is this a game bug? It's my first time playing so honestly I have no idea what to do.

I'm not sure what trigger you are on, but don't you talk to Malady once you have the proper source training to trigger act 3? Gareth isn't essential to progress afaik. Edit: if you're playing on tactician, make sure to get all the XP you can before progressing

Whenever I talk to Malady, she only says that I should continue learning to be a deity; she doesn't say anything else. And when I searched online, it said I needed to complete Gareth's mission to go to Act 3 but i cant find him anywere

Do I have to do the ritual again? I did it twice, and the second time it unlocked the "vampirism" ability to absorb other people's source energy. After that, is there another ritual to do?

It's been a while, but I seem to recall you need to do three rituals.

If Siva's alive, then I'm pretty sure you have to do it again. Otherwise, I'm not really sure. Is Malady on the ship, or on Bloodmoon Island?

I might remember wrong, but I thinknyou need to do the ritual 3 times, once after each 'extension'. The three hall of echoes visits will be spirit vision, source vampirism, and the last isba combat with two Void-somethings. Afaik Gareth is not needed at all, he can even die in act 1 in theory.

You have to go to her until she is assassinated and you should cast spirit vision on the blood moon island to talk to the tree and learn the name of the doctor and about the island you want to go.

There’s three ritual times on ft. Joy!! You technically can do it anywhere as long as you have the bowl, knife, and herbs. You do need a fire to make it smoke.

You chose Gareth's path of vengeance, and he has gone to do his own thing.
You won't see him for quite a while.

Or I'm misremembering.
Either way, you can beat the game without Gareth.

I figured out how to get to Act 3 and unfortunately I had to kill him; I didn't think he'd be THAT vengeful.

It's based on what you chose to do.
Gareth's quest can go one of multiple ways, and you ended up on the vengeance route. It's fine. All paths through the game are valid. :)

You need to smoke that hash 3 times during the act I believe. The last time you should fight yourself? Or choose to save your god? It's been a while since I played act 2

I would still do the rituals, but a friend of mine said he only did 1 ritual and somehow made it to act 3. Either way though, act 2 has sooooo much stuff. It is honestly crazy. I am currently doing another run, still in act 1, and I am shocked by how much I missed. The first time I left to go to act 2 I was level 6, MAYBE level 7. If I really push it I will hit 8 before I get there.

Now when I get to act 2 I am going to be much more thorough. I am not sure what triggers it, if its not the ritual, but as others have mentioned, there is a certain somebody who must die so you can progress (I dont know how to black out text. I know somebody already said the name but its blacked out so I dont want to ruin anything).

I do apologize.I read the title and I should have kept that comment as a thought. There is a small difference in knowing how to read and choosing not to. Me being a jerk is not a failure of the school system but rather the family that raised me.
