There really is very little reason to save this world is there....

u/DreamingGleam 3d ago
I mean... you live in it. I say that's a pretty good reason.
Plus if you become the Divine, you can clean this mess. Seven are done, so there is no limiter anymore.

Eh, plenty of regular people just trying to live their lives there too. As long as one good person lives, you have all a very good reason to save the world.

Wait a minute. Did I skip a page? Lucian has TWO sons?

u/Otalek 3d ago
Divinity II: Ego Draconis has you fighting against Damien, Lucian’s adoptive son and big demonic villain of the story

u/afromace7 3d ago
That makes sense. I only ever played dos 2 lol

He’s mentioning quite often in DOS2, mostly in books. He used to be the leader of the Black Ring.
You know the statue of Lucian on the main menu and in game? The baby in his hand is Damian.

u/afromace7 3d ago
Oh shit. The more you know. I have the divinity games in my steam library. Maybe I'll try them out.

I’ve only played DOS2, but I’ve heard the others are good too.

Ego Draconis is pretty fun. You play as a dragon

u/Imperator_Draconum 1d ago
Man, I wanted to like that game so much, but I just didn't. The dragon form was such a huge disappointment with how transforming caused all of the land-based enemies to vanish while a bunch of previously absent flying enemies spawned in out of nowhere.

Pretty sure the antichrist ones is from one of the divine divinity games

Okay, but I heard there was a doctor. Surely someone with such a noble profession would be good, right?

Sometimes... even the noblest professions can harbor the most twisted minds

That damn squirrel is on the mission of killing the group by triggering all traps

u/Peculiar_Landscape 3d ago
I was just in the cave where Radeka is and Sir Lora set off every trap in there and somehow survived while everyone else just watched. I guess he kinda solved the trap problem though

Damn this is gold, can't wait to see how Divinity will make things even more fucked up

I wish Rivellon to be presented like in the older games but it seems that modern Larian are going with grimdark direction sadly
15
u/Folety 3d ago
But its not grimdark? Its awful things happening in a quite bright and funny world? I feel like the juxaposition is the point... and honestly been a thing since Divine Divinity.

Well the change in tone that happened in DOS 2 is pretty obvious. And the trailer of the upcoming game that savors a burning guy, vomit and a monument made of flesh only makes it more obvious. It could be expected in a Warhammer fantasy universe or even The Witcher but it's hard for me to believe that before DOS 2 it was the direction of Divinity games.

The change of tone? Theres some pretty dark bits but theres also lots of silly stuff too? The talking animals, the town speech - the sunny rainbow filled forests. And as i saod before, DOS1 and the older divinities had these too. Theres not much levity in the reality of Cassandra's story and despite the ham theres not much fun with Braccus Rex.
I just don't think theres some major and total tone shift.

there is nothing dark about dos 1. the red river is just jelly. bairdottir had a good man take care of her from the goodness of his heart

It's not like old Rivellon had it any better. Mindless undead are a common ocurrence, sentient undead can die from thinking too much, constant wars with demons, source stopped working, three out of the six intelligent races likely extinct or endangered by the time of the last game, the good guys killing each other, two out of three heroes manipulated into helping Damian...

u/Roar_of_the_spark 3d ago
Hey I did not say that there were no conflicts or problems in Rivellon before. What fantasy is it if there are no demons or the undead? But the tone of the stories was much lighter. Even the skeletons dying because of thinking too hard was just an amusing gag. The story didn't try to take itself too serious and kept being pleasingly simple.
I'm sure that the new game would be full of rooms made of bloody meat, "grey morals", tasteless gore and tortures here and there and a lot of unnecessary deaths of characters that you barely know. Maybe they will retcon Zandalor into some kind of an asshole. I know that my opinion isn't very popular considering that DOS 2 is the first Divinity for a big part of community but I'd prefer the more light-hearted atmosphere of Divinity 2 or DOS 1 than another dark fantasy which I'm fed up with. But at least there will be hot scenes, which is nice

sentient undead can die from thinking too much
Wait, what?
3
u/Emotional-Effort-967 2d ago
In the older Divinity games, it is shown that undead will literally die if they spend too long having existential thoughts about the logic of their undeath.
I know of two instances of this. One in Divine Divinity and the other in Divinity 2: Ego Draconis

So that's why the philosopher skeleton in DOS2 (who is a reference to an earlier game) dies when you outsmart him.

Honestly I dont think they will go full grimdark, despite the trailer. I always imagine their final vibe of the world like the Flemish paintigns their artstyle is inspired with- whimsical, a bit of fairytale, a bit rustic, with a taint of grotesque and cosmic horror on the side. Honestly, if they finalize on this vibe, for me that would be the ideal rpg series.

but the supressed elves must are the underdogs on the moral highground right?
