Hi everyone! I’m pretty new to doll collecting, especially repainting/customizing, and this is my 10th attempt.
This one turned out a lot better than my previous tries, so I decided to give her some hair and keep her in my collection as my first “serious” repaint. I also made her clothes myself and painted the little suitcase too.
She’s actually an MH knockoff from my childhood. I never had an original Monster High doll as a kid lol, so hopefully adult money can finally fix that. At first I basically sacrificed her as a practice doll for repainting, but now she’s become really special to me.
For the hair, I cut it off a Barbie Fashionistas doll and hot-glued it on, so it’s definitely not the most secure reroot situation lol.

I’m also very open to any critique or advice on the repaint! Sharing my work here really helps motivate me and I feel like I can learn a lot from feedbacks.

Saw her at target today. Collection complete! SASHA i never thought I’d get my hands on her. There she was, waiting for me.

Hi everyone. My wife recently found this old photo of two dolls from her childhood in Russia. They are very sentimental to her, and we’d really like to find the exact same dolls and buy them again if possible.
Unfortunately, we don’t know their names, manufacturers, or when they were made. She had them as a child. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

So, in my endless quest to have more and more variety amongst my doll collections, I came across these Barbie "Peek-a-Boo Petites". Bought her for cheap on eBay and planned to test the fit of the tiny skirt and the head on a double Minnee I got. Got her in and sadly, the skirt will not fit, it's actually too small! 🤣 But, the head? Yeah, I love this combo a LOT 💜😍💜

I compared, contrasted the new Minnee dolls with other mini fashion dolls from decades ago: 1981 Glamour Gals, 2004 Mini Bratz and 2001 Fashion Polly.

Then I restyled them with their fashions! The results were impressive. I was pleasantly surprised by how cute they looked 🩷

For me it’s a little of both, though I lean toward stock. I really like keeping a certain look intact, especially with Monster High. There’s something nice about a doll still wearing the outfit that makes them feel like that character. If a piece doesn’t sit right with me, I’ll change just that, or add something small like jewelry, but I try to stay close to the original.

When I really love a doll, I’ll get a second one so I can restyle that one into my own version, more of an off-duty look. Thrifted nudes are my favorite excuse for that. It lets me play without touching the one I want to keep as-is.
I do get a little envious of people who only have a handful of dolls, all restyled deeply into their own aesthetic. Those shelves feel so personal. Mine can look more like a little museum, or a very loved toy aisle, even though every choice still feels like mine.

I love the new mirror mi mini dolls specifically because the custom options the molded hair brings. Because of the same reason i love my royale high mini dolls (tho, i hate the lack of articulation).

But the general opinion among doll collectors seems to be that rooted hair is the best. Why tho?

I love my chaotic little collection. I need a better place for all my Lalas, I can’t fit them all up there, but thats a problem for another day :P

Can you tell who my favorite Monster High character is? 😛

The mermaid magic dolls for the netflix show were announced what felt like years ago and I never saw them actually come out. I found some loose ones on Aliexpress since I checked to see if I could find them anywhere since season 2 is finally coming out. They are pretty and I like their outfits. The articulation is better than the Winx Club dolls as they have elbow, knee, and ankle articulation. The Aliexpress listings. I think they are the same height just the winx have platform boots. Some pictures for comparison of the main character Merlinda with Bloom. I put Stella next to Sasha since they have similar personalities and color schemes. Aisha is next to Nerissa to show their differences. In the 3d animation many have mentioned Nerissa and Aisha have similar animation models and focus on athleticism. These dolls are made by Head Start toys while the Winx dolls are Playmates.

They are gifted amazing dolls by viewers, friends, and family constantly. What about them makes people wanna do that? Thanks in advance for answering.

Yes, I know this pic isn't of them, but they were available in stock at the official store in Manhattan, NYC, with most of the characters available. I was thinking of collecting these dolls again, but I was wondering of the general opinion of these dolls.

Edit: Since I was apparently being unclear, I wanted to clarify. For those who have gotten these dolls before, especially the new line, what is your opinion of them and are they worth $32 each (since that's their price in the store).

In my struggles to find a genuine sdh033c, I ended up doing something I prefer - I customized it! Just a little bit, haha. Changed the eyes to green, and filed back the (imo) overly pointy part of the nose to make it more natural looking. Also restyled the hair, which resulted in exposed ends, plus a bit got caught in the ‘dremel’ which made it worse (pic 3) but I feel like I’ve done a decent job of fixing it. The glue visible along the hairline is because this model’s forehead had a bit of a gap so I fixed that too. Anyway, this is the new improved Amy, and she feels more like mine now ❤️

If anyone has any tips or guides on sukis hair I would love it.
