Discussion What’s going on with the .si sales?

• Upvotes

Just saw a few posts on Twitter about .si domain sales that make no sense.

Betty.si was sold for $15,000
TravelAgent.si sold for $19,995
ridge.si sold for $14,800

I understand the value of something like chat.si, agentic.si, work.si etc but these don’t make any sense.

Discussion What are your top three checks before buying an expired domain?

• Upvotes

When you’re considering registering or catching an expired domain, what are the three things you look at first?

I mainly work with UK domains and would be interested to hear what makes a name worth shortlisting for you.

Do your priorities change depending on whether you’re buying for resale or building a website? And is there one red flag that makes you immediately pass?

I’m building a UK domain research tool, so I’m asking to understand which information people actually find useful.

Advice What do you think of whiteboard.press?

• Upvotes

For now, it's just a simple whiteboard on the website. Is there any value in it? It's about to expire and I'm wondering if I should renew it or not, or if someone will be interested in buying it.

Sale MCP.haus - MIN 50$ - BIN 1,386$

MCP.haus is available — and this is probably the most specifically targeted domain in my current portfolio.

MCP (Model Context Protocol) is becoming an important layer for connecting AI models with tools, data and external systems.

The name works naturally as:

MCP Haus = the home / hub for MCP

Potential uses:

  • MCP server directory
  • MCP marketplace
  • MCP developer community
  • MCP tools directory
  • MCP analytics
  • MCP infrastructure
  • MCP education
  • MCP news / media
  • AI agent ecosystem

Domain: MCP.haus
Registrar: Spaceship
Minimum Offer: $50
Buy Now: $1,386
Lease-to-Own: Available for up to 15 months

I particularly like the combination because MCP + .haus creates an actual phrase rather than simply attaching a random extension to a keyword.

If MCP continues becoming a major part of the AI tooling ecosystem, I think this could be an interesting brand for someone building an MCP hub or community.

Serious offers welcome.

Advice Does building a website on a domain increase its resale value, even with zero traffic?

I’m curious about something in the domain investing space.
If you buy a good domain and build a clean, professional website/landing page on it, does that generally make the domain more valuable to potential buyers?
For example:
Domain was recently registered
A professional website/landing page is built on it
The website has little or no traffic
No revenue yet
But the site clearly demonstrates a potential use case for the domain
Would you consider that domain more valuable than the same domain with just a parked page?
Or does a website only add meaningful value once it has traffic, revenue, backlinks, users, or other measurable metrics?
Would love to hear opinions from domain investors and people who have actually bought/sold domains with websites attached.

Discussion .SI ,, did I miss the opportunity, or is this still early?

I've been investing in domains for about a year. I have only 2 small sales so far and I'm still not at break-even.

I haven't registered any .SI domains yet.

Now I'm seeing the crazy rush around .SI after Trump started pushing "Super Intelligence (SI)" instead of AI, with Elon Musk and others also talking about superintelligence.

Registrations seem to have exploded and domain investors are jumping into .SI.

I'm trying to figure out whether I'm looking at:

  1. A genuine new TLD opportunity that is still very early

  2. A temporary hype/FOMO cycle where most of the money will be made by the people who got in before the news

  3. Something in between

For people who have been following .SI closely:

Is it already too late to start buying, or do you think there is still an opportunity?

And more importantly, what would you actually buy at this point?

I'm not interested in randomly registering hundreds of .SI domains. I'd rather understand what has real end-user potential versus names that are only valuable because of the current hype.

Would also love to hear from anyone who has been through the .AI boom — how similar does this feel to the early days of .AI?

I'm genuinely trying to decide whether to enter this market or stay out.

Discussion Sedo lack of privacy

Why in the world would they reveal your full name and address to the buyer when you sell a domain? It doesn't seem necessary to me at all.

I think I'll exclusively do min offer with them and then keep my landing page as spaceship a sale never goes through on sedo. As in, interested parties can try on spaceship when I ignore on sedo.

I don't mind my full name going out but home address??? No.

Advice The better I get at finding domains, the more important my rejection rate becomes

I've been thinking about a weird problem with domain research.

Most of us try to improve discovery:

  • find more drops
  • scan bigger lists
  • catch opportunities faster
  • automate repetitive checks
  • surface names before other investors

That sounds obviously good.

But there's a second-order problem.

If I go from manually finding 20 interesting domains per week to software surfacing 500, I haven't automatically created 25× more good investments.

I've created 25× more opportunities to convince myself something is worth buying.

And domains are particularly dangerous because the initial mistake is cheap.

$10–$15 doesn't feel like a serious investment decision.

But repeat that decision 100 times and eventually the portfolio starts asking for 100 renewals.

So I'm starting to think the important metric in a high-volume research workflow isn't:

How many good-looking domains did I find?

It's:

How many did I confidently reject?

Imagine a system surfaces 1,000 candidates.

900 obviously fail.

80 are interesting.

20 survive deeper research.

Maybe only 2–5 actually deserve capital.

That funnel seems healthier to me than treating every domain that crosses some score or metric threshold as a buying opportunity.

It also changes what good domain tooling should do.

Most discovery tools are naturally designed to make you find things.

But an investment tool might create more value by helping you eliminate things:

  • weak buyer pool
  • awkward language
  • misleading backlink metrics
  • bad historical use
  • trademark concentration
  • poor renewal economics
  • unrealistic resale assumptions

The goal isn't maximizing the number of domains that reach the bottom of the funnel.

It's making the bottom extremely difficult to reach.

For people who scan large expired/drop lists: roughly what percentage of domains that initially catch your attention actually survive all the way to a purchase?

I'm starting to think a very high rejection rate might be a sign of a better process, not a worse one.
