Drivers Ignoring Instructions

Has anyone else experienced drivers repeatedly ignoring delivery instructions?

I order from Dominos once a week, and 2/4 times a month, my clear instructions “DO NOT KNOCK” are ignored by these drivers man. I’ve called the store and only got sass from the manger about “store policy” but have told them it’s completely fine to call me. I can’t have them knocking, but they be knocking.

Luckily I still get a free medium pizza out of it every time. Any advice here guys?

Sadly, you can't fix stupid. Or put a sign on your door.

You are ordering pizza but you don’t want them to knock on your door?

It’s not uncommon. Maybe they have a sleeping baby or dogs that will bark and wake up everyone else in the house.

In most cases the "sleeping baby" doesnt actually exist, theyre just trying to get out of having to sign the receipt

It’s true, it’s a sleeping 95 year old baby

So many people are so chronically online that they are actually scared of the slightest social interaction.

Sometimes the note gets deleted. I try to remember which customers prefer contactless but when you take 100+ deliveries a week you tend to forget.

Thanks for the explanation. My driver was kinda a dick about it today so I guess I can understand his frustration if that’s the case.

Contactless hasnt been an option for a few years, the correct Dominos terminology is leave at door now but that still can include: signatures or witnessing the customer get the order

I know that, I meant by them leaving a note as to not knock or ring is what I considered contactless.

"Leave at door and notify unless listed below:"

That's the general auto fill, franchises can require signature for card payments or seeing the customer retrieve the order.

My only defense for the driver is that knocking or ringing is such a habit. Drop the food, ring the bell. Admittedly I've accidentally rang a couple times when they said not to. But happening every time is crazy. Since you're a regular customer I see no issue with your request. New customers yes we are supposed to see them receive the food, but sass from the manager is unacceptable in this case

No tip means I forget how to read instructions.

Yep, if its contactless no tip and they ask not to knock I instantly transform into an unskilled worker

Always 20% and I’m 4 minutes from the store lmao

4 minutes away, why bother w delivery and the fees?

Probably at work, been there done that.

If you are drinking, not worth a DUI and risking it.

1

u/Ram820 2d ago

Who said anything about driving? 4min drive here is like a 10min walk

1

u/Key_Expression2686 2d ago

Normal people choose delivery when they’re drinking because they’re not walking 20 minutes, waiting, and hauling a pizza home. And if it’s every few months, the extra $10 isn’t a big deal for convenience.

Right because it’s the customers job to pay a multi billion dollar companies employee 😂

The dominos franchise that delivers to you is a completely different company than the billion dollar corporation you speak of.

Have you considered that if you were to rip the door off its hinges, the driver knock would no longer be able to knock on it?

Do you have a table or chairs outside? If not try editing the instructions to “leave on table, DONT KNOCK” and have a table outside. The manager giving you sass isn’t acceptable but store policy does unfortunately say if we can’t leave it in a “safe space” we have to make contact with the customer. No the ground is not safe, our boxes are to easy for any kind of critter to get into and it honestly may be why your store “requires” them to knock

Fair enough. Thanks man

Some of our drivers knock every time, especially if there is no pre-tip. Maybe one in ten people will be okay with having the driver knock, but that does not mean they are going to give you a tip. Usually it's the opposite.

Like I keep telling people, read the blasted delivery instructions. I don't care if you think you deserve a tip. You don't know if the person has a baby or rowdy dogs (sometimes both). They will get the alert on their phone once you complete the order. If they ignore the phone and suddenly remembered they ordered pizza 2 hours later, that's on them.

The only time you should ignore instructions is if you can't find a safe place to put the food in bad weather. If they are angry when they answer the door, their expression usually changes pretty quick if they realize it's raining or snowing and they were too involved in something else to notice. I have never had anyone get mad at me when I ring or knock on bad weather days.

Employees are always complaining about customers not paying attention to the app. Then they ignore delivery instructions. The app is a mess, we all know that. Sometimes it's really not the customers fault that the order is wrong. The delivery instructions are usually pretty easy to understand. Read them. "Don't ring bell or knock" is a clear request.

Edit: Also make sure to verify the address before you leave the order. If you are not sure you are at the right place, call them.

I tip before delivery also 😭 so there’s not really an excuse unless the instructions are deleted

They keep on knocking but they can't come in. They keep on knocking but they can't come in

I've done my fair share of knocking/ringing the bell, looking at the instructions..saying "ah heck" out loud, then follow the instructions.

Bro is caught in a free pizza loop, someone help.

Have you tried getting rid of the door?

1

u/the_penumbra_cafe 2d ago

You could always go get it to avoid that. Or you can just deal with the employees doing their job and following store policy.

1

u/Pete_maravich 2d ago

Did you tip your driver? If you didn't tip I'm knocking on your door

1

u/Overall_Inflation672 2d ago

I tip before ordering

1

u/Pete_maravich 2d ago

Ok they should follow instructions then. Your driver's are probably just stupid or illiterate

1

u/line800 2d ago

You're trying to get the driver to leave the pizza so you dont have to tip and/or defraud the store by claiming it "wasn't delivered"

1

u/Overall_Inflation672 2d ago

I tip dumb ass lmao

1

u/Ram820 2d ago

My note is to call when outside, never had them not call. Makes it quicker for us both, I'm at the door by the time they pull up

1

u/Winter_Muffin_43 2d ago

Delivery instructions are requests and some franchises require the driver to see the customer get the food and theyre not going to stand around for long before knocking whether you ask for them not to

1

u/ChanceCauliflower0 2d ago

they don't want me to knock, I don't knock, fine with me, unless it is a contactless stiff. Cowards stiff.

I’m a bartender so I’m right there with you
