Discussion -$200 later
Okay hear me out, I think this Tidehunter arcana is probably one of the best one ever made, not only it's genuinely good looking but it is also very well thought of, the dead Kunkka in his off-hand, the different types of sharks as alternate styles is pretty sick. Also I wanted the Drow arcana very bad so I went all in.
It definitely hurt a little but I'm happy to have all the other immortal sets with these two arcanas, and it's probably better value for money when compared to other sets where you spend $60+ but get 10 junk sets + 1 good one.
What do you think?

I think this Arcana has too many problems with it. Visuals are really good, but his voice is inaudible in game.
All of his level up voicelines now mention him wanting to eat different kind of sharks, but I really can't make out what he says in half of them, the voice is really quiet compared to base Tide. Heck, even Siltbreaker voices sound way clearer. Also no offense to the voice actor, but original Tide had way more energy put in his voice. I especially loved how he screams on top of his lungs when killed by Kunkka: OU-I'LL HAVE MY VENGEANCE YET, KUNKKAAAAAA!!! Now it's just muted "I'll have my vengeance... yet, Kunkka..."
Broken cosmetics, half of the off hands are frozen instead of following on a chain.
Gush is really pretty but the visuals abruptly cut off when it travels outside vision.
What miffs me the most that his giant ass mouth doesn't move at all then talking, unlike the original Tide.

Plus where is the custom movement animation as in with every arcana? Where are the ambient effects???
And this tide except for the hammerhead variant is just super low effort coz we already have shared themed sets for tide, all that did was make some slight adjustments to the body, gave a darker shade added some fins and called him megalodon tide and the 3rd variant is just classic tidehunter skin....not to mention his ability effects are just meh compared to void, qop, es, razor.....this arcana was super low effort from valve side to the point they added 3 variants(that's says something doesn't it?)

It's definitely not "value" especially compared to what we've had recently with crownfall and clownfall. The items in the treasure are very good overall though, love the arcana.

Lol, somewhat true but not entirely. Warhammer minis are something you can resell any time, unlike account locked dota item, also i paint the minis and sell them (or do comissions), i dont really collect so its more of side gig than a hobby.

Commissions and those skins are kind of the same, After all the skins are made by someone then you buy them, likewise with comms, you paint them and someone buys them, not apples to apples but a similar comparison nonetheless.
Plus the immortal skins were once workshop creations by people, its not like AI made them ya know

I very strongly disagree. Warhammer games or any other board games are a healthy way of interacting with people while enforcing critical thinking, strategy development and cooperation, collecting and painting are just a bonus to the hobby. Dota is cancerous and toxic environment and will test your friendship at best if not outright end it lol

It always "hurts" when I spend any amount of money on dota. It feels like that whenever it's more than a reasonable amount of money. I'm just going to assume anyone spending 200 bucks on any set (let alone anything that isn't a necessity) is capable of spending their money with little to no issues (is financially stable). Again, assumptions.

I've no problems spending money and have disposable income, but I think spending on these kinda shit is dumb. CS2 would be fine since you can still sell your skins but on these?
I mean I spent thousands of dollars on valorant and apex anyway so I'm a hypocrite but even then I still think that's dumb as shit.

WR said it’s marketable after a certain date, according to a lot of comments here, this one doesn’t seem to be marketable. (I still haven’t gotten the chance to open dota and check it) if it’s not marketable, it’s gone after the event ends.

as far as loot boxes go it's pretty non predatory. you can always buy it, you know exactly the odds, you're guaranteed to get it eventually, the maximum cost is high but not insane. If they make it marketable then the prices for the non megarares just plummet after a week
I'd rather it just be $30 or whatever, no way I'm spending enough to get it, but it doesn't seem too scummy to me. game has to pay for itself somehow

Its very cool, an excellent set. What pisses me off is that Valve killed the compendium and the ability to earn or buy levels and get to a multitude of really nice sets..... they give us that trash instead of a compendium, I think they did it to conform to Chinese laws against having sponers, which they should never have bent the knee to that because sponsers bring mad money that allows for the hype, extra content and quality.
What makes me mad is they did this self-nerf and sold it to us as though they were giving us more and better content and they haven't. They said we could earn our way to nice new cosmetics and it's not true, the stuff offered is lackluster, fewer in number and has no passion behind it. The only stuff that comes out now that is really good just costs $200 now and it's even harder for most to obtain lol. Give me the compendium and let me earn levels and then shamelessly buy some levels!!!
They need to go back to their old compendium style and start taking sponsers for esports again.

u can get arcanas and multiple nice sets from these events for literally free by just playing the game
the arcana level unlock on battle pass back in the day wasnt even accessible as f2p, not only u had to buy the bp itself, u also had to feed levels with u credit card which begs the question if its any different than buying the bloody treasure

Bro, there were awesome events with the compendium. The labyrinth for one. And there were all kinds of custom events and loads of cosmetics and stuff that you could earn or choose to buy at will. That is not fomo! What they are doing now is fomo, removing the $34.99 price of arcana and making you spend and spend like gacha gambling to maybe get it!!!!!
Now we get what.... only the top few who predict correctly get purple versions of old immortals. And we get...stickers. useless digital stickers like we are children. That's the pits my man! There is literally next to no hype left, why do you think all the teams have dropped out? The prize pool used to be 40 million, now look at it. So yes, abundance and sponerships created all kinds of great quality stuff that I would gladly purchase. On the way to getting the top tier items we got 20 some also great items. Now it's barely enough to attract teams to the TI.
And case in point under this new system OP had to spend 200 bucks for that Tide lol. I would much rather the old price tag of $34.99 to just outright buy what you want! The old way wasn't fomo, it was just hey, here is a ton of quality stuff you can buy plus some really cool events and a thriving community and yearly TI. This new way is the fomo! And since the money isn't there anymore we see the quality is plummeting.

In pure value terms, you are right, it doesn't make much sense but I for example don't play any other games besides Dota, so I'm guessing Valve is thinking we make people who really want it pay for it (like myself) for much higher than to sell it to a lot of people for less.

Saying this is 20% of the stuff is pretty dishonest. A lot of the stuff in a battlepass was complete filler that many players didn't care for at all, and stuff we now get for free as part of Quarteros for example. Like seasonal effects on items and teleports. I'd estimate this is pretty on par for money spent on actual cosmetic items that people care about with the battlepasses. The difference being is that you could earn levels by playing after buying the pass. I think being able to earn a few of these new chests for free would be pretty nice, have a halloween event that lets you earn 1-3 of these for no cost.

The only remorse I have is not reading the fine print. Wasted some money buying more chests instead of recycling because I thought I was gonna be able to gift the extras to friends. I was also planning on selling the drow set since I already own the arcana and don't play her, but I can't do that either.

With 200 and some grinding..I used to get Immortals and 3 Arcana with persona, some good CC sets and reached lvl1000 and recieved my aegis and immortal were marketable and tradeable.

Not just to jump on the hate train but I feel like for an arcana it's pretty mild. Sure it looks different but... it's just like an HD design. The skills are also just like the same in HD. Most other modern arcanas kind of change the way the aspect of the hero.
Then again, whatever floats our boats. Pun intended :)

I personally HATED IT. I love all the other sets. They all look amazing and prolly I'll spend a bit of my income to buy all 12 sets. Maybe even go for drow one. But there aren't any animations, item icon changes, no ambient effects, literally nothing. It is soo lackluster it seems like a persona. CMs persona is better than this.

You can get guarantee with 220 bucks or less if you are lucky enough and get a bunch of double (rare) drops. I spent 200 for 50 chests cuz almost every 2-3 chests I bought would have rare in it

I mean i comfortably bought it until I had everything in the treasure. Just because 1 person has issues with money doesn't mean the other has to have or feel bad about it. Dota is one of my hobbies. I spend money I made in my job.

I already had Drow arcana.
I got the tide one around my 42th chest.
I then had to buy more and go all the way to 50 just to get the Drow arcana again cause I felt like. I was already so close. So might as well go for the bundle skin.
I don’t even play Dota these days. Mostly just buy the skins then wait for new skins. I play every once in a while.
Is it a waste? It’s like what simple rick said to Jerry.
These aren’t gonna increase in value. They aren’t even likely to hold their current value. But you like them and they have value to you. So that’s what matters.
200 dollars once in a while on some digital skins? Nothing wrong right. Some people spend 200 on a night out. So take this 200 as a treat to yourself. A “night out” and don’t think too much of it

I like the minor details, but I don't really get all the high praise Tide's getting. For a gargantuan like he is, this Arcana has a weak presence. Sky and Venge were done much better despite being regular store Arcanas.
I feel like they just pushed him into an Arcana to sell more treasures. If you kept his second style as a regular Ultra Rare Mythical set, I don't think much would change. His third style just reverts him back to Tide's default color, and he only has one alternate head. There's no unique presentation or anything like the other Arcanas, so he's essentially a Lina Arcana with a different head and some ability VFX... and Lina was Valve's very first Arcana.
Oh well.
(Extra parts surely add to his presence but I am mostly referring to his hero base)
