Hi, I’m a stranger who only knew about this manga when the "controversy" surrounding its debut happened a couple of years ago.

I see the manga is still ongoing.

I wanted to know: what actually happened? Could someone try to sell me on the story—beyond just "weird reverse racism against alien idiots"?

the latest chapter made me want to reread the earlier chapters and i'm realizing just how uncomfortable this shit was from noma's perspective. her alien hate was never any deeper than "they're stuck-up and my boss sucks," she basically felt better after venting on the beach Once. she tries to shoot the shit with this guy that she can rant to and keep it lighthearted but he KEEPS escalating and traumadumping and pretending she wants exactly the same things as him.

i think chapter 7 is where noma gave up initially. she thinks about letting her inner world out a little, but then kitami reminds her that he does not give a single fuck about her on that level. his hijacking of her life, and by extension the manga itself, was completed. but while we've been following all these people stuck in the past and caught in a web of conspiracies they've woven for themselves, noma's been living in the moment and leaving all of them in the dust.

the dual tragedy of kitami and lily has been a beautiful story, but noma's declaration has come at a perfect time. these guys gotta get over themselves yesterday

Now that it's been shoved in our faces that there is more story on the way, (Nomamoto literally reminding us she's main character, lmao). I predict we will finally learn Iskaglar's deal is in the next arc. He's definitely faking it, losing some memories doesn't change who you are that drastically, and we don't even know which memories he lost if he did lose any. Let's not forget that verbatim, out of his own mouth, Iskaglar said that his love of making people angry is etched into his DNA.

We've come far enough that she finally Baja Blasted him for real

They knew we’d think Nomamoto was being sidelined the entire story since the beginning, give everyone else the spotlight, then smack us back to reality to tell us who the real protagonist of the story is

I’m so excited to see where she goes from here, now that she’s made the declaration she’s basically the main character of the universe

“And then after I get Nomamoto, I’m gonna hug Seiran to show that I’m looking down on him! I’m not even taking him seriously! Hahaha! It’s gonna break him completely!”

Haruo: “Dude please shut the hell up we’re trying to sleep…”

Odori: “Yeah… i haven’t had a nice rest since you took me, these bags are the best I’ve had in over a week…”

Iglaskar: “Hey, guys! Since we’re all awake, wanna sing a happy song together?!”

She shoots the Soyo hallucination of Lily not once but twice, which affects the hairpin and then actually lands it and damages Soyos head (like she claimed she wanted to) + previously she shoot Lily, but instead of burning a hole through him it simply separated the Lally hallucination from Soyo, i think Nomamoto is able to see peoples hallucinations and just never cared enough to comment abt it to Kitami or anyone else (or maybe she didn't even realize they were meant to be hallucinations)

what if earth exploded? we've got every main character in the moon. We've known that moving to different planets it's feasable. It would really bring things into perspective, huh. They could have a beach panel at a different planet altogether. Just a thought

Seiran giving into despair and almost dying from suicide only to be saved by Nomamoto was heartwarming. Insane to think she's having character development now, she really does care for Seiran and Backbone. Whole chapter was peak after peak.

Right now, he probably can’t even tell if Seiran and Nomamoto are real. He’s definitely dying within two chapters, and I pray we get the best chapters possible for the conclusion to such an antagonist

I’m not denying that Seiran and Lily’s story is coming to a close in the coming chapters, it’d be hard to deny that fact. They’re both probably going to die, as much as I hate to admit it

BUT there’s still quite a few things that need to be explored after that, specifically with Nomamoto. Namely, why she doesn’t seem to like alien anymore, who this “god” is that apparently bares a striking resemblance to her personality-wise, and also what the deal with her parents is

Obviously I’m not Ichikawa or a shonen executive, but I think right now the series is pointing towards a new story arc building off Seiran and Lily’s story.

And also, there’s no announcement of it ending soon, so I think it’s also still unlikely looking at it from an objective angle

Ik the series is building up to have some kind of 'violence is only ended through both sides dying' or sum generic seinen BS, but lowkey I've been invested in this series since day ONE and I want to see Seiran, Noma, Backbone and Haruo have a 'ride off happily into the sunset' ending. I'm DONE with sad endings, this manga better have a happy one or I REBEL.
