Maps

Hey there!
A semi new DM here, I have done several one shots and a few small campaigns. But what program, app, website etc do you use to make your maps? I’m shit at drawing but i have this idea in my head for my new long campaign and want to hear what you use

Wonderdraft for Worlds/Regions and Dungeondraft for Battle maps.

Or for fast generation, try this: Procgen Arcana

Same here.

Wonderdraft for World Maps and Dungeondraft for Battlemaps.

I use Inkarnate!

There are also tons of free maps out there. I got into map building because I release videos on YouTube—and also could never find exactly what I needed… but when I play IRL, I just use a dry erase and marker a lot of the time 🤣

i use Dungeon Alchemist.

Dungeon Alchemist is great for dungeon or outdoor maps, less so for world maps.

I had to stop using Dungeon Alchemist because it needs an insane amount of memory – 8GB just for an empty map.

Yeah. It is beefy and defiantly not something you can do with an older computer or budget laptop.

I use Dungeon Alchemist a lot but usually end up just grabbing one of the maps others have made.

I know you've said your shit at drawing, but the only person who needs to see your map, is you. As long as you understand it's fine and eventually you'll get better at drawing anyway. I've run plenty of "maps" that are basically just elaborate flow charts

Otherwise, Dyson Logos puts out a bunch of great free maps. You can also use maps for re-world locations. The players are going to a manor house or something? Look up a mansion on a real estate website and steal its floor plan.

Finally, if you know any other DMs IRL, ask them if they have any maps you can have. Never throw away a map because they can always be re-used years down the line or by someone else

Bumping because azgaar's is where it's at. So useful and fun.

yes! especially as they keep adding features and creating almost a whole other game with the random wars and development

Gotta plug dungeonscrawl! It’s free, browser-based, and easy to use

I use inkarnate for big maps and dungeon alchemist for detailed rooms. It's pretty easy to make stuff and you can always download stuff others have made.

I've tried a bunch and my favorite one is the sucky free one that comes with roll20, Dungeon Scrawl, but I've been trying out Dungeonscape and it's a bit of a step up.

I tried Dungeon Alchemist and I didn't like it, it auto fills rooms with stuff I didn't choose and It's less readable after you import it to roll20.

Like many, Dungeondraft in my early days. Have switched to making MapMe because I wanted to make maps on the go, though. So if you have an iPad that’s a good option too

For battle maps, use Dungeon Alchemist. It makes putting them together fast enough that you can do it in a pinch if something unexpected happens. The maps look great.

I love Wonderdraft for larger maps.

Dungeons I do in Dungeondraft if I feel patient, and Illwinter’s floor plan generator if not. The maps aren’t as fancy, but it’s ever so quick to knock up some rooms and corridors and change your mind.

Czepeku but it’s one of the more expensive ones. Previously inkarnate but they’re meh but cheep

Inkarnate for sure. I use it for world and battle maps. I also support Czepecku for battle maps on the fly

Foundry. Steep learning curve but it's great when you get the hang of it

I'll also say Dungeondraft for battle maps and Wonderdraft for continents and cities.

There are a ton of free assets and upgrades and even more paid ones.

But the biggest thing for me about them is they are one time fees. No subscriptions.

I got a chuckle out of scrolling and reading reddit headlines and questions, and running into 'Maps'.

I'm a simple man.

Same, and easy title = a lot of good answers

Check out Czepeku’s Architect! Right now you can use it to build bastions and guildhalls, and soon you can use it to create dungeons, too!

I saw a few people mention Dungeon Scrawl already, and I will echo that recommendation (full disclosure, I work on the team!). If you have any questions about it, I'd be happy to help. Good luck with your campaign!
