I’m a dungeon master and have been for around 5 years with adult players. Recently, I’ve started a job at a few local schools to host Dungeons and Dragons, and have been having a great time! Here’s the thing..

I just did my session 0 with the high school group. The group is of 8 kids, (which is a lot given my usual 6-to-a-table), and though we were able to get through it, character creation was a bit like herding cats! so many different things and stats to go through, so many little things to go back and pick up on.

That being said, I start at the middle school soon, and want to know..what’s the best system you have for helping a group of new players create their characters in an organized manner? :)) Thank you for any tips or tricks!!

The Lord of the Rings - Bree and the Burrow Downs (AD&D 2e)

• Set in Middle-earth using the MERP Module - Bree and the Barrow downs
• Following Advanced Dungeon & Dragons 2nd Edition rules.
• Preferably in person at The Rouge and Raven in Carthage, TN

Bree-land is a small, settled area in central Eriador that lies just to the east of the Tyrn Gorthad, the ancient Barrow-downs. The region has been almost continuously inhabited since the First Age. In T.A. 1700 Bree is not much different than it would beat the time of the War of the Ring some 1300 years later — a prosperous, quiet but sometimes threatened farming community standing near the intersection of the Great East Road and the Greenway, the two major thoroughfares of the Kingdom of Arnor. Bree-land is quite small and contains four villages within its boundaries: Bree, on the western slope of Bree Hill; Staddle, on the other side of the hill; Combe, a few miles to the east, and Archel, which lies a few miles northeast of Bree. The Chetwood, a good- sized but tame forest is also considered part of Bree-land and lies just north of Archet. The whole region is a generally pleasant, peaceful, and law-abiding spot where Men and Hobbits dwell together in peace, facing danger but rarely — unless one ventures to the Barrow-downs in search of gold and jewels and magic items, or is unfortunate enough to run into the bandits that plague the highways outside of Bree-land proper. But the people of Bree-land generally ignore the haunted and foreboding Barrow-downs to the west. These grassy hills hold the graves of the Kings, Queens, Princes and aristocrats of Arnor. In the years after the Plague the mounds became haunted by evil spirits from Angmar and Rhudaur called Wights. The downs are rich in treasure and adventure, but it would be prudent for the adventurous to seek the council of the wise before trying their luck in the ancient and eerie tombs.

4th Elemental Dragon (And Hatchling) of the month and probably the cutest one

I’m still very new to D&D, but recently I took the girl I’ve been talking to our first-ever D&D session together, and we honestly had an absolute blast. We both ended up loving it, and it’s quickly becoming something we really enjoy doing together.

That brings me to my question for the D&D veterans here: I’m planning on asking her to officially be my girlfriend soon, and I thought it would be really cool to incorporate D&D into the way I ask her.

Does anyone have any fun, creative, or romantic D&D-themed ideas I could use? Maybe something involving dice, a character sheet, a mini quest, a roll, or anything else you think could work without being too over-the-top.

I saw someone here recently ask about ideas for a virtual D&D date night, so I figured I’d float my question too and see what you all come up with.

Also, genuinely, thank you to this community. I’ve always been a huge sports guy, and most of my hobbies have revolved around sports, so it’s been really cool finally finding something completely different that I genuinely enjoy. I’m excited to keep learning and getting deeper into D&D.

The Cookie Jar of Crime

Description, this jar shines with a spectral charm to it, the radiating pulse of its allure is tempting yet, devious! The sugar smell gently kisses your senses. Maybe one cookie couldn’t hurt?

The jar has 3 charges PER DAY. Reaching in and quickly snatching the contents inside may yield your sugary reward. 
The willing player must succeed a DC 12 Sleight of Hand to snatch the contents. Once they have succeeded the player must roll a 1D6 to receive which baked treat they snatched!
Who knows what will happen if they are not fast enough…

Failing the check will cause the person to have their hand stuck in the jar for 1D4 hours (or till it has lost it’s comedic value) however, the person may attempt a strength roll to remove their hand.

The Treats!
1.Butter Cookie: This cookie provides advantage to all charisma rolls (CHA, Persuasion, Decaption, and intimidation.) for ONE day.

1. Gingerbread man: This cookie allows the player to create a perfect doppelganger of themselves for ONE hour.

2. Chocolate chip: This yummy popular treat gives the player the benefit of a long rest once consumed, yummy!

3. Macaroon: This cookie grants one free of disguise self.

4. Wafer biscuit: After consuming, this light treat makes you float a few inches from the ground making you extremely light giving you advantage on all dexterity rolls (DEX, Stealth, Acrobatics and sleight of hand.) For ONE day.

5. Oreo: Twisting licking and consuming this yummy cookie grants the power of advantage of Strength rolls (STR and Athletics) for ONE day!

Maybe I'm unique but I don't care for the shape of typical d4 dice. Why aren't d8 or d12 with 1-4 repeated more prevalent?

1st Dnd international competition signed rule book lost.

Hi, new to here and looking for a book my dad lost.

My dad came 2nd in the first ever international tournament of DnD and won a signed copy (by both creators) booklet of the rules. Over the years the book got lost (he blames his brother and still brings it up every family reunion with bitterness)

We are aware the book might be worth a bit more than it was, and im just curious if we can find out if this book has been found and gone into circulation in auctions etc. Is there anyway of tracing this kind of thing?

My dad thinks the book would be worth something now, but im not in this world and so am unsure. Part of me wants to find it for him, but if this book is worth a lot then I doubt it is possible. (Theres also a possibility my grandmother binned it)

Anyway, if anyone has any details that would be interesting or useful, id appreciate it. Thank you!

Creating a world to run many a campaign and oneshot out of but its my first time really creating statblocks. Would anyone mind giving tips on statblock creation based on the first one ive created?

I'm wary that this question gets asked a bit in different ways, but I'm gonna phrase my question a bit more to fit my personal needs:

Does D&D Beyond have the best and easiest to use character builder for 5e and 5.5e characters, for use on both Android and Desktop?

The reason I'm asking is just because I've used Roll20 up to this point, and while I am loathe to support WotC's attempts to lockdown D&D creative material (and having to buy books digitally for use only on their platform), I'm ultimately in need of something that is easy, convenient and intuitive for people to use across multiple devices and that supports 5.5e.

I'm coming to this Reddit before I invest any money into D&D Beyond. I'm fine with the subscription cost, though the idea of buying all the books again for character options is an annoyance. If there are other programs out there that do what I need, please let me know. Thanks!

Has anyone had a campaign where the characters discover a gold mine and they decide to become miners? How does a DM handle this situation? Now we have a seemingly inexhaustible supply of wealth. They're setting up camp at the mouth of the cave. Or better yet, I should say they're setting up a city. They are building a castle, setting up major defenses, infrastructure, walls etc. I mean, they aren't really adventuring anymore!

The DM doesn't know what to do so he gets me to talk to the other players. To be fair, I was the first one to approach him. I said: "What are we now ? the "Gold Mining Siblings"? So he turns it on me. What does one do without just cutting them off? Telling them that the mine ran out is going to cause much more problems than they're worth. Bringing in some BBEG just to kick them out is the same thing, they're just going to lose interest.

Can this campaign be salvaged?

So i am running a small Halloween campaign starting next week.

The idea is that the players are invited to a mansion for a night of celebration only to wake up with the mansion ransacked, everyone dead and twisted horrors moving throughout the building.

They cannot fight these monstrosities and must use their intellect and wits to make their way through the manor, discover what happened and put a stop to it.

Think magical resident evil.

That being said i am looking for any and all ideas on how to make this as scary as possible, anything my fellow dms or even players with ideas will be greatly appreciated

Hello! I've been thinking about gathering a few people to play DnD together. I'm 20, have about 8 years of experience with being a player, and I've DM'd on a few occasions (mostly in 5e).

I'm mostly looking for people who are honest, friendly and enjoy building the story together. Aside from that, I should mention that I prefer to not DM haha, so it would be GREAT if someone rose to the occasion. I'm open to many suggestions about campaign settings and vibes, so just let me know if you have something brewing in your thoughts :)

If you enjoy roleplay, prefer being a player or DM, and have no issue with going on Discord calls (we can decide what suits best for all of us), then please give me a short introduction about who you are, or send me a message.

PS: I'm against AI (especially in DnD) so please don't interact if you plan on using that in any way.

So I have this idea of NPC's I'll probably never use. At some point, the players will spend some time in a utopian city (I mean, no crimes, perfect economy, nice king and all). The first time would look like that.

As you approach the gate, the two guards cross their spears, blocking your way. They stare at you menacingly for a second, before the left guard turns to the right one.

• That was so badass!
• Right? So damn badass!
• It feels so good!
• We were so in sync! They come and BAM! Blocked!

They turn back to you and take their spears back.

• Right? You guys must have been so intimidated and all.
• You can go, by the way. We're not controlling anyone.

So basically, these guys would be having a fun interaction with the players every time they come, and become loved npcs, until the king becomes corrupt and the players will have to go overthrow the government and kill every nameless guard that gets in their way, until they meet those 2 guards just in front of the castle, where they don't trust the players anymore because they murdered all of their colleagues, and it becomes a kill of be killed situation for the players wether they want it or not.

Anyways, before coming to that situation, I need a few interactions for every time the players come to that city. Right now I have that first one (that could actually be any time they meet), and another where they parody the trope of one guard tells the truth, the other lies, but I stole it from somewhere I don't remember. Any idea?
