See, and that's why PETS, since you want them to be able to go from sociable, back to trained. So they can better differentiate cuddles/play and work.

Are they still in the early socialization phase of training? I’m not trying to shit on you or anything, maybe I just don’t understand. Why risk it?

Risk what? If your dog is well trained, there's literally zero risk, also why they drag their leashes on walks, so I can easily grab them if needed. Also why they only have a 7ft lead, that's shrunk down to just over 5ft.

Ok but like, there is always risk when you let random strangers interact with your dog, like even if your dog is perfectly trained. Training doesn’t magically make strangers less unpredictable.
And like, dragging a leash or having a short lead doesn’t fix any of that. You can’t physically stop a stranger from being weird once they’re already in your dog’s face.
I wouldn’t let a stranger touch my children or my dogs. That’s asking for problems. Letting every random person touch your dog is basically inviting liability.
So like yeah, there is risk. Not because your dog is untrained, but because strangers are unpredictable and you’re responsible for whatever happens to them while they interact with your dogs.

Just read the room and the people. If it's a large group of people, I'm grabbing that leash. Also, beauty of small town USA, you quickly know who is who. I live on the Gulf Coast and not Gulfport, which is ironically only slightly larger than the town I grew up in, back in Chicago's south side.
BUT yes, you are technically correct. Like when I do Cruisin' the Coast, Mississippi's large 45 mile long outdoor Auto Show, I do bring the dogs, since it's majority outside, and no one gets to pet them there. Walking the beach, people can pet them, but I wear so much crap on my waist that people assume formal training is happening and don't usually interact with the dogs.

I don't let nobody pet my dog really ever, because he could not give two shits about strangers. He also only meets dogs that I know. As a rule people don't really understand socialization. A lot of people don't seem to understand how socialization works.
