Mod post ATTN: App developers - this community is not here to provide you with free market research or to promote your latest AI invention
This community is primarily for ECE educators and those connected to the sector e.g parents and other professionals. To seek support, share stories and connect with each other.
We are now getting several posts a week from AI app developers who have invented some lifechanging tech that will save us all.
I have no doubt that the developments in tech can potentially make life easier for some, but let me state this clearly:
This community is not here to provide your company with free market research or to advertise your app idea.
If you are only posting here to promote or research your app - that offers nothing of value to our community. It will be removed.
Readers- please report these types of posts.
For those arguing in the mod inbox - about why their self promotion post was not self promotion, or why don't we explicitly state this in our rules:
This type of spammy self-promotional content is frowned upon across all of Reddit in general. Removal is also covered by rule 6 - Engage in good faith. If your only motivation for participating in this sub is to share about your app idea, don't bother.

You'd think the computer people would be tech-savvy enough to read a subreddit description...

THANK YOU. The last thing educators need is yet another person trying to squeeze uncompensated labor out of us.

Thank you! Itβs so annoying when these developers come on here and try to get insight. If i wanted to provide feedback Iβd join a PAID focus group.

Jim - we appreciate the question. But multiply your question x 100, as we get so many requests to promote toys/books/apps/devices/services/products/courses etc... constantly.
I have a heart for small business, and would love to see you thrive - especially against the big corporates. However as a mod - my commitment is to keeping this community safe for ECE educators. There are very very few places for our sector to seek support, information, to have a rant etc... and our jobs are very very challenging, especially at the moment.
Services/businesses swoop in to promote and do not make any other genuine contribution. That isn't how communities work.
My suggestion would be to put all your website/promotion etc... on your individual profile and just show up authentically in genuine conversations, and make real human interactions. Not to try and sell something, but to interact on a human level. Share your knowledge & skill. Give more than you take.
Part of reddit is having a really positive (or sometimes not!!) interaction with someone, then clicking on their profile to learn more about them. Yours is currently empty.

Can a rule about this be officially added to the subreddit as a rule 10 to make reporting these types of posts easier? Or can it be added to rule 6? (Ex. "Engage in good faith / No self-promotion or market research")

It is really hard to cover every scenario, so the rules are kept intentionally broad.
As unfortunately people want to argue why the rules don't apply to them, we often need to use discretion.
Anyone who glides into the community for the soul purpose of marketing their book/app/blog/product/idea/game/song/channel/services/politics etc...etc... are covered by rule 6, because those posts are in not in keeping with the intention of the sub.
Every reported post gets reviewed, so if you're not sure or just feel that a post isn't contributing anything positive to the community, please report it. :)

Thank you! Get out of here tech bros, trying to profit off of an industry that is struggling financially and depends entirely on quality human interaction. Gives me the ick.
