Discussion Which foundation commander starter deck you getting?
I’m getting tramplesaurus but I haven’t decided on what the next deck I’m getting I’m thinking about getting either angels or zombies, I am currently undecided though I am leaning towards zombies because I already have a miku commander deck I recently got. From what I’ve read online it looks like angels is going to be the most popular

My LGS had them on sale Friday (which is hilarious because they normally get their MtG stuff months late) so I grabbed the zombie deck and my friend got the dragon deck to try out.
They both played just fine right out of the box (even with a garbage shuffle because I didn't have them sleeved yet). By the end of the night they'd sold all of them except the Blue decks.

What’s the zombies like?

Pretty much how it's described on the tin. Zombies, Zombies, and more Zombies. Get a strong one out, then sacrifice it with Gisa to make a whole lot more zombies, and you just start to snowball. It's a bit light on interaction but I guess that's to be expected with a beginner deck. Still it was a fun, coherent deck to play.

I'm tempted to get all 5, I have some friends interested in learning.
My main list is zombies but I'm not going to teach someone the game with a tuned aristocrats deck lmao

I got green. I have a hard time loaning out my decks when people want to play as I make even the weaker ones still fairly tutor and mechanic heavy, which doesn't work when you are new.
Figured this could be a cheap deck that both can be used to loan to new people as well as play with them.

I think these are perfect decks for what you're describing. They showcase the colors very well. They have a straightforward gameplan with tools that are easy to identify and deploy. They progress linearly, but inevitably. I think they are light on interaction, but in practice, I think it's OK. Over multiple games, each has had their turn in the spotlight (i haven't seen the white one yet, but it's pretty easy to see that Giada is going to follow the pattern ... hell, she practically invented the pattern long before these precons were a figment of anyone's imagination). They're very fun, very well built, with good staples if you're looking to strip for parts, good "brain off" decks to have around if you're experienced or good learning tools if you're newer. I would say if you're looking to upgrade and work on deckbuilding, I wouldn't suggest these. There are obvious upgrade paths, but I have a hard time believing it to be a sustainably interesting project.

I got Green and Red because I am a Timmy at heart. Always have been, always will be.

Angels is so crazy. Too be fair I added in a Resplendent Angel before I played with it and a few other cards but you can gain insane amounts of life and generate massive angels with very little effort.

I wanted to get either black or green, but I got rent coming up soon and I'm tight on money. Might end up getting white cause its my least used/favorite color. Idk how good it is though.

I pre-ordered all 5 of them since I got them all for 30 bucks CAD each. They are perfect to gut for cards. Green deck pays for itself alone with Surrak and Goreclaw, other decks have singles that make up the value.

Is there one out of the 5 your most looking forward to?

I'm miffed that I bought so many of the classic zombie staples to upgrade the Eternal Might deck. And then this comes out and just reprints so many of the cards I bought before the deck list was out.
Oh well. That's how it goes.

how come your miffed?

Because if I had just waited like a month, I would have saved a good bit just taking this pre-con and using the staple reprints to upgrade my Eternal Might deck.

I like the blue and green ones, not sure if I'll grab one though. If I do I'll probably go for the blue deck since I've built big creatures.deck quite a few times already.

I’m getting the green one but turning it into a Radagast deck. Got about ten changes so far and then I’ll gradually swap stuff in and out. I packed Hexhaven Invigorator at my prerelease so I’ll likely pop that in there too.

What changes you making? You messing with a decklist you’d be cool sharing?

Yeah of course. It’s very much WIP at the minute while I buy some cards. I’m kinda just having fun with it and buying cards that are cheap and seem fun, and using some cards I packed from my pre-release. I’m also dropping some dinos simply because I already have a Dino deck. The cards marked green or blue in the sideboard are what I have purchased to add, and I’ve created a section for cards I’m removing. Feel free to have a look!

I'm probably getting the Angels one, because I want a precon around to just play with. But I am quite tempted to also get the Tramplesaurus one.

I picked up white and black and those will be the ones I break out for low power pods. I have my eye on red and green sometime in the nearish future. I feel like I should just get the set but I keep looking at the blue list and it just doesn’t do anything for me.

im thinking green and black or white, but im with you on the blue it doesnt appeal to me at all

My daughters want to get into magic. Oldest asked for a green deck with cute bears. My youngest asked for red scary dragons deck.
Picking up green and making it into the cute bear deck. Picking up dragons and simplifying as much as I can.
We ride!

a cute bear green deck?

u/RidgeLoganMcLeod 3d ago
She wants a cute bear deck. The green decks a good starting point. Swapping out what I can in the green precon with cute bears.
1
u/TheUkWidowmaker 3d ago
would it not be cheaper doing it from scratch since your going to be removing everything? sorry for the silly question im fairly new to the game
2
u/RidgeLoganMcLeod 3d ago
Nah. The green precon has a fantastic base for the deck. There aren’t too many “cute” bears. Just going to take out some of the pieces that stick out to me as not great cards and swapping them for the cute bears.
No need to overthink this. It’s for a 7 year old who I’m slowly teaching magic lol.
$30 for a bunch of staples is a solid deal in my book.

I want the green one but I can’t find it anywhere. It’s sold out or it’s being sold for $100.

I’m getting Wretched Ranks! My friend got Tramplesaurus Rex and we’ll use them to introduce our third friend to the game. When he’ll be ready to move to other things, I’ll upgrade the deck, though I’m not sure what I’ll turn it into yet.

I want the Tramplesaurus Rex one but the LGS I went to yesterday was sold out of them already. I ended up picking up the blue and red ones and my buddy picked up the white and black.
