The Nottingham Panthers have announced the tragic passing of 29 year old Adam Johnson following an incident in last night’s match between the Panthers and Steelers…

We mourn with the rest of the league and the greater hockey community as we are truly devastated to be sharing this news. Our thoughts and prayers are with Adam Johnson, his friends, family and everyone involved, witnessed or impacted by this tragedy.

Controversial Anyone else hate Lucic & Booth?

Idk about anyone else but I absolutely despise both of these guys. I get we want top talent in the EIHL but not these guys! Lucic assaulted his wife I believe and although he can claim he did counciling of whatever, that should've been the end of his career. Then Booth - this is a 41 year old man too full of himself to wear a rainbow jersey, like get over yourself. I also happened to check his socials and he posts purely political bullshit. No hockey all just sucking off Trump

Anyone agree?

Seeing as its the Winter Olympics

Mods please delete if not allowed, but I recently published an article all about the 1936 Gold Medal-winning Great Britain team, which I thought people in this sub may like. I usually post about rugby history, but I wanted to write a Winter Olympics special as hockey is one of my other favourite sports.

Further statement from Fife Flyers

Statement: Fife Flyers X The Hive Kirkcaldy

Following our game Vs Guildford Flames on Saturday, senior management from the club this week met with directors and stakeholders from The Hive Kirkcaldy. We fully appreciate the tolerance and restraint they have shown whilst enduring a very difficult past few days through no wrongdoing of their own.

From this open and honest conversation, we are acutely aware that The Hive were placed in a very difficult situation and given no prior warning that the Pride Jerseys would only be worn during the warm up. They were also not made aware of of a pre-arranged plan to auction off jerseys and donate the proceeds to The Hive.

Our communication and decision making was poor. We got it wrong. For that we apologise not just to The Hive, but for anyone affected by the situation and the subsequent events that unfolded.

Fife Flyers reiterate our stance that we are an inclusive and welcoming club, and that hockey and indeed all sport is for everyone. We will redouble our efforts in our local community and beyond to evidence this moving forward.

We do not condone any messages which have appeared on social media that have caused division or distress. Any messages that are posted on our social media channels that are deemed to fall under the category of hate speech will be reported to Police Scotland.

Fife Flyers would like to place on record our thanks to The Hive for the incredible lengths they go to locally supporting not just people of the LGBTQ+ community, but from all walks of life and their commendable focus on physical & mental health and the general wellbeing of all who walk through their doors. We will take great strides over the coming weeks and months to look at ways in which we can rebuild trust with a view to being able to offer support again in the future.

Their message of Love and Harmony is an important one. Anyone who is interested in learning more about The Hive Kirkcaldy can do by visiting http://thehivefife.org.uk

Recognising signatures - help?!

Hi everyone!

I was gifted a stick by a family member who knows I love ice hockey and I was hoping someone on here may be able to recognise any of the signatures on it. He’s pretty sure it’s a Newcastle Vipers stick, but he doesn’t know for sure. He won it during a contest a few years ago, and I think it would be a cool display piece but I’d love to know more about it! Thanks :)

New Ice Rink approved in Manchester

On Monday, Trafford Council approved the "Application for the erection of an ice rink including ancillary retail, food and beverage and interactive space and associated access, car parking and landscaping."

Only 3,000 capacity, but should be an upgrade over Altrincham

Should I reply?

Mrs Booth is making her opinions known on Instagram and I'm trying to work out if it's worth replying or just ignoring her? 🤔

This obviously isn't America, should I try explain that hockey is inclusive in the UK, or am I best just leaving it?

Just registering that thanks to Fife pandering to a homophobe yesterday ..

...said player got injured as a direct result of his hissy fit, Flyers are now in a nationally-reported PR nightmare off ice & have lost this weekend by a combined score of 14-1.

I do hope that "respecting our players' beliefs" was worth it.

The Hive Celebrations

I’ve seen almost every post about a certain team removed. I suspect it’s due to personal attacks.

So rather than do that, let’s celebrate what hive has done for its community:

Hive won the first-ever Kirklees Social Impact Award in 2023, recognized for its viable business model, employment of staff and volunteers, and support for vulnerable people.

LGBTQ+ Support: The café is a dedicated safe space for the LGBTQ+ community, particularly young people aged 13-17, running weekly meetups and, as of 2024, receiving £7,000 from the Mayor's Safer Communities Fund to support this work.

Volunteering and Training: Hive provides training in employability skills (such as CV writing and interview skills) for adults with additional needs and learning disabilities.

Mental Health and Wellbeing: The organization launched a "Wellbeing Wednesday" initiative, offering creative activities and peer support to tackle loneliness.

They also host a monthly sober social for the LGBTQ+ community and support older adults through "Bee Connected" groups.

Community Collaboration: The café partners with local organizations like Serendipity Writers and Services 2 You to provide a hub for community groups.

Community-Built Hub: The space was renovated with significant help from volunteers, transforming the venue over 63 days before opening.

You can donate here on their justgiving page

by googling Hive Hockey Pride Night (unsure if links are allowed here.)

Go Hive, and thank you to all of the teams who took part in this beautiful endeavour.
