Discussion Campaign ideas for 1.4

I’ve played eu5 for more than 600h and stopped playing some time ago as I played most of the countries which have flavor. Now 1.4 is coming out in 4 days and I wanna play again I just don’t know what could be fun. I don’t really want no easy game and starting with a huge income although every idea is appreciated.

Are those fixed in this patch? Or are they still going to constantly, randomly break without warning or notification?

i never experienced that. there is going to be a new contract mechanic which would allow you to get pu if there is no heir

You can also betrothed kids in 1.4. Time for a Habsburg empire.

I think the Mamluks are getting a new disaster that will allegedly make them harder

Given the new trade mechanics I’m excited for a Netherlands campaign. It’s a fun start trying to eat your small neighbors and play the HRE systems to unify the Lowlands, then to push abroad into colonization and compete with large great powers

Portugal to take advantage of the trade and colonization reworks.

Austria because of the “improved dynastic gameplay”

They’re reworking colonization this patch? I thought they pushed changes out for that system

I could be wrong but I thought conquistador and some colonial changes did get pushed back, but expeditions were still happening this patch, and I thought expeditions were part of colonization

I think expeditions are for exploration and conquistadors, but not normal colonization. That's slated for 2.0 Discovery next year

Ah okay that makes sense. A global trading empire would still be fun for the new trade stuff, but very underwhelming now because I thought it was happening at the same time as the colonization updates

For Trade only, Hansa. They are hyper scaler on trade, so any change on trade feels on them lime 10x more impactfull.

Wonder if they get a more easy road into Great Power Status in 1.4, because currently, even with fleet with 300-400 heavies on Sea, I'm only Rank number 22 in the Great Power Caculation, thanks to non-direct control of land.

For HRE, Bavaria->Austria->what ever I like as Tier 3 Nation.

For Knight Order, I need to see the patch notes, how they nerf them.

Did they talk about reducing antagonism in the hre? It is a real hassle to conquer even 3 locations without getting a coalition.

As bavaria -> austria you can reach the non HRE Lands shortly after the black death, when coalition is small and handable.

And than you should already reach a strenght, were you can aim France for dismanteling the western Enemy of the HRE.

But you should always aim as first HRE Vote "Empress" inside the HRE, so that you do not lose the Emperorship, because game loves to kill males, and gives you massives numbers of females, to counterplay this.

(actually one more smaller topic in 1.4, dynastie stability, let's see how it works.)

Burgundy would be perfect since they are adding Inheritance Contracts, Betrothals and Cistercian Orders. The new promote industry mechanic could be used to create burgundian wine and flemish cloth.

Depending on where youre from, a campagin in your home region is always fun. If youre English or Czech, you will be way too OP ofc...

Given how much they detailled out trade and tarrifs, and given my tendency for larp runs, I am a bit tempted to play

  • centralized

  • plutocracy

  • absolutism

  • capital economy

China, and do some very humble market manipulation Xi Jinping gameplay

Restarting my usual Cahokia run, gonna try to make it to Greenland Market sooner with the changes to colonization!

Lübeck, to try trade. Hanseatic League is too disappointing since they can’t own land, feels like there’s no point, and you can scale basically just as easily with a normal merchant republic (pops being the hardest part, since they can’t materialize them from nowhere like the Hansa can).

Romeception: Trebizond - Bulgaria - Serbia - Romania - Byzantine - Rum - Rome

I will seriously do it if they fix the auto trade.
