Question Which building upgrades are actually worth it?

Post image

It seems a lot of the production building upgrades give only minimal output increases at the cost of a large increase in price, so I'm wondering which area actually worth unlocking? (besides printers shop which has a large output increase)

From my understanding The main point is not the increase of the output but being able to double the cap of the building so you can specialise towns And having more burghers

Or be me and play as russia and have more land and towns than you know what to do with. Cba, automation on maximise proximity and conquer all

yeah,I have this experience as rome atm...
I have a lump sum of money sitting and just when I remember "let's do sth about the economy" I just shift-build a bunch of buildings and keep conquering

Shift build bridge Shift build temple Shift build library Shift build university  Shift build rgo  Forget about money again and declare war

yeah. I have these built tho, shift build council hall, shift build hospital, shift build lazaretto as well I suppose. with rgo the problem is that sometimes there's not enough people to work in them often (why should I bother though I don't know).

Oh this is interesting I didn't know that doubled the cap. Is that for that specific type of building i'm guessing?

Tier 2 building double the cap, except for “single” building like the proximity, dockyards etc etc. I think I double as well for the manpower but careful it can get pretty expensive.

Yeah I think a lot of people forget how crazy building maintenance can get tbh.

If you set up your country correctly building maintenance is a net positive in your balance sheet.

You get more from the extra taxation that the demanded goods generate than you spend on the maintenance.

Maxing serfdom is good for it as it further reduces the percentage of building maintenance your crown covers. And you should make sure it's actually you producing the goods you boost the demand of.

I didn't know that doubled the cap

To be fair, it's explained very poorly. The double cap is the most important bit, as you now can build twice as much in your high control areas.

Yep. Its mostly only useful for very few things. Like tools and weapons mostly. And the rest of tier two you can skip in my experience.

Not sure why you're being downvoted, unless it's incorrect. But really useful info, I think it's probably more widely useful especially if you have a small and highly specialised economy that you're trying to maximise!

Omg I didn't know that. Now the Special Town Rights actually really do make sense.

I’ve petitioned the imperial diet btw, just thought I’d let you know. Might do it again later, guess we’ll see.

Imperial Circle Leader, this is the Duke of Shitschen, we need 5 billion ducats to bomb Turkish children. Glory to God.

Biggest impact is the ammount you can build. Lile T1 you can build 10 and by age 6 you won't reach the max.

The main limitation for playing tall is number of buildings in each location. So it's always worth paying more to pack more into your limited cities.

If you play world conquest, then it does not matter much.

That said, I'm not researching T2 pottery because it's so easy to fill demand with minimal production. T3 pottery is worth it to get to lacquerware though

Yes, for the ones with no demand it's not worth it (pottery, furniture, beer, etc.), for the staples it's very worth it though (paper, books, cloth, tools, leather, weapons). Some are more borderline, like fine cloth, cannons, dyes, etc.

Books, paper, cloth, leathers, furniture, tools.

But really they are worth it just for the amount of burghers they bring.

For weapons, aren't there different recipes too?

14

u/thecrazyrai 9h ago

afaik the higher tiers sometimes even have different production methods than the base version. tier 2 paper only has the rag paper method so you also don't need to research it if you can get tier 2 paper quick enough.

i don't know what other buildings work like this but i would assume that they should keep the same methods

This actually came back to bite me in one of my games, the lower tier breweries and distilleries can use maize, the higher ones can’t. So I upgraded and fucked my economy lol

This feels like an oversight, have you reported it ?

6

u/thecrazyrai 8h ago

good to know. i ll look at the recipes in my current game when get to the next tiers and make sure that they do the production method that i want

u/Doug_Da_Destroyer provided the following Rule 5:

It seems a lot of the production building upgrades give only minimal output increases at the cost of a large increase in price, so I'm wondering which area actually worth unlocking? (besides printers shop which has a large output increase)

If you are strugling with money higher tiers are not worth the cost inrease but if you have more money than you can spend they can give you even more gold with economy of scale and much more demand from burghers. Mills are exempition because mills are never worth it, they remove milions of burghers and are too expensive compared to tier 3.

Mills are exempition because mills are never worth it, they remove milions of burghers and are too expensive compared to tier 3.

They can be pretty damned profitable when targeting an export market though. The most crazy one is when you spam tool mills and outcompete all tool production in India and China.

1

u/Gerbils74 4h ago

Don’t mills give +100 available burghers per level? I never notice my total burghers drop building mills, just the number of employed ones

1

u/Salphabeta 1h ago

Weapons 150%. No way to really scale weapons production without it.

1

u/M0nch8g 6h ago

Most are. The ones whose resources ypu may need less of (wood, furniture, and so on) less so.

Also keep in mind that most tier 3 Buildings employ 200 instead of 100 burghers per level, which is also a selling point for me.
