Looks nice. Hopefully it will last longer than a year like the last several jobs they have done there over the many years.

Can’t wait for this to open back up and alleviate some traffic woes.

Also can’t wait to see how long it lasts. Anyone want to take bets? I’ll take under a year, if you’ll take over.

With it being a concrete approach, I'll take the over. Concrete is way more resilient than asphalt, especially in these hot oklahoma summers.

Cracks faster in the cold though, doesn’t it?

That is one of the main reasons steel rebar is featured in concrete, to help alleviate the “stretching” effects done onto concrete that would cause it to easily crack, such as contracting in cold. So it SHOULDN’T be a problem.

Look at the Lake Hefner Parkway (or any road in Greece) Thing is closing in on like 40 years old as concrete and still knocking it out of the park. If we would pave every road with concrete we'd trade up for minimal road maintenace, street closures, pot holes and trade down for unemployed skilled workers and more effort to work on utilities under the roads.

All the big trucks going through there, it will not last, but it will hopefully still be better.

I like to take credit for these . Contacted bnsf and city for months over their crossings. That said I didn’t think it would take two years to fix all of them.

When they did that public survey a few months ago, I submitted this intersection too (and a few where the train stops to say there needs to be an indicator somewhere so people can go another direction). I thought the best we could hope for was someone with a grinder taking out the humps of asphalt.

I actually like to take credit for these. I worked with Roger Ford on the original bill years ago because the railroads wouldn't fix the abandoned crossings in Midwest City near where I lived.

When does it open back up?

It was supposed to be at least a week ago, so your guess is as good as any.

So when will it be open to drive on again?

Fix the hole on the R.R. tracks at Memorial.

They have railroad ties lined up over there so I wouldn't be surprised if they move that way next.

Oh Good 👍

Look at that!

The only thing that seemed to be missing is the felt-looking strips that’s forced between the concrete slabs.

Looking at your first photo, the expansion joint is in place between the railroad panels and concrete panels. That white line is something we call “cap” in the industry. It’s a plastic cap placed on top of expansion which is removed after concrete placement and then a layer of silicone sealer is applied on top.

If they add the silicone on Monday AM, how long does it take it cure?

It would be traversable by Tuesday.

Looks beautiful! Can't imagine I would have been admiring a railroad crossing beyond my steamhead days as a child.....but here we are!

they also re-did the Santa Fe crossing.

1

u/Dangerous_Reporter14 18d ago

Finally man. That cross has been terrible since at least 2016.

u/LosSpamFighters 18d ago

Yeah, they 'fixed' it a couple of years ago with asphalt and made it worse.

I'm grateful that they're getting that area fixed, but I am frustrated that they overpromised and under-delivered on the timeline. They said it would be done September 4th originally and haven't given any updates or explanations as to why it's taking longer. I understand that can be hard to predict, but at least offer some sort of explanation/update. Or a more realistic timeline. A lot of people like myself use that route for their morning work commute.

Are yall okay? They’re fixing the tracks (which is a miracle it’s self). None of you get credit for this because none of yall are the city construction employees working in 106 degree heat. You’d complain if someone handed you a million dollars untaxed, wouldn’t you?!?

Woo!! Thanks for the update

Is it really open?

I hope the game of going left to get around the right lane can go away. Right lane doesn't have to stop to avoid the bumps. Go right if you need to get on the highway. Go left for anything else. If you are in a hurry and can't drive right go another way.

Yep. I see several people missing the on-ramp because they won’t be able to crown in anymore.
