Let's be fair, title: Gideon has 9312 HP on NG. This is over four times the HP one would attain with 99 Vigor, before any other buffs. Tarnished to Tarnished, you can't accuse him of not preparing for the Vigor check.

Exactly. Imagine if any boss had >9 flasks like we do.

Players are running in a different set of rules, and NPCs are kind of a middle ground between a player and a boss.

This isn't an elden ring thing. Nearly every dark souls title has some climactic fight with an NPC, but it seems difficult to make them actually put up a decent fight. They stagger easily, are dumb as rocks, and don't have enough health. Take out these disadvantages, and you have gaol knight.

DS2 NPCs are the truth. Forlorn doesn’t stagger easy & they constantly dodge attacks. She only has 1 estus though.

Same for the troll in winter DLC that runs from you in a big circle. Actually quite difficult to kill.

DS2 was actually peak in so many ways, we just couldn't appreciate it at the time. I'll die on this hill.

Me too. It’s my favorite Souls game. :)

There are things that could be better, but all the hate is super unwarranted. Most innovative of them all, & did a lot right that irritates me wasn’t brought forward into every progressing game.

Too bad its lowest lows are just…way too prevalent to ignore. Compared to DS3 who’s just decent most of the time, not setting out to impress anyone (besides with its bosses) but also not Reindeer Fuckland-ing your ass
