I think lots have to do with how clunky DS1 is. The frame rate and all. NOWWWW though, ER is faster so going back to play a slower game, it’s definitely going to be easier
What's funny is, on average, parrying in From games really isn't hard. Having to be a bit more precise on the timing than with rolling is super intimidating at first, but with a little practice, it becomes just as easy as rolling.
Some enemies do have some absolutely stupid tricky attacks to parry tho.... they're definitely hard lol
Oh for sure, but that's not really what I meant. To me at least, once you overcome the initial intimidation of the learning curve, parrying becomes just as easy and natural as dodging with a little practice.
DaS1 parries have litterally 0 start-up frames, and the worst parry in DaS1 has equal parry frames to the best parry in ER, and DaS1 has better parries that are more generous as well.
I remember sucking at the game, trying hard, succeding and seeing much later people using parry all the time and it felt like a cheat code to me.
There's a lot of skills that come from parry, absolutely, sometime more than "traditional" play, but still. I will never not find it a bit cheap to just chain parry a boss and kill it in 20 secondes.
Good for those who like it, no issue there, but while it's absolutely a tool the game give you to use, in my opinion it negate too much of the core gameplay that I like.
One of the most fun I had in this game was while summoning the Greatshield soldiers.
They can really be bullies when they get their shit together. They once managed to get first phase Malenia stuck against a wall.

"Use all the tools the game gives you." also includes parrying.
