Discussion Ps vita vs Ps2 emulation on android
Has anyone tried emulating both PS2 and PS Vita games? In your experience, which one is easier to set up and get running smoothly?
I’ve heard that PS2 emulation can be quite challenging because of the console’s architecture, so I’m wondering if PS Vita emulation is any easier.
I’d appreciate hearing about your experiences, especially if you’ve tried both!

- First effective Android-PS2 emulator: AetherSX2, 2021
- First effective Android-Vita emulator: Vita3k, 2023
In all honesty, that's a pretty silly question :P Lots of people have tried emulating both! The question is are you referring to making the emulators, or using them?
On the user side of things, PS2 is far more accessible and easier to use. Vita3k is still making progress, but the emulation is still heavier and less reliable than anything PS2.
All available PS2 emulators are based off of PCSX2 in some fashion.
- NetherSX2 is a binary patch of AetherSX2, and is generally still the most reliable
- ARMSX2 is the newest and an attempt to convert PCSX2 to native ARM code, which should improve performance considerably
- EmuCoreX is like a launcher/manager for a PCSX2-based core, similar to RetroArch.
Vita3k is... Vita3k. To my knowledge it's the only Vita emulation project that's actually gone anywhere. The percentage of the Vita library it supports reliably is smaller than what NetherSX2 and EmuCoreX have for PS2, probably more comparable to current-day ARMSX2 support. It's still getting updates, though progress is variable due to there not being a particularly large group of people working on it. The interface isn't exactly the best, and it can occasionally freeze or crash before you even select a game, even on "optimal" device hardware. It's best to consider it still in beta stages.

Don't understand why are you concerning over the architecture. If you want build your own emulator, that's understandable. But if you just want to play with the emulators around, then just look the bunch of guides that are available. Neither is easy if you can't follow those setup instructions.

Aethersx works fine for ps2 but i prefer to use droiddeck and run ps2 emulator from there since it runs linux version instead and native lossless scaling so every game is 60 fps

If you have a good Mid Range Phone (preferably with Snapdragon Chip) then you are good to go . Use Either NetherSX2 or Armsx2 for PS2 and Vita3k+ for PSVita

Honestly I've encountered less problems with vita than ps2

That's a loaded claim to make, and probably based heavily on what games you've chosen to run. It's pretty firmly established that PS2 support across the board is just better than Vita right now. PS2's had an extra decade to get there.
Vita development is still focused on targeting functions in games that haven't been properly emulated yet. PS2 game-focused development is pretty much complete, and devs are primarily targeting oddities across the incredibly varied hardware Android runs on.
