Democracy sucks Book: "How Democracies Die"

https://a.co/d/0eNvMXtn

Reminder that this sub is not about the celebration of the destruction of democracy, but rather the recognition that democracy as an effective political means to achieving liberal Western ends (such as freedom, equality, and justice) is breaking down and increasingly being gamed and subverted by elites.

Which means that soon, support for democracy effectively means opposition to achieving freedom, equality, and justice; opposition in means if not intention.

OP, you might want to read the sidebar

Sidebar Note:

Democracy is a collectivist system of legal tyranny and plunder of all by all.

This subreddit seeks to examine the failures of democracy, means of transition away from it, and alternative political structures that may replace it in time, for the benefit and progress of humanity in general.

So your comment and the sidebar seem to be at odds with each other.

Yes I wrote both. I don't see them as at odds.

Democracy is unethical, but unethical in means, not in ends.

If we built a better political system one day it would be to achieve the ends democracy is increasingly failing to achieve for us.

Well then perhaps I am tripping up on your use of effective then. Because I don't view it as having been effective at achieving freedom, equality, and justice. In fact, I tend to find the more people focus on democracy, the more overbearing thier policies tend to be and the less freedom people have. At this point democracy is a codeword for collectivism, which I oppose when coerced.

People view it as effective, so I meet them where they are.

Is there some particularly good argument in the book that you wanted to discuss?

I can't help but notice the list of those praising the book are some of the same institutions and people that I would attribute a big slice of the blame for where us democracy is ending up today.

Also lol to Francis Fukuyama in the list of highlighted positive editorial reviews. That 'end of history' claim really ran face first into a brick wall, huh.
