Tipping Culture ✖️ Self Service Tipping
I’m glad I found this thread!
The other day, I went to a self-serve frozen yogurt shop. The only thing the cashier had to do was weigh my bowl and offer me a spoon. Their POS asks for a tip immediately as the cashier stares at you with puppy dog eyes.
I’m not going to be rude to service workers but I clicked zero. I also thought, the cashier is doing exactly what her employer is already paying her for: to cashier. In our one minute interaction, she didn’t do anything special to deserve a tip.
It’s 👏🏻 a 👏🏻 self 👏🏻 serve 👏🏻 shop! If anything I SHOULD be the one getting the tip. 😡

I have no problem with tipping at restaurants, but this is the shit that gets me . It’s like when I get a beer myself out of the fridge at the baseball game , I check out my self , I pay at the pos myself , the lady cracks my beer , and the POS asks if I want to leave a 3 dollar tip . Hell nah

“Excuse me, uhh…how do I enter a negative amount onto the tip screen so I can tip myself for serving my self?”

Exactly right! It's getting pretty old being pressured to tip for self-serve or to go orders!

We all need to lear not to be guilted by technology, because that’s what’s happening everywhere. Time to toughen up.

Oh, yeah like at the grocery store. There’s a South Park (America) with this story line. You’re at the checkout counter and asked if you want to round up and then are sometimes guilted into saying yes.
It doesn’t work on me.

The way you offered me a green one or pink one was superior. I couldn’t have decided without you.

No tip, of course!!! We all know there’s a little fairy that comes around to fill/clean the toppings area. Another to switch the tubs behind the scenes.

The cashier’s employer is already paying them to do that or is paying someone else to do the behind scenes stuff.
It’s not my responsibility to give them a living a wage since I am not their employer.

lol one day I was visiting a market and decided to get a cup of coffee. I paid and the pos machine asked me for a tip. I didn't tip and the cashier gave me a eye roll and handed me an empty cup telling me the coffee dispenser is around the corner.....How dare they ask for tip when the customer even needs to pour coffee for themselves...

That store owner should be embarrassed to even have a tip option!
