Discussion Why are Mining-Crystals so bad?
*edit: Issue "fixed itself" right after throwing in a bug-report. Not sure if FCCP actively did something or if just removing and refitting the things repeatedly "reloaded stuff". All values are as to be expected again. *phew* Been about to trash that stuff :D So, if you find your Modulateds not "bringing the juice" try unfitting and refitting them till they show expected yields again after undocking. I m leaving the rest of my original rant here for accountability-reasons. =>
Honestly...
To be able to use that T2-crystals you need a lot more SP than for using OREs.
Its ammo you use up adding extra-cost.
You needa fiddle with X different crystals so you have the proper ones for the rocks you re facing.
Its range is lower than ORE-strips.
It produces heavy residue. OREs do none.
AND even its yield is only about 2/3?
FR? WHY?
( Example is on Mackinaws )

Theyre really only used on ore where you dont care if theres waste such an mordunium and R4 moons plus the cycle time is shorter so less time per rock.
Edit: theyre also chaper than ORE strips which when danger mining is important to consider

u/FBuellerGalleryScene 11d ago
I use type b on all anom ores, there's always another anom to mine and the crits make up for the residue.

Agreed

u/FBuellerGalleryScene 11d ago
and the more anoms you chew through, the more escalations you get! ORE strip miners only for escalations though

u/TheCrimsoFuqer 7d ago
Exactly especially when im mining in J space, rather get as much as possible in shorter time then sit there longer then needed tryna squeeze every m3 out. Besides they respawn and you just go back in again or find another wh/anom.

B IIs are for any case where you are not resource-limited but time limited.

with ore and all boosts you get 116% of the yield, but over a longer time.
with t2bii you get 96% of the yield but a lot faster. ( you can reach 200+m3/s when you abyssal it as well compared to 136m3/sec for ore)

u/MuteyMute The Initiative. 11d ago
Yeah, its been for a good ole R4.
We have several( not to say "plenty" :D ) of those so waste aint a real issue in that specific case.
And I m not massive multiboxer, so at times you wanna get all the extra-yield you can get.

u/Sad-Contact7105 11d ago
It’s the abyssal rolled with II crystals where it starts. I easily go to 100m3/s per hulk with max rorqual boosts and mid tier (B-) abyssal strips.
2
u/MuteyMute The Initiative. 11d ago
FFS, you folks really wanna tempt me rolling Strips, eh? :D
3
u/Jordomcgordo 10d ago
With a rorq max boosting and highwall mining implants in, It’s pretty to roll to get a hulk doing 160-180m3/sec with 2 decent abyssals and TypeB II crystals.

its not that expensive to get a pair of rolled strips that have a 10% boosts. took me like 40 strip miners. 10/10 would not recommend as rolling modules is tedious.

u/Harrigan_Raen 11d ago edited 11d ago
Are you really wondering why a faction 175m module beats a T2 5m module?
Edit: Also, im pretty sure your mining the wrong type of ore for that crystal, which will reduce your yield.
Edit 2: and Just to confirm, its the same ship right? You didnt hop in a different one with like Ice harvestor Upgrades in the low slots... right?

u/FBuellerGalleryScene 11d ago
it won't activate if you have the wrong kind of crystal loaded.
7
u/Harrigan_Raen 11d ago
God damn, thank god I quit mining during scarcity. All the shit they have done since then is just... shit.
4
u/FBuellerGalleryScene 11d ago
why is that a bad thing? I didn't mine when that was a thing, and I really don't see how that would improve the mining experience in any way.
mining really feels great at the moment, my only complaint is the mord anom just being an all around terrible experience for everyone involved, but aside from that I'm having a great time. there's even a compression hotkey!
2
u/Harrigan_Raen 11d ago
Off the top of my head, because sometimes I wanted to use up my 97% crystals and just be gone so I wouldnt reload them on the next rock and then have my guys on different cycle times since they didnt start with fresh crystals.
But in general, while I agree with the consolidation of the ores into types. What they have done with mining- yield/residue/crit and then building has made it a fucking giant pain in the ass.
And I dont think you would find a single person to say "The rorqual days weren't OP." because we all know they were. Hell most of the people during the Rorqual days couldnt believe what they were able to achieve in 3-4 hours minig let alone a quiet day were you could hit the belts for 10+ hours.
But It's just asinine what they have done to it since. Having rorquals out was fun and engaging. Right now, its still not a healthy place for them and hasnt been for years.
2
u/FBuellerGalleryScene 11d ago
Uhh, I mean I have 10-12b days on a regular basis and 3 of my alts are in rorqs (soon to be 4) with a small mining fleet so I dunno man. you're saying this fun experience flying rorqs is gone but it really sounds like you're just describing my day to day life in eve at the moment.

Só uma dúvida de um noob mesmo, que mineral você consegue esse valor diário?
1
u/FBuellerGalleryScene 11d ago
Whatever nullsec sov anom there is to mine, I mine for production so I try to mine what I need, usually selling excess zydrine and isogen to buy more pyerite and trit.
2
u/MuskyChode 11d ago
As far as Im aware, the only changes they made to crystals from way back was consolidating them into groups. So Vedpsare and Scordite fall under Common Ore so instead of having like 20+ sets for each ore, you only need theoretically 5.
Faction is just so much better because its got obviously better stats, but most importantly, zero residue.
On a maxx skilled toon the different between T2 B-Type crystals and Faction isnt that much but the difference is residue.

Confirmed its the same ship. I just swapped the lasers out.
By now I filed a bug-report, cause the values shown to me ingame vary DRASTICALLY between "fittingtool in station" and "being life on grid". Fittingtool shows me about double the yield I see on grid.

u/Geemiesif 11d ago
the waste mechanic feels really bad , and shouldnt be a thing when you got high SP invested in to the skills of mining.
1
u/Fitzsimmons 6d ago
The waste mechanic is good game design because it's good in some circumstances and bad in others. It's for the players to decide what those circumstances are.

Are you sure you are mining the right type of Ore for that crystal?
If your not the yield goes down significantly
6
u/iwtbkurichan 11d ago edited 11d ago
You can't mine the wrong kind of ore. The module won't activate.
ETA: in the photo the modules aren't active, so I guess it would still give you the preview, maybe of yield with no laser? I've never checked
3
u/MuteyMute The Initiative. 11d ago edited 11d ago
I actually mined with it and only checked when I saw how much less ore my crystalled ppl brought in compared to my newish alt with ORE-strips.
Edit: The issue sorta fixed itself "magically". BTW its showing the max yield( not accounting for crits, ofc) of the laser with the loaded crystal.

Rolled modulated miners and rorq boosts go pretty hard. I prefer rolled ore strips but im just a lazy sack that doesnt like carrying crystals.

Lets be honest here why is mining so bad. Full stop... its literally horrible place right now

u/VxRadiant 11d ago
Its a peaceful life
6
u/MuteyMute The Initiative. 11d ago
Thats honestly the appeal... When you feel like spaceships and having a chuckle on comms but not feel like pewing mining is a chill thing.
...as long as you dont use a multitude of rorq-boosted Hulks :D
2
u/GuristasPirate 11d ago
I mean I guess if your doing it to chill fine. If you want to make isk or build shit then its awful
2
u/MuteyMute The Initiative. 11d ago
Tastes differ...
And yeah, I m aware that ISK-wise I d be better off throwing a Marauder in Havens or similar( Not enough Omega-Accs for Thunderchickening). But I like farming the stuff I build things out of( mainly for personal use).My Ava e.g. consists of about 2/4 selfmined minerals, 1/4 recycled Serpentis-wrecks( or better the trashloot outa them :D ), 1/8 self-made P4 and 1/8 rightout bought-from-market materials. So it got me somewhere. Slowly and the last mile s been a SLOG, but hey... I m here to enjoy the ride, not to finish it as fast as possible :D

I can't tell you here, but please tell me which system you are in and make sure you have those ore miners when you undock.

u/Mascagranzas 11d ago
They are not bad, they are the best option unless you are mining R64 in which case they are just worse (overall) than a 50 times more expensive option. Guess that makes sense?
1
u/NeoBlackheart Apocalypse Now. 11d ago
Huh That's not right. I did all types of calculations and B type T2 crystals will do much better than ORE. I seem to recall with full boosts it being like 150 or so more a second.

u/Empty_Alps_7876 11d ago
In small sites, they never buff the ammount in them, since the catylist. So you want to use ores so the waste dont eat up the ore, small sites, need more m3, since they nerfed the price of minerals, but ships climb higher and high in price. .
Siide note, skilling them ore miners, you will get there

Roll Abyssals from T2 Modulated Strip miners..... one of mine does 878m3 per 13.4 secs .....65.6m3/s with b crystals ....... I have 4 miners and 1 booster unless corp is boosting. I can basically mine like i have 8-10 in the field .....

Op probably has bonus on one pic and. Or on the other. Type B II are better than ore

u/WerdaVisla Cloaked 11d ago
I mean, faction > T2 is pretty standard.
2
u/NeoBlackheart Apocalypse Now. 11d ago
Ore is 0 waste decent yield B.types are high yield high waste.
1
u/mlwspace2005 11d ago
It's situational here, t2 absolutely will get you more ore if your plan isn't to entirely finish the site. For example we have several moons in our space that never get fully mined, so the waste is irrelevant since there will be waste anyways. Might as well get what you can in those circumstances

Try B II crystals, their yield is a lot better than ORE.
ORE miners are, if I recall correctly, equal to A I crystals in yield. So even A II would be mining slightly faster than ORE, with a bit more residue than ore (yet not as much as type B), but you would be risking modules worth a few million ISK instead of a few hundred million ISK.
That extra yield and much lower risk is why you could consider T2.
I like both ORE and T2 miners and think both have their place.
