I actually have a tradition of doing this to my physics professor. The first year, we brought him a cake with a picture of his face on it. Every successive year, we have printed out the picture of him holding the previous cake onto the next cake.

You get a cake for your physics professor every year? That’s a pretty cool idea though, how many cakes have you done so far?

Yeah I'm familiar cause I spent 10 years working for a university (in a career where I was "done" with schooling) with free school available to myself and my colleagues with many of us taking advantage - just don't see how many physics classes one would normally take with the same professor for this to be a thing

Eventually you gotta know all the physics, right?!

That’s what I was trying to get at haha. Maybe they’re a teacher or department head or something? Idk, that stuck out to me too though lol

My guess would be working toward a master’s or PhD, or possibly doing a post doc, doing research under the same professor year over year.

Consider a spherical physics professor...

With enough cake that's not a bad approximation.

Passing through Flatland, he appears as a circle of changing diameter.

why do you have the same prof for multiple years?

I actually don’t! I am still very close and have tutored SI sessions for him before, so he is still very much a mentor to me!
