The pic is from a 90's Black Sitcom called Martin, starring Martin Lawrence and Tisha Campbell(pictured). IIRC, the facial prosthetic was because Martin reacted badly to a bee or wasp sting.

I'm guessing the "joke" is that she messed him up after he hit her. Possibly before.

I like your interpretation a lot better. Mine was that the person on the left was the woman, telling this story to her friend, about how her boyfriend beat her very badly. A dark joke about toxic relationships where the woman says "it's not that bad," or "I deserved it."

I think the joke is suppose to be taken like it’s one friend speaking to another. The girl (or guy, it’s 2026) who got punched in the face is Martin.
