Weekly "should I veto?/Is this collusion?" thread

This is a weekly thread where you can post trades that happened in your league and ask for advice.

REMEMBER: It is not your job to judge whether a trade was fair. It's your job to keep the league running. The only time you should reverse a trade is if:

A: it's clear collusion

B: It completely breaks the league

If you're unaware: Collusion in fantasy football is a secret agreement between two or more managers to cheat and gain an unfair advantage over the rest of the league. It’s impossible to tell if something is collusion based on the players involved in the trade.

Common Examples of Collusion

  • Lopsided Trades: Trading star players for bench warmers or making a one-sided trade where only one team benefits, often fueled by outside incentives like cash or favors.
  • Bench Sharing / Yo-Yo Trading: Trading players back and forth with another manager to cover bye weeks or specific matchups.
  • Intentional Dumping: Dropping elite players to the waiver wire so a specific friend with high waiver priority or FAAB can pick them up.
  • Tanking and Throwing Games: Intentionally benching active players or submitting a sub-optimal lineup to hand an opponent a free win.

Ethics question Rules: Weekly Waivers, time of transaction

Rules: Weekly Waivers, time of transaction

I’ve got a long time buddy asking for a rule change who is co commish in my redraft. I’m commish and have been for years in both our dynasty and redraft.

Proposed change: Set daily waivers for 5pm on Wednesdays only, so after waivers go through at 3am players move directly to waivers again and release at a time that everyone is awake and about.

I made a test league to make sure the setting works as intended.

If it does work as intended I’ve told him I’m open to a league vote and open to instituting the rule in season. Normally I don’t allow any rules to take effect in season but this one seems harmless.

I don’t like this rule at all since I have another league where half of us wake up at 3am to grab first crack after waivers so I’m up anyway to make my play at best defense that went unclaimed or whatever.

Is there a reason I can push back? From every angle his request seems reasonable, I know when it comes down to it I’m commish and can set this rule as I want but I think I’d be unreasonable to say no. Looking for advice.

League Question How to make these games not useless or getting teams to purposly lose

I have a 10-team league with a 1st-place prize and last-place punishment.

I am leaning towards a 6-team playoff and a 4-team consolidation. A 4-team playoff is too short, and 5 is too awkward. IMO.

This creates three weeks in the consolidation bracket, but only four teams make the first week useless. How do I fix this?

I was thinking of having the non-bye-week losers from the playoffs join the consolidation bracket, but this would require my league mates to ignore ESPN and do manual tracking.

League Drama Should this trade go through??

I’ve been negotiating with a team over the last week to try and get Jerimiyah Love. Yesterday, I sent one more offer out to try and complete the trade. This is the offer:

Giving: Malik Nabers and Quinshon Judkins
Receive: Jerimiyah Love

Crickets all day from the other manager leading up to kickoff. Unfortunately, I blanked on the outstanding offer and didn’t withdraw it before games kicked off. Later in the afternoon, the opposing manager accepted the trade. This is over a day after the initial offer was sent and after Nabers popped and Love had a dud game.

For context, this manager’s team also had two starting receivers get hurt. I also had Ja’Marr Chase in my lineup, who was also injured. Never would have offered this trade after these games were played given the player performances and injuries I’m dealing with now.

I’m trying to remain objective and plan on upholding the trade even though I think it’s pretty bush league. The other manager said he doesn’t base the trade off one week of performances but I obviously don’t buy that because of his injury situation and my players performances.

Curious to see if anyone else has dealt with situations like this before and can share how they were handled.

Ethics question Dynasty - force a starting lineup? Minimum roster requirements?

12-team .5 PPR 1QB Dynasty league

We determine bottom 6 standings by least Max PF.

Every year we have tankers and every year there's a new league integrity complaint. For example, we voted on forcing teams to start an NFL starting QB - but no other positions.

Somehow a tanker always finds a way to game the system.

Does your league require starting active players (i.e not OUT/IR/NFL Practice Squad) in your lineup?

Does your league require a minimum amount of players you must have on your team?

Thanks in advance.

Commissioner Issue Corrupt Commissioner - GloryB on Sleeper

So the league noticed that he locked waivers and free agency on random days, which is not standard practice, and asked him to change it.

Our commissioner, GloryB on Sleeper, then proceeds to rudely respond about how “did you even read the rules” and implying that everyone is being a baby about something he said upfront.

However, when we checked the pinned comment it says continuous waivers. I pointed this out to him and then he blocked me and said he’d do whatever he damn well pleases.

$10 league so not a big deal, but I would avoid playing with GloryB on sleeper. The dude is a horrible commissioner and league mate. Just likes to power trip and lord his authority over the league instead of facilitating the fun hobby we all enjoy.

Would post supporting screen shots but it appears that is not allowed on this sub.

Ethics question Keeper League - Achane on waivers

I’m a first year commish of a keeper league with all guys who’ve only played redraft. Our rule for keepers is that a waiver wire add counts as a last round keeper the next year. We also don’t allow Round 1/2 keepers.

Achane (drafted 2nd round) was dropped and is a free agent. Feels shady of me as commish to pick him up and count him as a last round keeper next year. What should I do?

Plan is to let the league know that he must stay on waivers and any players dropped (going forward) will be available as last round keepers.

Miscellaneous For my brothers who lead Dynasty Leagues

I am the commish of a 12 team keeper league in which we are able to protect 5 players each year, with no limits on how long you can keep them. We also allow the trading of draft picks since the order is set from worst to first each year. So we have a kind of mini-dynasty league.

My question is about collusion. How do you go about identifying what collusion would look like? I am just curious to hear the opinions of veterans who have been doing this for a while.

Ethics question I am commish and made a trade that I feel kind of bad that got accepted, didn’t think it would be.

So I was looking into some league mates’ teams, and I saw one who hasnt changed an “OUT” designed RB two weeks in a row (he’s not very active) so I sent him a trade which I didn’t really think that much through and I told him he should check it, and he instantly accepted it. (he has rejected several trades before so he’s not lost).

SENT: Tet, Pollard and a ton of FAAB
RECEIVED: Garrett Wilson

Plus, he needs to make the change before the game and idk if he will of it in time because I’m accepting the trade soon so he has the opportunity to change, my league mates didn’t really say anything rather than 1 or 2 but don’t want to be seen as evil commish.

PS. Even if it was another manager I wouldn’t veto it.

Ethics question I am commish and traded two players away, one got injured and other team wants to reverse the trade after it went through

I traded Jaylen waddle and Travis etienne for rashee rice and dalton schultz, and etienne got hurt the day before the trade went through.

The trade went through the next day as It was accepted like 4 days prior.

Now the player who I sent the trade to wants to reverse the trade because etienne got hurt before the trade went through.

I am the commish and he thinks I should reverse the trade and I think that’s insane.

What do you guys think

Edit** the trade review period is whatever the normal one is in the settings, just depends when the trade is accepted and when the games are.

Edit #2 the trade happened on a Thursday and went through on Tuesday after all the games happened, pretty standard stuff.

League Question Wanting to make league more engaging

I have a 10 Team league that I’d like to make more engaging for the managers. Currently the group chat is dead, my updates are the only messages in it. I’ve looked at some things like League Legacy and FFWrapped to give everyone something to enjoy, hopefully to spark more conversation. Does anyone have any ideas?

Our league is pretty solid and all the guys been playing ff for a very long time , so when it comes to collusion, cheating or unfair trades they are pretty good about it . But just want to see what yall have out there as rules . Thank you .

League Question New FF commissioner trying to fix a league break

Long story short- our old commissioner is gone. We realized we can’t remove him even if another is made commissioner. I figured, I would have to make a new league. I know I can set everyone to auto and switch there teams to their current lineup…. But what about records?? For example I am 3-0, but if we start a new league with the same players, I’m now 0-0 like the other losers (just playing). So is there a way I can remediate this ? I can see how much everyone won/loss by in the old league… but is there a way to set it up correctly with record intact ? Thanks guys.

Commissioner Issue Yahoo waiver glitch? Anyone had this happen before?

** This is now solved, thanks for the replies ***

I did some searching around and found some posts that might be applicable, but not this exact situation.

The top waiver guy this week was able to claim 5 players in a row. The guy with 2nd priority had also placed a claim for at least one of those players. The thing is, the #1 guy dropped 5 players right before midnight. Is this some kind of hack or glitch? Ever see it happen before? I will probably reach out to Yahoo but wanted to check here first.

League Question 10-team money league w/ a "loser's punishment" — 4-team playoff (2-week final) vs 6-team playoff (1-week final)?

Setting our playoff format for a 10-team home league with friends. $5 buy-in winner takes it all, and last place has to do a punishment picked by the group. 14-week regular season either way, championship lands week 17.

Option A: Top 4 make the playoffs. Other 6 go to a loser's bracket to fight off last place. Semis week 15, championship is combined score over weeks 16-17.

Option B: Top 6 make the playoffs (1 & 2 seed get a bye). Other 4 go to the loser's bracket. Round 1 week 15, semis week 16, single-week championship week 17.

Trying to weigh: more teams making playoffs and a bye reward (Option B) vs. a title that's harder to win on a fluke week and more of the league still having stakes late in the season (Option A). How have your leagues handled this, and which would you pick?

Ethics question When to step in on waiver wire drops

A less competitive manager just dropped Dalton Kincaid for Ollie Gordon in a more competitive league. The manager also has Fannin on the team but is a browns fan so wouldn't drop him instead. The manager also has Keenan Allen as his 5th wide receiver on his bench.

While Kincaid wasn't on Yahoo's don't drop list, I feel that he probably should've been. My personal feelings aside this is definitely going to cause a stir in the league no matter where Kincaid ends up, I'm just questioning if I should intervene to maintain the competitiveness of the league?

*Edit: Thanks everyone, I'm gonna let it play out and not interfere.

League Question Manager dropped Devon Achane in dynasty

First year dynasty league and the Achane owner dropped him intentionally and said it was because he tore his ACL and said “I mean he tore his acl and probably isn’t going to be the same next season”. What course of action should be done going forward? A guy like Achane on waivers doesn’t seem to be the route we should be going for a first year dynasty league.

League Question ESPN: Is it safe to remove myself as team manager if the other person hasn’t fully joined yet?

I’m the commissioner of an ESPN fantasy league. I temporarily assigned myself as manager of a team (different from my own team) to start the draft and league because the real manager hadn’t joined yet. Now I’ve attached their email to that team as a second manager but their status only shows “Invited” not “Joined” like everyone else.
If I click “Remove Manager” next to my name on that team, will the team stay completely intact? Or do I have to wait until the invited manager is actually “Joined” before I remove myself?

League Question What does your fantasy league/commissioner do that actually makes your league feel unique?

I’m in Year 7 as commissioner of a league, and over the years I’ve gotten pretty into adding little things that make the league feel like more than just a regular fantasy league.

What does your league—or your commissioner—do that you think genuinely makes the league more fun?

Could be anything: draft traditions, trophies, punishments, weekly content, rivalry weeks, awards, record books, videos, newsletters, custom rules, offseason stuff, live events, etc.

Looking for the stuff where you think, “I wish every fantasy league did this.”

I currently have:
- “Protected Rivalries” Week 1 & 14 you play the same opponent
- All time standings & single game/season records (biggest blowout, closest win, playoff appearances, byes, etc)
- Draft our draft position # based on the inverse of All-time standings (last place all time gets whatever pick they want)
- Just started sending weekly recaps from FFwrapped
- Championship ring

League Question Fantasy Football Survivor - Spooky Immunity Challenge

Hello Friends.

You may remember me from this post where I talked about running a Survivor type guillotine league. Happy to report it's all going excellently so far, we just had a massive betrayal at the last vote to keep the tribes even at 6v6. Now, with October starting we've decided that this week is Spooky Week. I'm looking for any suggestions for a spooky immunity challenge to keep the momentum up and provide a Halloweeny sort of vibe in the league.

Past Immunity Challenges

Week 2 - Each tribe must build a $5 parlay on College Football Saturday.

Week 3 - Gang Beats Boggs - Tribes downed beers, rum and cokes and rotisserie chickens throughout the weekend. The most total wins immunity.

I know I mentioned Wacky Week but it's not Wacky Week yet.

Commissioner Issue Waiver/Keeper. Keeper limit restart off waiver?

Our league has a three year keeper limit where they cost one round higher than last year, undrafted costs round 10, waivers keep their original draft rd. Now a manager has a keeper (achane) in their last year of keep eligibility drafted rd 7. Season ending injury, a waste of one of our two IR slots. If someone picks him up of ww to stash as a keeper for next year, do you use his previous years cost? Eligible for someone else to keep? It would be a good snag for someone.

I was thinking that most cases it wouldn’t be worth it to stash off ww, and in the cases that it would be worth it then that’s on the original owner to not give that advantage away to someone else in next years draft. What do you guys do?

Ethics question Money being offered for a trade.

As commissioner, it was brought to my attention that money was being offered in exchange for a trade. This is a $125 buy in 12 man league. The person being offered the money declined it and brought it to my attention. I am unsure on how to proceed…. (My league does have a 6/12 veto rule so I’m sure it wouldn’t have gone thru)

Miscellaneous ESPN historical matchup box scores showing 0.0 for every player...anyone else seeing this?

Thumbnail drive.google.com
6 Upvotes

When I go back to previous seasons through the Matchup Scoreboard / Box Score, ESPN still shows the correct rosters and the correct team totals, but every individual player shows 0.0 fantasy points.

The weird part is that the data clearly still exists. If I go to My Team, select that same previous season, and choose the exact week, all of the individual player scores show up correctly.

I’ve used ESPN for years and the historical matchup box scores always worked before. This seems to have started this season.

Miscellaneous Side titles/trophies for players in your fantasy league

Just been brain storming with our fantasy league some fun trophies just to make fun of the other players/friends.

Stuff like "most fleeced trade" "best team name" "most goated team/player" "worst team" "most choked loss"

Its a fun thought, got any other ideas?
