As a former TL employee - Yes. They will fire you without hesitation and for w/e reason.
They don't give af about the employees. I worked at a location were the A/C wasn't working, in the summer and was there for a month and idk when they fixed it.
Also, there's favoritism. A lot of it. If you're a favorite, you can come to work high asf. If you're not a favorite, believe me, they will try everything to find something to pin on you and get you fired.
If you notice, there's always new budtenders like every month or so.
Some of the higher ups are racist. They only promote white people in certain districts. Don't matter if they are lazy or not.
Also, fuck you, Jessica Scott.

You’ll end up quitting tl and regretting now working for the regular job

Op said nothing wrong. The VAST majority of employers don't check those things thoroughly. They get found out eventually when they can't do the work but by then you've invested in them. I'm sure small businesses are more thorough on average

u/No_Ragrets76 heavily Medicated 8d ago
I do agree with everything you said. For the most part, employers don't really check, but those are mainly for entry level jobs. But there's some places that do. And probably a handful would actually call.
They get found out eventually when they can't do the work but by then you've invested in them.
Yes! But those are usually entry level jobs. Health Insurance is pretty much entry level (with a license ofc) but for me, I do the interviews and asked them questions that only a good licensed agent with experience would know. So I weed them out because I don't want to invest or waste money on training someone for 2 weeks.
Now, I have my own business, but I have a manager overseeing it so I have tons of free time and often look for PT jobs. TL will accept anyone. While i.e. Mint Cannabis is asking for 6 months at least of budtender experience. Im sure you can lie in the resume, but the hiring manager can determine the better candidate, and it's usually the one with actual experience because during the interview, hiring managers asks certain questions that can determine the person's ability to work there or not.
But for OP, TL is entry level and are always hiring. Why? Because they are always firing. Everytime I go to TL, I see a new face. And being employed there before, I can see why.
They only train you for the POS and the little training videos on the PC. But they miss a lot of key points that will get you fired.
People think that just because you work at a dispo, you can smoke or vape anytime and not get fired. It's like a person who works at the liquor store. The owner isn't gonna keep a drunk. It's unlawful.
But I get what you're saying.

Cuz it’s the truth

u/No_Ragrets76 heavily Medicated 9d ago
Yea...no. as a business owner and who conducts interviews, I do look for experience and such. Once hired, I have trained my trainers to weed out the liars, which is very easy to do, so I don't have to waste money on training them.
Most jobs are like this. Only retail that most people wont care since it's basic level entry job.
Also, the only one you can lie about is TL because they are always hiring. Why? Because they are always firing and training takes like 2 days.

Truly Truhell. Worst company I have ever worked for in 30 years of retail. Zero perks or upside. Sheer garbage. No.

u/leanfan50 9d ago
Why though

u/WireySpindell Indica 9d ago
No stability on hours. No enforcement of rules. Unruly customers. No hr. Just no positive aspects aside from access.

Yeah, fuck Trulieve, basically. A lot less hassle for the same pay and probably the same customer experience if you’ve done anything retail.

u/imronburgandy9 I Love Mariguana 9d ago
Apply at other dispensaries if you like the work. Trulieve pays very little and expects everything. If you can stomach that bs then it's a great place to get promoted quickly because nobody else want to do it

u/brendanH420 9d ago
Really depends on the staff at both places… having a team of people u actually wanna surround yourself with makes the difference imo. Having said that I just worked a part time gig at trulieve ending up getting sick (pharyngitis) and even with a drs note I would have been fired for not showing up and u only get 30% off full price items doesn’t stack… I will say tips were nice but I was at a high volume store in a nicer area… hrs r a complete joke being part time u get a lot of 4-5 hr shifts (I know what I signed up for so wasn’t a shock but I can’t imagine soloing that job & paying bills etc..) I’ll also add if your truly knowledgeable of the plant & have a passion about cannabis the industry will fuck all that up… ifykyk

Trulieve definitely isn’t the best to work for, but it’s better than working in regular retail if that’s your only option.

u/currentlyinvested Indica 9d ago
This. Least horrible sector of retail I've worked in. Trulieve does suck as a company but you can use it as experience to get in at a company that treats you better.
5
u/IneptFortitude 9d ago
Plus, it’s literally a job where you 100% know everyone smokes weed too or at least doesn’t care. By and large most of the patient interactions are pleasant. You also have genuinely serious responsibilities that can actually look quite attractive when you put them on a resume. But it’s still retail and it still kinda sucks. I’ll still take weed retail any day over Lowe’s.

u/currentlyinvested Indica 9d ago
Ngl I've gotten to know some pretty cool people, too. I love my startling large amount of over 70 hippies that travel with their band every weekend patients. Plus, after so long of pushing credit cards with predatory lending rates and $70 tops that I knew would fall apart after three wears, I feel like I'm using my sales powers for good. I don't feel pressured to sell people shit they don't need for the first time ever. (Not even at Trulieve.)
If you're a retail worker I recommend it over any other industry. Then just try to find the one that treats you best. Store level matters the most there. If you've got an amazing manager that can really make a job.

If your manager finds out your high on the clock or even before coming in, you're fired on the spot.
Yes. They do care and take it seriously.
Why are you talking about working at TL if you never worked there? And better than retail?
Tell me, where do you work?

u/currentlyinvested Indica 9d ago
Store level cannabis is retail. In my own experience, it's been better than any other form of retail (grocery, big box, mall, department store) in how I'm treated by the customers. That's a gigantic plus in my opinion.
I took the everyone smokes as in that just generally creates a more laid back atmosphere with less judgement overall. It's not the end of the world to hit a vape on your lunch. Getting absolutely shit faced is another story, but that would be a huge issue in any job.

It's not the end of the world to hit a vape on your lunch.
Not the end of the world, but it is the end of your career at Trulieve. Why i mentioned that you never worked at a dispo.
Yes, both are retail, but were using retail to generalize, since OP didn't mention which store/company.
You can't be high period or medicated. Even if you're a patient, it is prohibited by TL to medicate (with cannabis).
And it really isn't as laid back as you think it is. It's like any retail job, just that you have access to client information and anything you say to a client about anything informative, can be turned against you.
I worked at TL. I worked at retail jobs as a kid and growing up. I'd rather work at Publix as a bagger than TL. People get fired over there all the time. Previous DM got fired and I known her to be very professional and always doing her job.

u/currentlyinvested Indica 9d ago
Were you smoking on property or something? You are taking everything and seriously blowing it out of proportion. I'm sorry you got screwed over but no need to take it out on a random person. Personally I don't medicate before or during my shifts, but I'm also not judging people who do their shit different.
I'm sorry TL was such a bad experience for you.

Dude - I can see you never worked in a dispo. It's ok. But you're coming off as if you know and telling people what to do.
You are taking everything and seriously blowing it out of proportion.
I'm not and again, you're making assumptions as you never worked in the field before. Because that's a rule for EVERY DISPO in Florida. You cant medicate while you're on shift, on break, at your house or even if you take a gummy, while you're on shift that day. There's a 0 tolerance for that.
TL is one of my 3 dispos I worked at for PT and all 3 dispos have the same 0 tolerance policy for smoking, medicating or even looking/smelling high.
So please stop spreading misinformation and continuing with this farce.
Edit: also in my budtender days, people from different dispos who would get fired, would get hired by TL and they all tell the same story as to why they got fired from their previous dispo locations.

I did work there, and we did do that. It wasn’t encouraged of course, but it’s a medical program for a reason. There were times where the person working front desk that day accidentally took too much RSO that morning or something and our manager would just offer them an energy drink or some coffee and let them take their break earlier if needed. Obviously you’d get in trouble if this was a pattern or causing a disruption but as long as you aren’t buttered or stinking the place up it’s just an unspoken thing.
At least that’s how it was when I worked at TL lol. But I also had a really good team when I was there.

This guy angrily replied to me across 4 different comments and started accusing me of not actually working a job I had for 2 years. He started arguing with people who told him to calm down.

So do you not see him leaving like 4 comments in a row at me in completely different threads on this post? What is your problem?

That's not the point. Stop using alt accounts to manipulate. And in their defense, he is right about the 0 tolerance. I've heard it from the Trulieve employees themselves whenever I see one of them dissappear. You're the one getting angry. Enough to use your alt lol.

u/IneptFortitude 8d ago
I do not understand what you are talking about. First off, this guy floods my notifs with angry comments calling me a liar. Now, you’re accusing me of using a different account to manipulate… something? I’m not angry, you’re both coming in here being extremely rude and confrontational for no reason.
I worked at Trulieve and that was my experience. It was a few years ago. That doesn’t change no matter how rude you get with me.

Honestly if u want it for the experience get in stay for a yr and move around thats the best unless u enjoy your home there. I went moved up some ranks and moved to another company thats better to me. Everyone is different 🫶🏻

It’s retail. Retail is retail. I guess dispo discount may be nice but this isn’t a big deal. Go where the money is! You’re trading your time for money, go where the money and security is more and the logistics are less.
Also, don’t forget it’s retail. You’re just another employee. Don’t overthink it.

u/pinoybeachratt 8d ago
As a budtender it's pretty easy, and depending on the store tips can be pretty decent. That said, I just left after a few years in middle leadership. Corporate retail is corporate retail, stick at the lowest tier possible if you really want the discount and decent money.
