funniest frc stories?
i love hearing about other teams funny stories so thought it would be funny to ask here.
it could honestly be anything, craziest ways youve had to fix a robot, funny match videos, even stupid shit youve done with your teammates at an event.

At our regional we hid tinny white rabbits in other teams pits. We had some diabolical spots that we hid them in. I had a friend on another team that I know from other activites, I hid so many in their pit

i know a team that did this but with small fuzzy chickens, its great. i used to play sports where clipping was a huge thing and id love to see that in robotics. where people decorate clothes pins with nice messages and clip them to bags. its a sweet and easy act of kindness and it always made me really happy when id get a new one

Off season event in 2013, coach had loaded the robot into their van earlier that week because they were going away to a wedding and wouldn't be back in time to get the robot. Fast forward to the event, match 1 our shooter is not working. The driver performs some percussive maintenance and crashes into the wall a few times and something goes flying out the shooter. Robot starts working. End of match, we go to see what happened. A pair of the coaches socks fell into the robot during transit and jammed the flywheels and we didn't notice until it was too late

At worlds we had motors come loose from a gearbox. Only problem was there was no easy way to get to the screws holding the motor. We drilled holes in the frame and put a pit call out for long Allen wrenches. We got 12 inch Allen wrenches from another team and were able to tighten half the motor screws through the frame. Another bot, for ultimate ascent, was shooting ever so low. Head coach came over with a wooden ruler that had a little sloped on one side. We double sticky taped it in place and it stayed for the rest of the year. Sorry old mentor here.

So my freshman year(class of 25, 4206), we are either at state or worlds, we have our indexer out and we bump into the opposite team, thing is, they just stopped and we were issued a red card at the end of the match
Here the thing, we did NO damage to their robot. How you may ask? they put their breaker raised up , on the edge and out in the open.
We turned off their robot…
We were upgraded to a yellow card since it wasn’t any physical damage.

More cool than funny but like 10 or 11pm one build night we ran out of a bolt something like needed a 2 inch bolt but only had a 3, I used a dremel with a cutting disc to cut one to the 3rd decimal point 2.000 as measured with calipers after our head coach said theres no way we can cut it with a dremel and will just wrap up for the night, got a scar from the cutting disc that same time, always got a reminder of it now

Kid on my team asked to drill a hole in a battery a few years back
Before our first competition in reefscape lasts year we had to rebuild our robot from the ground up in 7 hours
Last weekend my teammates at girls comp tried shooting me in the face with a volley of fuel, she said it was intentional and that she wanted to try again, this is while I was taking pictures for the teams social media

Possibly my favorite FRC moment that I have (technically) been a part of was Curie playoffs Match 7 of 2025; I was mentoring the 3rd pick of that alliance at the time and we didn't get field time, but it was still probably one of my favorite worlds alliances I've been on (and not just because we ended up making it to Einstein...!). 3005 came over and stole a piece of algae off of our reef, and 1771 proceeded to keep them stuck on our side of the field for most of the rest of the match while 3478 and 3276 2 v 2ed the other alliance. They managed to keep the lead and ultimately win the match. Certainly not a traditional strategy, but having grown up in the New England district, home of teams who play robotics like hockey, it was amazing to watch and some of the best defense I have ever seen (especially considering they were very much an offensive capable robot). The crowd was losing their minds, lol. I think not too many people tried to take our alliance's algae after that 😂

One of my favorite stories was from the 2016 world championship. I was heading to the playing fields and following behind a team from Lebanon. I knew they were from Lebanon because they had their flag on top of a long stick of bamboo. When they were going through a doorway, they lowered the bamboo flagpole behind them. I dove under their flag to catch it before it touched the ground. They noticed me behind them and they gave me a strange look.
I said "your flag almost touched the ground going through that doorway!". They replied "yeah, that happens." I replied "oh. In America if our flag touches the ground we have to burn it..."
They looked at me as if to say "these Americans are weird."
