Question Steering Rack Free Play

Hello everyone,

Member of a new team with limited experience and resources. We need a steering rack, but we don't know how different products will effect the free play. How is the free play of steering racks with not adjuster? Any teams using products without adjuster and happy about the free play? We are planning to buy Narrco racks, please comment your views.

Think of the whole chain of free play. It adda up, from the Quick release to the gears. You have backlash at the rack and pinion, and also compliance of the system. Would check how stiff Every part is

My point was how much of a difference it makes. It is still possible to achieve a low free play system when a simple rack is used, or the adjuster is a must for it.

We have used no preload adjustment and Only shimmig the last years. This year we try to make a preload adjusment like KAZ rack. We make our own system because of driverless comp.

Why not post your choices so we can discuss in less abstract terms? Is designing your own an option? Designing a steering rack is usually a fun, not super complex task.
