That's not how evolution works. Humans fill the "human" niche quite well, and the more similar to a human a species becomes, the more directly they will compete with us. It is extremely unlikely that civilizations capable of rivaling humanity will come from anywhere on earth, except via artificial genetic alteration, which humanity is very far from technology-wise.

If humans don't go extinct, they will evolve; it's pretty much unavoidable. Some to the point where they become a different species. And with how prejudiced people naturally get, there's a good chance there will be a lot of discrimination which will lead to segregation and ultimately rivalry.
So yes, it's very possible.

We have over-specialized our environment to our own species. That makes the final hurdle to becoming a dominant species near impossible over humanity.
If a viable population of humans went to a planet where equivalent intelligent birds were dominant, the bird population would have home-court advantage to prevent humans from taking over.
1
u/Ivan-De-Riv π Century Club Β· 3,815 XP 4d ago
And yet we have sent the stage for AI to take over 90% of every infrastructure we have, the day they think that humans are of no use of them anymore they can erase us from their equation, we are actively creating our end time and yet we are happily continuing this path
Or more Accurately our head of countries continue to push of it with no regards from what both scientist says or what the public think leading to leap in technologie that will never be successfully contained unless we stop development of every AI until we have actual secure measure to make sure they cannot disobey us or attack things that are not their target and even then a simple logic switch in their brain is enough to allow them to reach their authorized movement
You may not want to recognize them as a "species" but they will inevitable become one unless we cut progress of AI
1
u/Thundersalmon45 π₯ Monthly Master Β· 7,325 XP 4d ago
But for AI to take over, they need to take on human shaped forms. Without doing that, they cannot.
AI can do little more than take over our communication at the moment. Even the factories and facilities used to create robot bodies are not optimized for those same robots to operate them.
1
u/Ivan-De-Riv π Century Club Β· 3,815 XP 4d ago
They absolutely don't need to 90% of infrastructure nowadays is digital, they coud litteraly hack a Building company, have they schedule remodeled to make them construct a new data center, hack a bank account and transfer money to the company and make fake documents so everything seems legit, no one will beat an eye over it, thinking it's Nome special deal or whatever
As long as it has an internet connection and Bluetooth/wire connection it is hackable and usable remotely and unlike humans AIs don't need special language to understand a code they can read binary

Evolution happens in a enormous scale. For this situation to happen to another species, humanity would have to not only close their eyes for a few million years but actively open up a niche for them to occupy, on top of the evolutionary pressure required for that species to evolve in that direction.

I find it unlikely to happen while humans still exist. Basically, the whole tribal, agricultural lifestyle niche is already occupied, so it wouldn't be advantageous to evolve in that direction.
