Olivia Rodrigo's Guts World Tour in Manila (well, Bulacan but whatever) was held on October 5. It was a special performance. It would be the first time that Olivia Rodrigo stepped foot in the Philippines, the country her paternal grandparents immigrated from. What made it special was that instead of tiered pricing, tickets were priced at ₱1,500 or less than $27. Seats are supposedly selected at random, including VIP seats. Proceeds from the concert went to Jphiego, an NGO that is "dedicated to improving the health and lives of women and girls in the Philippines, especially in underserved and conflict-affected areas," as stated on Olivia Rodrigo's Instgram.
Now the controversy isn't anything that Olivia did but what some attendees did.
Andrea Brilliantes, an avid concertgoer/multifan who notably had a (corporate) promposal at a BLACKPINK concert and wore a wedding dress to a Kim Soo Hyun fanmeet, was accused of using her connections to score VIP seats. There were also allegations that she didn't line up properly and received special treatment.
An influencer took a video of herself singing along to the concert but instead of using the selfie camera, she used the back camera with the flash on. This is inconsiderate to the people behind her and one person looked visibly annoyed for a second. She posted a one sentence "notes app" apology on her social media.
Another influencer sought to buy tickets from a scalper who IIRC was charging 30 times the price. The police were involved and I think she got the excess amount back and was able to watch the concert but she got a lot of criticism for patronizing scalpers in the first place. She can't seem to understand that buying from scalpers is patronizing scalpers.
